i was going to say fungal aswell......
with my DD (long time ago in nappies ) DR told me to use HYDRAZOLE cream (tiny amount of hydracortisone in it) used it and it went away overnight!!! DD used to call it 'magic cream' but also use an anti-fungal cream... if it isn't going away using over the counter anti-fungal cream best see your gp.
i make my own soothing and calming solution with calandular flower and camomile tea... i mmake a batch, add some cold water and use that on cloth wipes...
Use this as a wipe after nappy changes and also bath in water withh a batch added each day...
We have only once had nappy rash and that was when we were away camping and we used shop bought wipes and she had no nappy free time and not very many baths (it was freezing)
As soon as we were home, i switched back and also bathed her in this tea mixture too and it was gone really quickly
I would think fungal may be a possibilty as we have been having thrush issues- (mouth and nipple) but the Dr said he didnt think it was fungal even after hearing that we have had thrush. He is due for his 6 month shots next thursday and if it hasnt cleared by then i will ask to see the dr again- maybe a different one!!
It sounds fungal to me as well. I would alternate an over the counter antifungal cream with some hydrazole for a week or two until the rash clears. All of the other suggestions in here about managing the symptoms are good as well.
Thanks everyone!! I definatley agree its fungal too, the cream for excema that the dr prescribed has done nothing, so i began using the Daktozin and even some of the Daktarin that i have been using on my nipples and wala, it is going away...
So now another question.. is this rash then a sign that our thrush problems are dangeous??????? We have been having a back and forth thrush prblem (my nipples DS mouth) since DS was about 8 weeks old, i have been to two drs about this, one who was astounded at the fact i thought i had thrush on my nipples and said "oh i didnt know you could get it there!!" and this dr recently who diagnosed the rash as excema, even though i told him we have had thrush for um gee, about 4 months now.
I have seen a chemist who seemed a bit more on to it and i have been taking Inner Health plus and i even have some powder form for DS to mix with his rice cereal- this i have been doing for about 3-4 weeks now, so MAYBE, this rash might be around because his body is getting rid of all the yucky thrush stuff from his body.. i dont have a rash and i still have thrushy nipples!!!
As the rash is easing i am unsure what to do now... i am thinking of going back on monday to see the dr- ds is due for his 6 month imm on thursday and i dont know if i want him to have them yet if there is something else going on with him.
I always like to give the tree hugger approach a go if all else fails or im just not getting the answers i want ( i am slowly learning to try this option first but it takes a while to get away from the medical model)
