What are these bugs on her head?

I am kinda grossed out right now..DD has had a few darkish spots in her hair lately, it just looked like a bit of dirt.. tonight after her bath i was drying her hair and noticed a couple of bugs in her hair, i pulled them out then saw that there were quite a few more smaller ones right down next to her scalp. Couldnt look anymore because she was starting to get cranky and wriggly, but the ones i pulled off were no more than 2mm long and had a dark head but an almost translucent bottom half with a red spot in the middle. I think the red might have been blood, as there was a tiny red spot on my finger after.

What could they be? We have a dog but he doesn't have fleas. I thought maybe head lice but we haven't been in contact with anyone...my head has been super itchy lately, I just put it down to mozzie bites as there are a couple of little bumps on my head and I've had a few bites on my legs, DD has a few on her arms as well.

Headlice? I remember when my sister had them they looked like that..

yep sounds like headlice, sorry.
If you can have a good look with a torch in natural sunlight, look for small whitish eggs near the scalp, usually behind the ears or nape of neck, they should be stuck pretty tight, if they come off (and look kinda brownish) they are hatched already.
you dont need much contact to catch it, at least you know her hair is clean! (lice only like very clean hair as they can stick to it better!)
also make sure that you check and treat every member in the house too.

oh man..i was hoping it wasn't! I feel terrible...how does a 6 month old get head lice..she would have only been in contact with me, and I know I havent been sticking my head close to anyone.

I'm guessing I can't use any chemicals on her...how do I get rid of them? Will grab some medicated shampoo for me & DF tomorrow. I feel so awful!

with 4 kids ive dealt with a lot of ehad lice try putting conditioner right on the dry hair and getting a lice comb that costs about 1.50 at your local chemist and brush them out do this daily for 14 days. and soak all bedding and towles used, for 12 hours in water as lice breath and then wash with a bit of detol

Yep, definitely sounds like head lice. Conditioner and a really fine comb, hot laundering of all your linen.

My DD had headlice at taht age courtesy of the neighbours grrrrr.

I took her to the chemist who recommeded a product called Lice Blaster. It's really gentle, easy to use and leaves their hair so nice and soft.
