Well!! it turned out waaaay worse than i could have imagined
I got all blistered around his scrotum today so I took him to the Dr - who promptly diagnosed HERPES!
I.was.horrified!!!! I feel sooo bad.
DH nor I have ever had a cold sore which is apparently the only way he could have gotten it (if someone with one changed his nappy)...but the only people who have ever changed him are DH, me and my mum changed one nappy last weekend when she was here. I know she gets them so that's the only point of contact I can think of....
I asked them if it's the same as the STI strain...and they said yes - I nearly cried. It's not his fault he's going to have this forever
So then I went to get the script and the pharmacist was shocked it was for such a young baby....and then told me it was $80!!! finally after some phaffing around they had to get it from another pharmacy (we live in the country) and managed to get it put on a 'special script' for me so it brought it down to $35....phew.
Now if you've gotten that far - thanks.
THanks to all of you who have given support, I've had a really crappy day (on top of this) so it made me smile when I got on here. again.
Oh Hun that sure wasn't what you would have been expecting to hear! Don't feel bad about it. You know that it was a completely unfortunate reason why he got it and maybe your Mum was having one just come on if it wasn't obvious that she had one I hope he is feeling better soon and that you don't blame yourself for it or anything.
Awww hun Sorry to hear that. How awful for you as his Mummy to know he has this and it's not his fault. It's not anyone's fault it's unfortunately so common in society.
With herpes, even if you have never had a cold sore doesn't mean you aren't carrying the virus iykwim? So you or your DH could have passed it to him without even knowing you have it yourselves. But you don't need to even think about that. It's one of those things I guess.
I hope your little guy feels better soon hun. Thinking of you after your awful day.
Just caught up with your posts, Kim. Big hugs for your little guy and you. I hope he isn't experiencing any pain now that you've got the tablets into him. So unlucky! But hopefully this will be the only outbreak he gets and that it passes quickly. You probably know this already, but some diet tips for later include giving him plenty of meat, potato and beans and steering clear of nuts, corn and chocolate...
That is very handy! Have you had a google of it to know what to expect with it over the coming years? I have read that some people with it rarely have an outbreak so it may not be a big problem for him, but unfortunately it will be one more thing to add to The Talk when he's older.
