    Our first power-chuck. Advice please?

Annabelle had her first big vomit today, and it was scary

This morning when she first woke up I picked her up and she did the kind where she opens her mouth and a little river comes out - not much, but enough to make me change my top. Those aren't unusual, she's done a couple like that. So we went out shopping, she was fine the whole time.

Get home, and she was crying because she doesn't like when the car stops. I got her inside and she wasn't stopping - she normally stops crying as soon as I'm holding her. And then she did this massive vomit - we both got covered, it went all over the floor. She was screaming I put her down to clean her up and she did more, it was coming out of her nose and everything. I quickly stripped us both and wrapped us in a towel, and she calmed down. It was so horrible, the only other time she's cried like that is when she had her vaccinations

She calmed down, had a feed and fell asleep. She's still asleep now, but that's not unusual as it's nap time anyway. But it was so scary - I called DH in tears. At the moment she seems fine, and nappy-wise everything's ok. But if she keeps vomiting and the nappies dry up, what do I do? Go straight to the doctors? Will she get a temp if this keeps up and that's something I should watch out for?

I know there's a chance this is nothing and lots of babies vomit, but this isn't normal for Annabelle and I want to make sure I know what I'm doing if it does get worse.

Im sure she is fine, but as long as you keep up her fluids, even though she is vomiting try to bf her if she will take it. if her wet nappies taper off i would take her straight to the dr. but also dont forget, what can look like a lot of vomit, is never as much as it looks. Hopefully all is fine though, and belley just had a full tummy and had to get it out.

Sorry dont have much help to offer. But thought i would send my thoughts, i hope belley is alright.

    uck, that's yuck isn't it?
She will be fine though. Just happens sometimes. Not cool when you're lying in bed in the dark and all of a sudden it lands on your face.

    This.
Keep an eye on the number of wet/dirty nappies if it continues, and also pay attention to the smell and colour of her wee - if it seems to be darkening or smelling stronger, it pays to get her checked out. Go with your instincts hun, if she seems more than just out of sorts or it's more than an isolated mega-chuck, go to the Dr. She may get a temp, she may have her soft spot on her head look a little sunken if she's dehydrated - if this happens it's really important to get help for her.

Keep offering her the boob, if she's interested - it will help keep her fluids up.

Big hon, sick bubs aren't fun - hope she's better soon.

It's probably the one good piece of advice Child Health gave me was that if the amount is the size of an A4 piece of paper - it's only 20ml.

    Hope that helps.

Seriously?? It was very spread out (on both our clothes, by the front door, on the living room rug...) but I think all together it was probably only a tiny bit bigger than an A4 piece of paper, so that's good to know. Thanks

Bskilner & CK, thanks for your reassurance. Her soft spot isn't sunken, and she's feeding again now (nap temporarily interrupted when she escaped her wrap and punched herself in the face). I changed her nappy before feeding and it was wet, so all ok there too. I'm thinking it might have just been a once off, thankfully she's much happier now.

Heaven, you've made my day, that cracked me up! I'm seriously hoping she doesn't do this again at night

Gah I remember when DS had gastro recently - on and off for five days. We basically hibernated in the house and every time I fed him I would surround myself in towels to try and catch the rivers of vomit.

Don't forget you can always ring the nurse on call - if SA has something similar to what we have in Vic!

Anyway you've been given lots of great advice - trust your mummy instincts, if anything seems off, you know her best - take her to the GP or ED.

My DD is a projectiler! She did it a lot when little, then it eased up. Now only when she's sick. Just keep an eye out for any other symptoms, otherwise she should be ok if you can keep fluids in her. Do go striaght to doctor or ED if you're worried though.

    Good to hear!

May have just been an upset tummy for some reason. Happens from time to time.
