Oh Jols, it's so awful when they're so sick . Will she have those hydralyte/gastrolyte icy poles, or drink the stuff? I can drop some into you today if you don't have any. Seriously, please say yes if you want me to, I will be going to Chirny and going past your place anyway. Don't worry, I won't be coming in!!!! And I have some sachets of hydralyte here if you want me to drop a couple in, just to give it a go. It's amazing how much better you feel once you're a bit better hydrated.
As for the EBM, have you got any milo or something that you can mix in to help her drink it? It will really help with hydrating her. Totally get that she'd turn her nose up at it plain though .
well after a crapish night shes finally has a normal temp !!!
she woke at 10.45 with a temp of 40.1 so gave panadol and ab's, finally went to the toilet, second time in over 12 hours, she woke several times for water, drank quiet abit over night, woke with a temp of 40.2 this morning so more nurofen and ab's and currently its 37, will see what happens when the nurfen wears off, she was so hot this morning it was scary, radiating heat.
thanks so much for the offer sez very much appreciated!! looks like the water is doing its job!! i think i have a sachet of the hydrolyte too, hopefully were over the worst of it, i hope so cos i need sleeep! will let you know though!!!
AJP - i hope your girls are getting better.. it's horrible not knowing.
my DD is also sick, started as a viral infection over a week ago with a rash, random high temps, sleepy etc etc, took her to the docs on friday after 3 days of being sick told it's a viral infection should last 3-5 days, took her back again Wed as she was now getting a cough on top of it.
She now has a COLD and a viral infection and at times wont drink properly, someone mentioned to me that you can get HYDRALITE ICY POLES which help with dehydration, am not 100% sure on the age they can be used from but these may come in handy if you need to get some extra fluids in?
I think this is pretty much a last resort but doesn't hurt to know there is something there!
Other than that i can only suggest the same as the girls, i am trying the panadol/nurofen combination, letting her sleep and lots of cuddles oh and the wiggles and hi-5 work a treat..
Sorry prob haven't been much help, hope they are on the mend and big , keep up the great work!
You poor thing, hope it all settle for you i know how hard it is when you feel like theres nothing you can do.
DD randomly woke screaming after her morning nap and took me 25min to calm her down, no hugs, dummy or anything would work, finally the wiggles and a snuggle on the couch did the trick.
Got her to eat some lunch them randomly started crying again, went for a nice big walk and am hoping she will go down for another nap now... , her poor little bum is red and bleeding a little again, her nose wont stop running and her cough is making her sick.
well shes crashed again 39.7 temp and asleep, she wont take her ab's but took some nurofen, if the temp is still there when she wakes i might take her to the hospital... when is enough enough???
It's so hard to know when is enough enough. Have you thought of calling Nurse on Call and asking their advice? Saves you having to go out again if you can avoid it.
Jols, I would give the ABs 24 hours to see if they kick in. If she's really bad overnight tonight then maybe think about bundling her into the car while M is asleep.
well she slept for about 90 mins, woke up and temp was down to 38, she went to be about 45 mins later, have to go back tomorrow is temp is still up. hopefully no more high ones!
I would do the same as Janie. When Matilda was sick last week, for the first 24 hours on antibiotics I gave panadol, than 2 hours later I gave neurophen, than I'd wait 4 hours and do it again. I didn't wait for the temp to go up, I just gave the antibiotics a chance to work without the body fighting. I was determined to stay out of hospital this time (you know how much time we've spent there this year!). I phoned her paed urologist who said that was the best way to keep her out of hospital, but if her temp got to 39 than to head in. I just didn't let it have the chance because I kept up the panadol/neurophen challange.
ETA: posting at the same time! YAY!!! I hope the high temps stay away from now on
