Trying another experiment tonight (damn this rain - its Queensland for christsake, where's the damn sun??!)
Gigi you should be proud.... I've got a GNST - but without boosters for a heavy wetter cos I'm still waiting on them in the post, so I've improvised, and used a booster that I got from FJ and a prefold (folded like a booster) as well... LOL... all covered with a Baby Beehinds Cover... lol
Now... to see if he can actually sleep horizontal.. now THATS the challenge...
Wow Ange congratulations!! All you girlies getting 'in the family way' lol - anyone would think you didn't have nappies to wash, stockings to hyena or a forum to post on!!
Was a nice day here today - WOOT! Managed to get all the flats washed & dried!
Oh PP what a pain - it DOES happen in threes doesn't it?! Our washing machine went on the blink, then the lawnmower & then the vaccum!! Stoopid modern appliances lol.
thanks christy.. i have just finished cleaning out a little -300l fridge that was in my parents shed for the past 3 years lol.. ewwww.
And have sent the rest of the food to MIL's!
OH crap QMab!!! thats my third. I forgot the lawnmower broke 3 weeks ago!
Lawnmower, tv, fridge.... yay i hope that is all and my 3 is over!!!
I got fluffy mail today! My BB order came through - 2 BBB, 1 BBH & I magicall (free!) plus 1 wool cover (my first ) and 2 PUL covers.
They're all in the washing machine (except the wool cover - do I have to prewash that??) so am hoping to put them out on the line tomorrow. I'm always to excited to wash more than once. I usually put them on him for about an hour - then wash them again so at least I've had the fun of using them!
Gudism - i don't have a tap in the nursery either. WHen i know it's nappy change time, my first port of call, is to go into the bathroom and wet/wring out a flannel (then take bilbs to the nursery for a change). If we need more than one flannel, i wet the 2nd flannel with a water sprayer bottle that i keep in the nursery.
when out, i use nature baby care baby wipes, keep them in the nappy bag. Other people take cloth wipes with them, but i'm not that prepared.
Nettie - re night nappies. not so much a rule, as some guidelines. As usual, read up, notice what others use, and adapt it all to what suits your little wriggly person.
Once again, it comes down to thinking about what the nappies comprise of - fabric wise.
a day nappy - your baby is two months old? so maybe day nappies are for up to two hours atm? i don't know what's in your stash, but at that age, i might have had bilbs in a bamboo foldup (6 layers of bamboo) inside a PUL cover.
a day nappy can have a low rise, which doesn't matter too much. But with a night nappy, a high rise is quite desirable.
Day nappies and day covers will be trimmer - this is useful for under clothes.
Night nappies and night covers are bulkier - so expect that onesies, sleeping bags etc will need to be sized up to accomodate this.
If you buy wool knitted covers that do up with drawstrings, you can use bigger sizes, for longer.
PUL and fleece covers MUST fit very well to function. Wool gives you more lattitude, fit is not so important, yet they still stay waterproof (I have no clue why).
a night nappy - often they contain at least DOUBLE the number of absorbent fabric layers. so if a day nappy has six layers of absorbency, a night nappy might have 12+ layers. ANother difference is the outer material - instead of the PUL, some night nappies use an outer of Malden Mills windpro fleece for example - see Kester Kovers AIO (by possum pouches website), bits for bots fleece pockets and aio, honeyboy night nappies (see cherub's kiss and catnaps at wahmnaps website).
individual babies are different too. If you have a young bub who is already waking up every two hours for a feed, maybe you can delay the night nappy, as you might be changing every two hours already.
You might have a light wetter, for whom a boosted fitted DAY nappy is sufficient for now (as a night nappy option).
But to save the bassinet/cot linen washing, i would still suggest the breathable covers (e.g wool and fleece, instead of PUL). SOme people use the PUL no worries at night, again, use what works for you. I'm just a scaredy cat who doesn't take many chances, i want the bulletproof option straight up.
So at two months old, depending on how long your bub sleeps for, and what sort of wetter they are, you may still get away with boosted fitteds (day nappies). I've seen a few cyber posts lately from mums who have newborns who sleep for 12 hours, who wanted to know where to get night nappies in tiny sizes, so we're all different.
If you haven't noticed or looked into night nappies before, here's a few brands to google (i can't put urls here, or else i would = to save you time)
- cute tooshies bamboo delights (not technically a night nappy, but so many layers, i reckon it could be used as a night nappy for a newie). THis is a fitted OSFA.
- snoozywuns aio, on the ozebaby site, look under widdlewuns. no cover needed
- kester kover aio on the possum pouch site - no cover needed.
- wild child night nappies on the wild child site, a fitted sized nappy. needs cover.
