Damn and BUGGER. Its like my kids catch something when I am LOOKING in the vaccination threads! Last time they both got mumps, now just when I was chasing Schmickers posts about MMR, Elizabeth is covered in spots!
Anyhoo, I'd like to take her to see someone (that won't lecture me!) about treating her, I can't get into the BB Centre until Thursday - can anyone recommend somewhere else I can try?
She is in very good spirits apart from bouts of shirtyness, but I will be watching like a hawk for any changes.
Lulu- There is a Dr in Eltham that is not pro vacc, right into alternative therapies including homeopathic vaccination. I will phone a friends and get her name for you........ brb
ok, her name is Dr Pam Dagley. Might be worth a shot.
Are you sure its measles, not german measles? There has been virtuallly no measles for years, the health dept will be talking isolation etc and i think its mandatory notification no matter who you see...
How far can u travel..Nicole who works at BB also works out of Park Orchards Mon-Wed I think, if shes not on holidays
Yeah, its looks like classic Measles - all the symptoms are there. The spots took a while to come out but here they are now.
I'm trying to track back when she got it. Beth has minimal contact with other kids and I don't put her in child care if she has sniffles (that's usually the start of something), pity no one else can do the same .
I was getting a little bit antsy because dad rung the other day to tell me there is a Measles outbreak in the UK. One of the premises that I don't vacc is healthy eating and good immune system...but DS seems to catch everything around and twice as bad as everyone else gets it and it had me thinking about preventative measures. Of course DS is showing NO SIGNS at all!
When they had Mumps, I knew more about the treatment than the Dr did and the Health Dept were really happy with my knowledge and approach to treatment. I think I'll call them directly myself. I can't be bothered having another Dr climbing out the window about it all.
Thanks for that ladies, I will chase those up.
and for a Punching Bag moment.....for the 5 days straight I have managed to have her sleeping issues under control. I have been a well rested NEW woman...and now this! Dp is taking DS up to his mums so I can keep her nice and quiet and rested.
lulu- there is a lady who works at McAdams square at croydon hills that people absoutely rave about. i've never been to her but she's supposed to be fantastic.
Actually, just because the rash is fading, doesn't mean it's not measles. It can be a very mild virus, some children don't even get the rash and in other cases, it does fade quickly.
'I've come into contact with measles during two of my pregnancies so have done a lot of reading about it.
I sent the teenragers there with the little ones so I could mop the floor. SEE what you get for doing housework????
I am utterly convinced its Measles, but it does seem a mild case after all. The spots got really angry looking this afternoon and I have just run about stocking up on Panadol, lemonade and jelly...and CUPCAKES!
They both got very mild cases of the mumps too, only lasting a day or so. Weird. I would rather they got a full belt of it (that sounds horrible) so I could be sure they couldn't get a second bout.
Still sending DS to his dads tomorrow so I can get DD to lie down and chill for 5 minutes, she's not out of the woods yet.
ETA: the kids were at the pool a day or two after Boxing Day AJ.
doesn't sound horrible, makes perfect sense to me. That's why spot parties used to be so popular i guess. Bummer i'm not allowed over, i made some ripper cupcakes myself today!
She's perfectly fine thanks AJ!
Apart from being stuck inside all day (sun is a big no-no), she is her usual self, maybe a little bit thirstier than usual.
The spots are paler on her face, still all over her body but really only pin*****s. I remember I had massive spots all over me and I felt terrible for a whole week. It really seems a mild, mild case.
Wonder why that is? Still waiting to hear my from my friend - Beth was at her daughters first birthday on NYE.....no symptoms there so far.
good to hear lulu!! DD has had one of the MMR i was worried about me but remembered i had MMR for work a few years back!!
glad she's on the mend, probably good to be inside today!!
For what its worth I thought I would add my two cents.
My daughter recently came out in a rash like measles, we spent 2 days in hospital but the docs swore it wasn't measles and it was just some other sort of virus. She was really irritable and covered in the rash. She cleared up 3 days after the rash first appeared and seams fine now.
Hope Elizabeth has cleared up and life can return to 'normal'
