My baby had a broken heart!

Wow!!! What a couple of days we have had!!!! We are now out of close obs and on the main ward. This is a huge step towards going home and it means I can stay with him. Charlie has done amazingly well since surgery. He's a different baby!!!!!
-He is no longer on any oxygen support. Breathing air for two days now and doing really well.
-All drains are out. Last one came out on Friday and no signs of pneumothorax coming back. This is huge because they were starting to talk about more surgery!!
-I have been trying him on the boob since Friday. He is doing incredible for a baby that has been tube fed only for eight weeks! He has a real go, just has no strength behind his latch or suck. I am trying him on the boob now every feed and then topping up with the tube depending on how I think he's fed. Yesterday he had a full feed just from me!!! I didn't put anything down the tube out of curiosity and he slept three hours before wanting another feed!!!! He's so clever! I can't believe he remembers what to do!!
-Charlie was weighed this morning. He is now 5.04kgs!! That means he has put on 500gms since surgery three weeks ago!! Hoping we can start cutting down the fortifier in the tube feeds.
-I have started Charlie on a baby probiotic added to tube feeds and I will keep giving it when he's on the boob. He has had so many courses of antibiotics poor little thing!!

So- all good news!!!! This has been the longest two months of my life and I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel!!! Charlie is still being weaned off the methadone and other sedation so we are waiting for that to be off. Once the meds have reduced and the feeding is established we can go home!!!!! There's a bit of education we need regarding the drugs he's coming home on. He will be on warfarin for life which means blood tests every second day and keeping an eagle eye out for bleeding or bruising. We are having our first education session today and my parents are coming in for it as well. They haven't seem him since pre second surgery so I think they're in for a shock!!

Smiling all the way through this update. Can't believe how far he's come!!!!