- whizz kidz nightz, on the ozebaby site, see under whizz kidz. OSFM Fitted, needs cover
- wombots SNAIO, no cover needed
- bits for bots, not marketed as night nappies, but function as such, two styles, pocket and aio fleece nappies. use malden mills fleece. no cover needed.
- honeyboy night nappies, see cherub's kiss and catnaps (on the wahmnaps site) - fitteds, need cover.
- cuddlesncloth - i think they have a bamboo night nappy
- caterpillar cuties - another one to check
- very baby simply nights at the weewuns website (fitted sized nappy) needs cover
- bubblebubs good night sleep tight fitted sized nappy (BB site
- sandman night nappies on the sustainable hemp products site or i've gone blank, what is the site with blossom in the title? argh!!! baby blossom??? sandmans are sized fitteds, you need a cover over them to make them waterproof.
Another option, especially at the start, is to get a good night cover, and put a thirsty trifold inside it, mazalicious on wahmnaps makes great trifolds. If one trifold is not enough, try adding a booster (not another trifold) for your next attempt. If that is not enough, then try two trifolds.
a trifold is a rectangle that you fold in three
a booster is a long skinny pad (no folding)
A very easy care and simple (in the middle of the night simple) cover option (for over a fitted) is flongies. These look like polar fleece long pants, but have a hidden shorts layer of microfleece. Throw them in the washing machine - too easy, dry in a flash. Look like pj bottoms, but actually function to keep baby dry. I've seen some sm size ones on sale at wahmania on the peep-o store of late.
Night nappies involve DOUBLE the expensive fabric, so cost more than day nappies. This is an investment so involves more angst than buying day nappies i reckon. If you can get yourself to a MCN meetup, to see other mum's night MCN stashes, see these brands IRL, that might help you to know what you're dealing with, narrow the field a bit. Baby expos held all around Australia, are another place to see MCN IRL.

Falguni - congrats - i totally understand you not shouting it from the rooftops if you've had early miscarriages previously - totally understandable. All my fingers and toes crossed for you, that THIS time is less eventful.
Gudism - i'm confused? you say you don't need anymore fluffy mail, but some posts you say you're scrambling around for something to put on bubs for night? so i thought that meant you needed night nappies still? where is the emoticon for confused?
Pink Palance and Cookie Monster - commiserations about the appliances dying on you. I am going to sound ancient here (and hell yes, i am) but i feel very nervous each time i buy electrical appliances that say "12 month warranty" which is the norm now, cos i think to myself, theoretically, that means you MIGHT have to buy ALL your electrical appliances on an ANNUAL basis, as none of them are under warranty longer than 12 months. Can you imagine how much $$$$ it would add up to if you made a list of every electrical item you own? Esp the big ones like fridge/freezer, washing machine, telly - let alone all the other ones. THis really scares me. I don't mind buying a new electrical item if i think - i'll get 10 years out of it - but for just 12 months!!! that's SOOOO expensive. Maybe it will end up more cost effective to rent electrical items in the future. Scary thought.
We haven't heard from LimeSlice or SParrowgal for a bit.
GUDISM - your heavily boosted GNST sounds great. I tried one of those on bilbs once (literally just put it on her for a minute), not a great fit for her so we didn't go down that path - but loads of people swear by them.
FOr boofers of night nappies, i love the pull up style of cover e.g the Disana woollen pullup soaker or the Dancing Bears pullup fleece covers. ANd the knitted longies with the drawstrings are great for boofy nappies too. and flongies - just elastic waists. (all great for doing up in dim light, whilst half asleep yourself! no snaps to match up, no aplix to match up, just pull up and over.
PINK PALACE - i've been thinking about your predicament (non MCN friendly dh) and all i can think of, is leave him with pre-stuffed pockets like BumGenius - that's aplix so does up similar to a sposy. With a grumpy dh, i would stick to the simplest MCN - and big man hands are a bit harder to negotiate front and side snaps (until the said dh is pro-MCN and willing to work it out - not hard, but takes the "right" attitude to make it all end happily i reckon).
so something like an aplix doing up pocket - would mean ONE thing only for Grumpy DH to put on, and the doing up bit is super simple.
If you stuffed a number of pocket nappies while at home, to leave for him to use during the time you are away earning the bacon, surely he coudln't buck up at that!
Do you have any aplix pockets? or am i suggesting something that doesn't match with what you have bought (please don't hate me!!!).
Pockets are dead simple, just got to go look up how old your bub is, to make sure i'm suggesting an age appropriate thang. Well, even if you have a tiny bub (i suspect you have a pretty new one), bits for bots fleece pockets - she makes both snap and aplix style - would be terrific. Drybees fleece pockets would be great too, pity they're no longer being sold in Aust. I must find out who else makes fleece pockets. (apart from the extra yummy Starbunz animal fleece pockets like at darlingsdownunder - too cute).
great score on the xmas tree.
