    Polaramine

Can anyone tell me about polaramine? Jazz has a bite (not sure what bit her though!) that looked like a red patch at 4pm, and then at 5pm it was raised and the size of a 20c piece, now it's raised even bigger and very red and angry.

Went to the pharmacy and spoke to the pharmacist who gave us some Polaramine syrup. Jazz is 2.3yo, over 15kg and quite tall (they thought she was over 3!) so apparently thats ok. We were told to give her 1.25mL. I know it's barely anything, although i freaked and only gave her 1mL...

I don't know much about Polaramine though? It says "may cause drowsiness", but is it like Phenergan? Does anyone know if it could also cause hyperactivity? I didn't think to ask! Anything else from one parent to another that I might want to know?

i take polaramine myself for my hayfever (it's the only thing that works on me) and it does make me drowsy. not sure the effect it would have on kids though.
sorry, that's not much help is it!

It's an antihistamine so it can cause drowsiness as with most antihistamines. It's a different drug to phenergan. I'm sure she'll be fine on it.

I wasn't sure. I've only ever heard of Phenergan (and the drowsiness vs hyperactivity), but never used any antihistamine on Jazz so no idea LOL!

Fingers crossed it works, or I can get her to a doctor tomorrow!

It will probably just give her a really really good sleep hon. If it doesn't help, then give her the rest of the dose advised by the pharmacist in about 45 min. It shouldn't send her hyperactive.
