I took Dd1 for her first checkup when she was 3, almost 4. She (and i )brush her teeth regularly. She had a cavity. . I had no idea. She has deep fissures so had fissure seals put on to help prevent more. I then took DD2 who was just 3 for a check up too. We now go every 6 months. I think as soon as they can follow basic instructions they can go.

When I went to the dentist, I took my baby brother at about 18mths (he is 18 years younger than I) and he used to come in, and sit up on the chair and open his mouth and the dentist just put the mirror in and had a look - it was good, as he wasn't scared and it just showed him the routine.... I don't think we even paid for that bit, it was just something we did to get him comfortable when I was there anyway.....
... he was a really good toddler though... obviously I was able to sit in the chair and he just waited in the corner of the room for me.... pretty awesome really!!! (that's what happens when you essentially have 5 parents!!! (my sister was 12 and brother was 14 when he was born)..... always someone to keep you entertained!)
