How many wet nappies should there be in an almost 2 year old in 24 hours?
DD3 has had gastro for over 36 hours now. Still breast feeding, but only keeping very minimal amounts down. Also has extremely liquified diarrhea & an on/off fever.
I'm thinking it was a pretty dry nappy this morning, but it was filled before I could really tell. No wee's since then - about 7.30am (nearly 10 here now).
Lips slightly drier than usual, but not cracked. Still bright, alert & cheeky
I've never had a gastro bug last longer than 24 hours (except DD2's rota virus), so I'm not sure if I should be worried or not. I planned on seeing how she went over night, & over night she was dry wretching, but she started keeping small feeds down (after she brought the bigger ones up) .
So after not chucking since about 5 this morning, I was going to wait & see, & if she went again, take her to the gp. She just vommited again, but she's still so bright & alert that I'm not sure she's that bad.
I would buy the hydralyte either in icy pole form or you can put it into drinks... Sounds like she is dehydrated! I would take her to your gp just to be checked over and put your mind at ease!
Always worth getting her checked over if you're worried. FWIW, ds had gastro at the end of march. He came down with it during the night & then had the effects of it for the next 3 days. By the 2nd day he seemed better but was still occasionally vommiting or the other end. We didn't take him to the doctor (cos the gastro put me into labour) but just made sure he was having little sips of water etc.
We've got an app in half hour. I wasn't going to worry, but her eyes are really dark underneath & looking kinda sunken. & now I think about it, I don't remember a wee since maybe Monday night... I know there were none yesterday afternoon, but the nappies before & after that were too full & yuck to tell (leaking & straight into a plastic bag from the shower!)
He's said to keep feeding her. Try give her any fluids she'll take & if she doesn't improve she'll need to go up & be admitted. She's looking quite well otherwise, still active etc. He's had a few people in the area come in with the same thing.
I think she's on the improve No vomitting since about 10 this morning. Just hope the diarrhea backs off as well. She's thirsty too. Knows she needs to drink, so she is.
This sucks watching my baby like this. She's too tiny to handle it
Seriously considering taking her for fluids today. She was ok from 10am - 5pm yesterday. Then we were up at 11, 1, 2 & 5. Her nappy went all through the bed at one point & the last one was 3 lots of vomitting, the last one with nothing left to come up
Waiting to see how she's looking etc when she wakes up & how she tolerates boob this morning. The doc said yesterday the only reason she'd be doing as well as she was is because I was feeding her... She's now given up on trying to eat or drink anything else.
Well... Whatever was left in her stomach just came up. I must've fed her sometime after the last episode, coz it was BM. Then she had another very small feed & that came straight back up
Looks like I have my answer. Will get the kids some clothes ready incase they have to stay somewhere tonight & go have her checked out again I think.
We were admitted on red cordial. 2 cups, a few breast feeds & a hydrolyte icypole & she's weeing again! 2 wet nappies since about 4. Huge relief.
Still vomitting though, so still gotta be careful & will take her back tomorrow if needed.
