    Face plant onto tiles

DD tripped over her own feet and face planted into the tiles. She's ok (it happened yesterday) but has knocked her two top front teeth loose. They are just baby teeth so I'm not worried but one is looser than the other and the gum looks really bruised and moves with the tooth when she wiggles it.

She's fine, usually happy self only complaining a little this morning when she ate her toast but she managed.

Do I need to be worried? Should I take her to the GP? Try to see a dentist? See how she goes?

It's just the gums that are worrying me now.

    Thanks for any help!

Wow ouch! I know when I was 2 I fell over and knocked my too front top teeth out. Um... I would say she'll probably be ok, she's just given them a bloody good whack, and chances are she's gonna lose those teeth. I wouldn't imagine it will do too much damage, if she really starts complaining or you notice it look overly bruised/infected I'd take her. But maybe you could take her to the gp just for piece of mind?

She brushed her teeth this morning and said it hurt but she seems fine again. Might give it another 24 hrs and see what she's like tomorrow.

Her lip has come down a lot, looked awful yesterday. Not the first time she's done this either, shocking balance/coordination.

She's just waiting for them to fall out now because she was watching something and apparently the tooth fairy is now paying $20 a tooth! Hmmm only if Daddy is paying lol.

Yep, I'd see a dentist too. The deciduous (baby) teeth actually do an important job holding the space for the permanent teeth, although at 4.5 she might be losing those top front ones soon anyway. If the permanent teeth are close to erupting it is possible that they have been damaged by the force on the deciduous teeth when your DD fell. Hopefully, no harm done (apart from some pain for the poor bubba!!) but I would still get a dentist to take a look.

Something similar (sort of) happened in our house a couple of weeks ago....without the trauma though.

DD was biting on a biscuit and started to cry. She said her tooth hurt. When she showed me one of the bottom middle teeth was bleeding a little bit and wiggled. I assumed it would be OK in a couple of days but after a week when it was still loose I rang a dentist. They spoke to their head ortho who told me that in DD's case it was probably because it was going to become loose soon anyway. It's still loose some three weeks later and a little painful, but they said that was to be expected. If it got more painful or blackened or any other issue they were going to make a spot for her straight away.

So in short (sorry for the waffle) I think ringing someone is a great idea. If you have a paedi dentist close even better.

Good luck hun - it really does suck, Izzy pushed her tooth up into her gum a few weeks ago and the 2 next to it are now going grey. We went for a check as they x-rayed it to see if the adult tooth was damaged and they also told us to look for root damage which will come up in a pimple/gum boil on the gum up high. Best to get it checked good luck tomorrow xoxo

My baby had to have a needle and the tooth pulled!

It had broken off under the gum, they are hoping the other one will be ok but we have to go back in a week, then a month then 3 months! She also has to be on soft foods for two weeks!

    The poor thing

Oh my gosh, that is terrible! The poor little thing. Will it effect her adult teeth at all? How long will she be toothless for?

The dentist was LOVELY I'm actually a little disappointed she's going on maternity leave so we can't keep going to her!

I asked about adult teeth and she said we really just have to see how things go, need to check her gum daily for any changes, and hopefully the adult tooth with push the other 1/2 still in there out. She's hoping the tooth next to it will fix itself and stop moving but if not we have to have that pulled next week as well!

Oh I was a mess, I had to stop myself from crying so DD wouldn't see/hear it! I just felt so awful, my poor little baby, what a dramatic way to lose her first tooth!

I wasn't at all expecting them to pull it, glad I went!
