Blocked tear duct

DS1 has a blocked Lacrimal tear duct and now has to be seen by the Canberra Eye doctors for surgery or other treatment. Has anyone else had this happen to their kidlets? How traumatic was it for the kids. I just want him better and not look like he has conjunctivitus everytime he wakes up from a sleep.

they will probably put little plugs to open up the ducts. i have heard its not so bad. good luck. when you go to the specialist ask lots of questions. write them down as you think of them so you can take them in with you.

My ds had one on and off after he was born for a few months. It self resolved.

My DD1 had one when she was born.

The Dr we saw wanted to leave it until she was around 12 months to see if it resolved itself. With Briley it never did so surgery was the only option.

Briley was 13 months when she went in. The procedure itself wasn't painful as they are usually under a general.

The process of the general and waking up was a little different.

For me, it was horrible. They had to put a mask on her face for the gas and she was frightened and was crying and therefore upset me.

When she woke up, I could hear her before i saw her. She was quite upset.

My recommendation would be if you think you'll get upset when they have to go under, get you're partner to go in.

Also, tell them you absolutely want to be in recovery for when they wake up so that you are the first person they see when they come out of it.

Hopefully you won't need surgery though.

I had this when I was about 7 or 8. I don't remember anything happening to me, maybe just a few doctor visits (that I remember). Then it just went away
