Hi there - I don't have a child with juvenile diabetes (Type 1), however my DH has had Type 1 since he was diagnosed at 4 years of age.

Some of the symptoms are:
Frequent Thirst and Urination
Problems with vision
Vomitting and nausea
Generally just very unwell

In regards to how it is diagnosed - you can get blood sugar readings done by doc. They may do a simple test in their office which is like the testing that diabetics do constantly throughout the day. They may do other blood tests and also urine testing that will give a more definitive answer.
