My dentist won't see them until they are 2 or older so check with your dentist as to what they recommend. Mine said that they need to be able to follow instructions.

The dentist i saw today said 2+ is generally when they get checked out as they have most of their teeth (DD2 still didn't have all IYKWIM) and they are more able to follow instructions.
I think 1 would be a little daunting anyway.
DD1's first visit was today and she's 3.5
