Hi, my son has Metatarsus Adductus and has recently had surgery for it. He wasn't diagnosed with it until about 15 months as we were told by paediatricians and physio's that it would fix itself, which it didn't. The Orthopedic specialist and physio at the Royal Children's Hospital in Brisbane diagnosed it and tried stretches and the serial casts, which helped a bit, but it didn't last so he had to have surgery, which has made a huge difference! It's wonderful to see him with a straight foot and not tripping over it all the time! I've been reading up on it and if it is found and treatment started before they start walking, casts are usually successful. Unfortunately, Jack was already walking for a few months before he had his casts on.
I'm really interested to hear that your DS had surgery as I was wondering if that ever occurred for this condition.
We've had 6 weeks of casting when DD was only a few weeks old and then were told to wait until she was 14 mths. At that point the Ortho Surgeon recommended another lot of casting which caused awful pressure sores so now we have splints instead. My DD is 17 mths and not walking yet (to do with the feet?).
How did your DS recover from his op? I'm glad all is well with him now.
