I agree with the axilla being inaccurate. Unless you really know how to place it.

People are also notorious for misplacing tympanic (ear) thermometers as it actually has to hit the tympanic membrane of the ear for an accurate reading.
My kids had temps that high recently Olive I didn't treat them at that stage and just kept a close eye on them.
When I was working as a nurse (have been a stay at home mum for awhile now) which was awhile ago now if we got a high reading on ear we had to do it the other way. Also GP once told me if you have an ear infection it will give false reading also.

We have a veratemp. It seems ok though I dont know how accurate it is.

we have a vicks 8 second one. cost about $20 and its the best thing I have ever bought. so much so that they are now starting to be used in hospitals.
like a pp said the ear ones can be inaccurate. they are now starting to be banned in childrens wards in hospitals for that reason. paediatricians actually prefer under the arm temps or rectal if they child will allow
