How much water is he drinking? It could be hurting because it's too acidic?
WRT accidents...can't help you there... I haven't got that far yet.
I'm going to try to get DS in the Dr tomorrow (it's too late today to get an appt) but am hoping someone might have some advice or insight as to what is going on with him.
DS has been day potty trained for 4 months now and we stopped overnight diapers a month ago. He has been accident free since then. This week though he has had 4 accidents (2 in the day and 2 overnight). He is constantly grabbing his penis which I assumed was just because he is a boy and he can, and sometimes tells me his penis hurts (though this is usually because he has given himself an erection or got it stuck the wrong way in his underwear). We had a urine test done 2 weeks ago (during a check-up to make sure the grabbing was nothing) and all was fine. Now when he pees in his little potty though you can see his urine is quite cloudy and the accidents have happened since then. I made the mistake or reading what cloudy urine could indicate on Google and scared myself a little. Has anyone else gone through anything similar?

Sounds like a UTI to me. No wonder he's grabbing - they hurt!
He could definitely stand to drink some more but it's so hard, he just doesn't want to.
Although not as common in boys as in girls, urinary tract infections can cause this. It also causes you to urinate more frequently (therefore the accidents), because you constantly have the urge to pee, even when there is nohing left anymore. And it really hurts.
Hope he is better soon.![]()
Maybe try giving him popsicles to eat. You can even make them yourself by freezing fruit juice. Or try giving him fruit that has a high water content (water melon, apples etc). Or maybe even make some jelly, that has a high water content, too. If it is a UTI, then he needs to take in more fluids and try to avoid salt!
I would get it checked out again. Maybe he got the infection because he kept touching himself? Maybe it only just developed, therefore they could not see anything at the last check up?
good luck

Thanks so much for the suggestions, I will def get him checked again tomorrow just to be sure. In the meantime I have made him a giant sippy cup of dilute chocolate milk, something I don't like to give to often, and he is happily chugging it down. He just had a nice clear pee too so if it is a UTI it does not appear to be too bad. He said it doesn't hurt right now but he has a very red anus (gonna ask the doctor about that tomorrow too) which he says is itchy and ouchy so that is bothering him more.
Just got back form the Doctors. Good news is no UTI (he did a test in house for us). The Dr said cloudy urine in the morning is normal. When they have a really long sleep (DS sleeps roughly 9pm -9am) sediment can build up and it is flushed out in the morning. As long as it goes clear during the day (he had a nice clear pee for the Dr) then it's nothing to worry about.
The reason he is grabbing himself and saying his penis hurts is he has a mild infection at the tip of his penis just under the foreskin. It's very mild but enough to cause discomfort and combined with the sore bum (it's been so hot and damp here he has a bit of Thrush in there) is maybe distracting him enough to miss the cue that he has to pee until too late. I guess toilet training set backs are pretty normal too, he was just doing so well I thought his accident days were behind him. We're to put a bit of polysporin on the tip of his penis and some ketoconazole on his bum and he should be more comfortable in no time. Once his infection and Thrush clear up, hopefully his accidents will stop too.
Thanks for all your help!
That's a relief! I'm glad it's nothing serious.
I hope his thrush/infection is gone real soon!
Bigfor the both of you!
...brave little man!
