DS's foreskin is really red & swollen. I have no idea what's causing it.
Occasionally he'll winge about it, but it doesn't bother him too much.
I just want to know what to put on it.
Should I use nappy rash cream (zinc/castor oil based), or antiseptic (paraderm with anaesthetic in it).
I have no idea what to do. With the girls I know what a rash looks like. I can usually tell the difference between nappy rash, thrush & eczema, but with DS I have no idea what it is or what to do.
He's sleeping with no nappy on now. I'm thinking about taking him into the hospital or gp tomorrow, depending on where I can get in.
What about a sitz bath? Bri has been having them for her eczema lately. Do you think that would help, or hinder?
BJ - my DS had something like this and I originally put nappy rash cream on it for a day, but it wasn't doing anything. I took him to the doctors and he had thrush, which they prescribed creams for and it cleared up straight away. He was very red and I think from memory it was a bit sensitive to touch. It looked a bit dry too.
Ok, thats kind of relieveing to hear. It sounds very similar, & he has had thrush in the mouth when he was little, so he's probably prone to it.
So do you know if canestein can be put on it??? Sorry, just my car broke down today (clutch went) & our other car is out of rego & the nearest gp is 20kms away, so not easy to get there atm.
TIA
When my nephew was little he had a red, swollen foreskin / penis and it meant a trip to the doctors then the hospital.
He had an infection that had got in at a weak moment. He had a temp, was weeing heaps and was quite unsettled.
Dr said if if happened again he would have to be circumcised. Never happened again thankfully.
Sometimes the tip of my boys Penis' gets a bit red and sore looking.
I have never put anything on it. A nice long soak in the bath tends to help.
Well I might try a bath. Then I'll put some canestin on it. Doubt it'd hurt. He's not weeing more than usual & seems fine otherwise, so don't think its an infection. Well no fever.
I'm always so careful, coz I chose not to circ for a reason. Well a million reasons actually. I never want him to go through that.
He is sensitive to soap, but this is different. The same thing happens, but not as bad.
Oh well. Hopefully this'll work. We don't have a bath, only a shower, so they don't actually bath as often as they should.
