My DD has one. Hasn't meant much to us, at 7 weeks it was observed to be "blind" so no ultrasound required. We've been screened a little more closely for NT defects this time, but that's about it really.
My two youngest have a dimple, ds2 is quite deep... But both completely healthy its very common to have a dimple if you google 'spina bifida occulta' you'll find some info about what the others were talking about, its really quite far removed from what people usually associate with spina bifida. FWIW I also know of a woman who had 8 children with spina bifida occulta and NONE of them had any developmental issues or delays! Hth
I have one too that I didnt know about until I had my first baby!
The only issue I have with mine is that sometimes it gets a bit tender. And a couple of other things that are only an issue as an adult. My eldest has one but the other two kids dont. He doesnt mention it so I dont think it causes him any issues.
Our DD has one. The creases on the back of her legs didn't line up either. We had an u/s to check out her hips and the GP isn't concerned about her dimple.
THe mat health nurse started freaking out about both and mentioned spina bifida and and and.....I'm really glad my GP is a bit more relaxed about it all.
This was after I had a high risk down's pregnancy (1:24 risk) and the bowel was echogenic in the 16 week scan we had, so off to see the genetic counsellor to rule out cystic fibrosis. OMG...having babies is really scary!!!
Lachlan has one that we found out about it when Ashton was born. A nurse was changing Ashton and said "oh his sacral dimple is deep" she looked and then said "Oh it's okay I can see the bottom of it" and then I thought 'hang on Lachlan has one of them' so when I was discharged I went home and checked Lachlan's and I couldn't see the bottom of his.
Went to GP who referred us for Ultrasound and the Ultrasound was inconclusive as to whether it was tethered or not. GP wanted us to have an MRI but he had to be sedated for it, so we said no. He said if he ever grows up and has issues with his running or anything like that to come back. It sometimes crosses my mind when I do see him run, not that he runs weird or anything, he's just so slow for a kid his age lol. He is now 8.
