Thanks for your support and advice, everyone I really appreciate it as I was feeling scared and down when I posted. I did read everyone's replies when they arrived.

DD is very much better today! The penicillin kicked in really really quickly (she had a big dose first up) and she was already breathing so much better after 12 hours. 36 hours later, she's as good as new! (Well... almost!) She has the most productive cough I think I've ever heard and an impressive amount of mucous, but she's raring to go full of energy today! So happy!

Traveller - thanks for those tips - they are great! We'd been using Karvol already, but the tips about having water that evaporates in her room is fantastic and I'll be doing that to help with clearing all the mucous in her chest now. She does sleep in her own room, but we have a decent monitor that turned up full sensitivity and full volume you can hear her breathing very clearly - she'd be in our room unless it was for this - I wouldn't cope if I couldn't hear her breathing, otherwise! I hope your son is well and truly over his boughts of illness - I can't imagine it going on constantly - I found this episode so scary, and I think you've been very strong to cope with constant illness like that

    Thanks again, ladies
