Does anyone have a child with Infant Diabetes?

As the title asks , does anyone on BB have a child with infant diabetes if so I was wondering if they could give me a run down of their experience.
How was it diagnosed?
What signs/symptoms/behaviour did you notice if any?

Hi there - I don't have a child with juvenile diabetes (Type 1), however my DH has had Type 1 since he was diagnosed at 4 years of age.

Some of the symptoms are:
Frequent Thirst and Urination
Problems with vision
Vomitting and nausea
Generally just very unwell

In regards to how it is diagnosed - you can get blood sugar readings done by doc. They may do a simple test in their office which is like the testing that diabetics do constantly throughout the day. They may do other blood tests and also urine testing that will give a more definitive answer.

Not sure if that helps much. Let me know if you have any other questions, I will try to help out from my experience living with a diabetic.

Thanks I appreciate the replies, we have had a lot of issues with DD (15 months) lately, behavioural and sleep etc. We think it has been related to some food intollerance which we are trying to work out, but I am also trying to avoid an elimination diet. I was speaking to a health nurse about her behaviour and also she often gets a distinct smelling breath, not horrible but not nice either kind of sweet fruity smell. The nurse mentioned infant diabetes and said not to rule it out. I have done a little research on it but could not find a lot of info.
She does drink alot of water but I wouldnt say she urinates frequently. She will be very angry and grumpy slapping me and DH like she is in pain and if we give her something to eat she is all better instantly. Now I kow this is probably normal behaviour for a hungry toddler but she eats all the time so its not like she is starving or anything then we feed her if that makes sense. Its like she has low insulin level or something which makes her grumpy then she eats and she is normal again.
I am probably not making any sense and its probably not diabetes but I was thinking of getting a referral to a paed and thought it might be worth mentioning to them, I dont want to come across as someone who is looking for something wrong iykwim but I know something is not right and I am just trying to explore all avenues this being one of them

My sister was diagnosed when she was 18 months - I was only a couple of years older, so i don't remember what she was like, but everything you've said sounds familiar. We always knew when B had high blood sugar because she would be grumpy, coz it makes them feel quite sick. And we also knew when she had low blood sugar, because she'd be more clingy and emotional, and very quiet.

Its fairly simple to get your daughter tested, and the sooner you do it, the better it'll be for all of you. I remember Mum trying to teach Nana how to do B's injections so B could have a sleepover - she tried a million times on an orange, and then Mum asked B if it was alright if Nana did her injection. B was okay with it, so Mum put her on the table so Nana could do it in her bum, coz it hurt less there Nana drew up the insulin like a pro, didn't hesitate when she put it the needle in - and then took the needle out without injecting anything!

Get her checked out fairly quickly darl, hopefully its nothing but the sooner you find out, the better

Thanks Berenice, yeah its either one extreme to the other its either massive tantrums, kicking, stiffing up slapping etc or its clingy wants to be carried doesnt want anyone but me. It could be anything i guess, I will get it checked though
