Thankyou so much for your kind words ladies, we had an ok day on wednesday, Jacob pretty much slept all day, temp still up, but not as high as before, only had one chuck in the morning and one that night. He slept ok wed night, but woke with temp spike, back up to 39+, he woke thurs morning at 7am and chucked with panadol by mouth, so suppository again.
I really hate putting those things things in, I feel like I am violating my poor boy. he thrashes and screams so much, but I worked out that its easier to put in if he is on his tummy.
I rang local GP and surprise, surprise I was able to get in pretty much straight away, saw a different GP who I explained the whole scenario to, she reviewed his history and starting bagging me about him not having his rota virus vax, said that it was probably gastro as he wasnt vaccd, (I delayed his vax till he was 6 months, so was too old to have it) she gave me a baggie witha poo scooper and told me to bring a sample in as soon as he did a poo, gave me a leaflet on gastro and sent me out the door, there was more to it, but she made me so angry (have previously seen this woman, told me to stop BFing as he was so big he didnt need it)
So we went home, DS didnt have a temp all day, was his normal self but then started to sound rather horase, I was also getting a bit worried as he stopped wanting to BF at all and would not drink any water, by 6pm, I was very worried, only 1 wet nappy all day, I tried to feed him some very watery vegies, only minimal interest, then chucked it. I put him in the bath and noted with shock that my normal water loving baby was screaming, I think as he had urinated in the bath , I started thinking he might have a urine infection, something the hospital had suggested but not one of the docs I had seen had bothered with a urine sample.
I rang the parents helpline again, they were concerned about the lack of wet nappies, said I should get him to another doc straight away, I rang another late night service, tey were fully booked up but when I explained the situation they told me to bring in anyway.
I saw a doc at around 9pm, DS still had no temp () but was very horse by now, the doc was a bit surprised at everything we had been through but he explained that it was most likely a nasty viral infection, the chucking and sloppy poo a reaction to the ABs and heving a high temp, he was pleased that his temp was now right down and had been for a good 12 hours, he said that Jacob wasnt displaying any signs of dehydration, and when we took his nappy off, he had another wee. The doc said that now the virus had been through his body it would more than likely turn into a upper respiratoy tract infection, lots of coughing and hoarseness, which should resolve in around a week or two. thi smakes sense to me finally. I feel ok with that diagnosis. I just KNEW that the others werent quite right.
But then last night at midnight his temp spiked again at 39+, he took the panadol by mouth ok, and drank about 100mls of water and had 2 BFs, he woke at 4am crying in such a way that he was obviously in pain, nearly made me cry too, he had no temp, but I gave him some panadol anyway.
now I have woken this morning with a sore throat and snotty nose, yay, and its now Jacobs First birthday, poor little guy, to be sick on his birthday
