Tooth pushed into gum.....

Iz came home from creche today with her top front tooth pushed halfway into her gum. Creche called me at one point but said she was now fine and they couldn't see anything wrong (whole other thread. ) but anyway just wondering if there is anything we should do tonight?

I will be going to see a dentist tomorrow.

Poor darling, I can't stop crying I feel so sorry for her - she's eating, somewhat tentatively and is telling us it doens't hurt but it must, the gum is a bit red and swollen around it, and it looks like the tooth has moved a little as its gone up. Im really hoping it won't die.

I have no idea that a tooth could be pushed back up! she must have knocked it with some force! Poor little thing. I hope she is ok.

Thanks FJ I didn't know either until a kid at my MG did it ages ago - he pushed all FOUR up :S.... It looks awful like she's broken it in half but it's not.

i would suggest u take her to the dentist as soon as u can too..
my son fell over on a concrete table 4 months ago and actually left his teeth marks in it that how hard it was and i took him to the medical centre but they said his fine... long story short... my son now has two dead front teeth that we r trying to figure out with the dentist but i should of done its straight away

also did u get an accident report from the creche??
poor lil thing it must look alot worse then it feels but id say she isnt really thinking bout it hopefully it stays that way..

The same thing happened to a friend of mine's little girl, the tooth came back out of hte gum over time and there was no permanent damage thankfully. It's a good idea to take her to the dentist though. Baby teeth don't have a root so it's not going to die and that's probably why she doesn't feel any pain.

can i just say this is untrue!!! all teeth have roots otherwise they cant survive, they need blood supply.

darl most definatly see a dentist today, she does have a risk of it dying, that can be delt with, more of a concern would be any damage to the adult tooth above, hopefully there wouldnt be but she will probably need an xray on it, you will need to keep an eye on her over the coming days/weeks to look for signs of it dying...

Thanks everyone Just for future reference if anyone has this happen, I am glad we went to the dentist. He checked it over, she had a bit of bleeding we couldn't see behind it but it's not too bad considering. He took an x-ray and the adult tooth hasn't been damaged, although it may still come out with a white mark on it. We need to watch for a gum pimple thing or any discolouration on the tooth itself over the next 2 weeks before we see him again, and then will go yearly or so I think he said til her adult one comes out. It may or may not drop down from where it is now. She can only eat soft foods for a week or so and is in no pain so far which is lucky otherwise we could give panadol.

Can I just say the dentist we saw was AWESOME with her too, camp as a row of tents and just absolutely gorgeous with her and telling her pink is his favorite colour and that he loves Dora. Best bit is they are about 2 minutes from here as well! Yay!!! She was also amazing and I have to thank Dorothy the Dinosaur for showing kids what happens at the dentist!! Trooper girl.

I feel for you guys because I know what it's like. O smacked one of his front teeth into the side of a bed and I was hysterical when it happened (so much for remaining calm )
Anyway, it happened to us at 6.30am on a Sunday and I wanted a dentist right then and there but of course that wasn't going to happen. I called Nurse on Call and they said to give him panadol if he was in pain and to take him to a Dr/Hossy to be checked over. He was fine and I took him to the Dentist on the Monday and they did an Xray. All was fine and they assured me that he would be fine and that he didn't need it out. We ended up heading back as he got an infection in his gum and was put on ABs for that. I am sure that you will probably take her back a few times as did I (stressheads we are ) because the different stages of it healing etc look terrible.

Anyway babe, not sure if I have been of any help or just rambled but you know where I am if you need me... even to vent

Thanks so much everyone. I rang the dental registrar at the RCH and they said it was a bit of a wait and see game, particularly if there is damage to her adult tooth which won't come out til she is around 7. Basically it may or may not stay where it is, or may return to its normal place. She looks slightly rogish and piratey with it the way it is poor love. The registrar also told me to go and take her to a dentist tomorrow which i will do first thing just to make sure there is no infection etc.

I feel so exhausted after the kids being so sick earlier in the week and a the last few weeks, and now this plus I am just LIVID at creche.

Firstly - why on earth didn't they call DH or my mum, both of whom they have numbers for if she was that hysterical in pain. Secondly you would have to be an absolute idiot to not tell that she had done this. DH said when he noticed the SECOND he got in there he said the girls all tried to basically say there weren't there when it happened and weren't sure what was wrong. they are usually so good with this stuff -they called me the other week when another child accidentally scratched her on the cheek but then this happens and nothing? There is no incident report because they didn't see anything. She tells us that she tripped over and bumped her "lip" on the table - that is when she went hysterical and they couldn't stop her crying. Makes me so sad to think she was SO upset and they didn't call anyone other than me who didn't answer. Arggh will talk to them tomorrow and see what they say but needless to say they will know I am not happy.

My Ds2 has done this; his front tooth was pushed so far up in his gum (it was sitting up near the gum/lip fold!!!!!) they assumed he swallowed it! Thankfully it moved back down into place except for being a bit wonky (not even dead like they prepared us for). Now we wait and see how the adult tooth comes through when it falls out. Then he nearly knocked out the other front tooth so it was practically horizontal to his gum. He moved it back into place instantly and its still there, not even dead! Try not to stress kids teeth as surprisingly resilient I think

oh thats good news... as long as its not causing discomfort and she is herself id be pretty happy too...
my son got a discolouring maybe 3-4 weeks later the back of his teeth are like a dark grey and the front are grey.. so they are pretty much dead... if they dont fall out on their own they wil have to be removed surgically... but i hope ur more relieved now..

Thanks hun, we go back in 2 weeks, then again at the end of the year then yearly until she is 7 or gets her new tooth so it is basically a waiting game. She is super tough and in no pain luckily. xoxo
