DD who is nearly 3 is very impacted and was prescribed movicol half to clean her out... Once we have her moving she is to be on parachoc for 6 to 8 mths.
My problem?? She won't drink it! It has to be mixed with 60mls of water and she gagged. Few hours later and several different drinks, we tried it in cordial - she gagged again!
How do I get this into her?
I can't hold her down and force feed her...
Help!
I dont have any suggestions for getting your DD to take Movicol, it's pretty yucky, but we used to recommend it to our patients due to it being effective & gentle, but now we recommend Osmolax - it's AWESOME!
My DD (20mths old) needs to take something for her bowels due to another med causing constipation, and we have her on Osmolax. It's absolutely tasteless & can be added to anything hot or cold. It comes in a tub with a tiny scoop & you just add whatever dose to whatever you need to, even water!
It is also very gentle on their tummys I highly recommend it (but check with your Dr 1st)
Haha, can you tell I'm a fan??
Have not heard of Osmolax, but we use Lactulose here.
DH had it with his bowel surgery and our GP's have advised it is fine for DD2 to take as she tends to suffer from constipation. It is quite sweet, we just mix it with a bit of water to thin it down. It works on introducing water back to the bowel and just making everything soft. It is not instant, but quite effective if kept up.
I can't stomach movicol either. Makes me gag. I hate that she feels so dreadful and I can't do anything - even the chemist asked how I was going to get this into her!!
We used osmolax as it has no taste but it didn't do the job 6 months later dd was still impacted, we now use lactulose too and it's made a big difference.
We use Movicol Junior for this reason, we were told we could use Half but Junior is flavour free. Half has more sodium content or something on comparison, I cant remember exactly now, but they were comparable. Half has flavour, Junior doesn't apparently, Ive never tried either . Ive never had issue getting him to drink junior, and he will drink it straight with water.
Previously we've used both parachoc and lactulose to no effect.
We got osmolax from the chemist (very easy to find) and it worked perfectly!!! We have moved the impaction and she drinks it without any issues what so ever!!!!!
JaCaMa - it has been an absolute godsend! It works, it's gentle, it doesn't make her too soft, she can't taste it and it hasn't upset her tummy!!! Absolutely brilliant!
In fact, I went back to my chemist and told all the girls about how well it worked for us and suggested they recommend it in place of movicol where possible and they were very excited to be able to offer an alternative because they didn't know it was tasteless but worked just as good as the other!!!!
