DD can do the splits, is this a sign of hip problems??
A bit of background- when DD was born she had her hips routinely checked by everyone and their dog, no problems ( we have no risk factors). Then at the 2 month checkup my MCHN decided her hips were terrible loose ( she had previously checked them) and basically gave me all the info on harnesses etc as she was sure she would need one.The U/S was normal ( one hip's measurement was near the outer range of normal but still ok) so that was that.
Now, at 8 month check up, MCHN has decided again that her hips are abnormal, because DD can sit in the middle splits- she doesn't do this normally, but she went through a phase when she started going from lying on her stomach to sitting up by pushing herself back and going through middle splits then bringing her legs forward into a normal sitting position. She has since moved on from doing this and does it another way now, she is crawling, pulling herself to standing and generally moving normally. She can still do the splits though, but sits in a normal way. MCHN thinks her hips are too flexible and that it is a problem.
Has anyone's baby done this?
We initially thought it was funny as I have always been very flexible and in my heyday did calisthenics and was the one who could do any splits etc.
MCHN wants her to have an X-Ray-I flat out have said no at this stage, so am going to gp tomorrow for an u/s referral. MCHN is pretty old school and also ( judging from what others in my mothers group have had said to them) errs on the side of caution to the ridiculous stage. I will have it checked again because I dont' want something missed just because I think MCHN is over the top, but it really annoyed/ upset me as everytime I come out of a visit there I end up stressing about something.
Does anyone know if this is a sign of a problem or can some babies just be flexible like this? She is extremely active so the thought of putting her into a harness or whatever they go in, is devastating to say the least.