Trinity - hoping your bub is on the mend still.
Melham - hope your dh keeps an eye on you, til all this feeling woozy business passes.
Ryco (at target) have a new carryall nappy bag style out, improvement on what they had when i needed a nappy bag. looksmuch more functional, but not sure it's small enough to have fitted in teh little basket under the stroller - nevertheless, they have much improved their nappy bag designs.
i also saw the "lockable" nappy buckets at a normal Target today - before i had only seen them at the Baby Target store. Double the price of normal nappy buckets, but there are four things you push down to stop toddlers taking the lid off the bucket. We used this to take nappies back and forth from hospital recently, works like a charm cos bucket CAN"T spill in the car boot.
Our new childcare centre - had an orientation visit today - they are very bf friendly and very MCN friendly too, very nice to find that out. So far, that's the difference i've noticed between our previous CC (for profit) and this one (community one). Same cost to me, but run on different philosophies.
Ange - congrats!!! huge hugs coming our way! Hope it is all fine and dandy for you and your blob
Mel - are you STILL here?? When'sthat VBAC happening then? ooh how exciting!!
Maz - Did Nik finish the readathon? Let me know how many books he read so I can transfer the money for him
I bought sposies last week for the fist time in 5 months!! NR just wasn't going away, kept flaring up overnight, so bought a small pack of sposies...all good now and back in the good stuff
Don't know how much I will be around, having a pretty hard time here atm...dealing with everything is proving harder than I thought, and apparently I am offending people speaking my mind here and trying to get it out, so dont want to post too much about it (dont want to get reported again!! lol)
Hi all
Don't know how much I will be around, having a pretty hard time here atm...dealing with everything is proving harder than I thought, and apparently I am offending people speaking my mind here and trying to get it out, so dont want to post too much about it (dont want to get reported again!! lol)
Anyhow! If I'm not myself, that is why
.
WHAT!!! i find it hard to beleive you could offend anyone alexis!!, please come back and chat in here!!! we love ya!!!
Gigi - sorry to confuse you!!! I have four night nappies so I don't think I need more (doesn't mean I don't WANT more.. lol) but three of them were wet, and the GNST I was waiting on for more proper boosters - so didn't really count that... mind you, we had a blow out this morning when he woke up - yup everything was wet!! DAMN!!!!! It didn't leak through the legs, leaked up through the top, so I can sorta assume that I packed too much crap into it, created a space up the top and doodle moved when peeing and sprayed everywhere.... ahh.. the trouble with boys and their doodles... I think its a fairly short rise as well, so that doesn't help, where as his Snoozywuns are a really great rise height.. (did I say that right? lol)
LS - are you serious?!!? Just keep coming in and posting what ever you want. Seriously, its a forum for people to express their own opinions, and if you can't do that, then why the hell is it called a public forum?!!?!? I love your opinions on all types of things, so please don't stop.. and don't know when the VBAC is happening, no movement yet. Think I'll still be pregnant in December..
Ash - how did your experiment go??
Nettie - I don't prewash the covers, only when they have been peed in and get a little stinky... lol.. but I'm pretty lazy.... (speaking of which I have another load of nappies to put on!!! )
Off for a massage this afternoon - hope it doesn't bring on labour (got too much left to organise - can't have baby yet... )
WOHB: Probably the magicall that I dropped him off at Grandma's in...
hey there can i join in??
ive been popping by ur thread the last few days.. i put dd in cloth nappies about 2 mths ago now (shes almost 10mnths) because she developed sensitive skin.. was thinking about it much earlier but we didnt have the start up cost but when she started with the rashes from disposable i started with flats and built up from there.. now mostly she wares the towelling flats during the day at home, BBH at night and ive got a mix of itti bittis and pea pods for going out i am looking to get more itti bittis though because ive found the older the pea pods get the more they are leaking
looking forward to getting to know you all!!!
WOHB : shes still in her BBH with fluffy cover coz she fell back asleep before i could change her lol..
nonie! Welcome to the fold. I love my ittis, infact i think i want more.....
Alexis- did i miss you offending someone? i always miss the good shiart. bah, comeback love and vent away. That's why we are here. Seriously. If you are having a rough time, don't leave, pop in more often. There isn't much fluffy mail can't cheer up!
Thanks all for your good wishes.
Gigi- i like to use when i am a little confused. Which is quite often! lol
Oh i meant to say, i got the coolest longies with little non slip feet in them from BabySoftLandings. They're called woolybottoms and they are awsome!
WOHB? urm, i've forgotten. i'll guess a minky blueberry OSFM. yup, that's definatley it.
