I have had to have the tests for my 2 year old (tested as he has a speech delay) this showed hearing loss, and they were able to tell me at the test that it was not permanent and so probably due to glue ear. The trip to the ENT specialist confirmed this - grommets in, speech improving. The test was put toy people in a boat when you hear a sound.
My 10m old was harder to test ( tested as he had meningitis @3m) and the process sounds similar to yours. Each time a sound was played, the tv to one side flashed with a cartoon picture. It's not precise, but I guess that's the best you can do at that age. Result was ok (inconclusive) but I was told to come back at 2 years for another test.
I think you will learn more from the ENT Specialist as the hearing test is just that - hearing only. The ENT Sp will be more able to investigate causes and possible solutions, aides to the issue (if there is one).

DJ had a hearing test done at 10 months (on ABs after birth) and he didnt get the whole toy thing eather...but then again neather did i 
tomorrow we go back. but last time the lady did another test when he was alseep - and the tests showed he was fine - this is just a "check up" ...plus DJ is a blonde like me and is easily dis...ooo pretty
