Chicken pox - the second time :(

Chicken pox is going through DD's school. She had it quite severely two years ago so I didnt think much about it.

    Until now.

This morning she woke up with spots on her trunk and arms. (About 13 in total). I am now 99% sure she has chicken pox again. She has mild cold-like symptoms - runny nose, sore throat, slight temp (judging from rosy cheeks).

Has anyone else's child had it twice? Was it as severe as the first time? Or was it milder?

    A pox on the pox...

I have had it twice - second time it was not as bad and recovery was quicker. Hope your DD is the same! xx

I have had it twice, once as a child and then as a teenager right before final year exams. Not sure which one was worse, but the second time I was off school for around 2 weeks.

    Hope she gets better.

isn't the second time you get it actually shingles?
or can you get chicken pox twice?

Shingles is different ginger. Yes you can get chicken pox twice.
But I believe second time is less severe. Hope she gets over it quickly

Chicken pox and shingles are quite different. My nephew has had it twice, the 1st time he was covered from head to toe and 2nd time he had a mild dose with only a few spots.

Thanks everyone. Last time was a nightmare because she had an underlying staph infection. She didnt really recover for over a year and had over a dozen courses of ABs

She seems okay. Problem is the school knows so she wont be able to go back this week

It was. She had recurring styes, calesians, school sores, infected mozzie bites.... She ended up in hospital on IV ABs for four days diagnosed with a golden staph infection. The paed thinks the chicken pox sent her over the edge.

I had it twice as a child - first case was mild and the second time was worse (have a nice pox mark on my forehead) and was off school for a couple of weeks coming into school holidays (I think I was in year 3 that time)
