DD1 had these quite badly for about 18m - they do go away by themselves if you leave them alone. They look bad but they don't hurt or itch. Don't try to ***** them as they will scar. Make sure no other kids are in the bath with your child or use the same towel as that's how it can spread. They usually last about 6m - 2y before the body develops an immune response to them. When it does they will go red and angry and then just disappear.
