PP to carry over from the last thread, don't mind you discussing your DD's rash here at all - it is peripherally related to nappies - at least why you can't use your beautiful stash! Just wish we could offer a bit more help, the poor little thing must be soooo uncomfortable.
And BTW the Bear is my DH ..... so he's a bloke.... and a damn fine cook. although I wish he would hurry up on the computer in the other room - the Bill is on pause until he gets back! LOL
Hi - I thought I would join this thread and try and keep up with you all. I have just started using MCN - so far I have hautes pockets and I find them great.
Just wondering the best thing to use for a red rashy bottom (DS is teething) - I want something I can get easily from the supermarket or chemist, but the instructions I got with the nappies says to not use nappy rash creams.....very confused. What does everyone else use?
If you find you need to use something to help with the rash, use liners in your nappies, so some microfleece or disposable liners. You don't want the nappy rash creams coming in contact with your MCN as it builds up & stops them being as absorbent as they should be.
You can use creams with MCN as long as you use liners. Microfleece or disposable work well! Any barrier cream or oil based cream will reduce the absorbency of your nappy, and is a pain in the ar$e to scrub off. (ETA: Snap FJ!)
HTH.

PP - have you considered that it's a reaction to the penicillin?? I get a skin reaction to some penicillins which is why I thought of it. You'd have to check with the Dr...
WOHB - BBB with booster (nighttime). Hmmm... that reminds me. I must wash/lanolise my new wool cover & longies!
oh you girls just reminded me of another thing I have to do...liners! dame it!!!

Vic - atleast your getting to watch telly...grrrr im in the sweat shop tonight Ange when you have some time next week *give me a call* (in my best secret Homer simpson voice)
I really think Ihave to stop buying material ATM..im running out of room
PP, this might sound silly, but when you say she's off all dairy, but is on formula........what sort of formula is she having? Does she have a known reaction to dairy products? It sounds like quite a bad rash, and is obviously distressing you and your DD. I personally would be going back to the GP, and if they can't give you any definitive answers, then I would be asking for a derm or paed referral. It sounds like it's being going on for some time, surely someone can help you out with it. You could specualte for ages about all the things it may or may not be, you really need someone in the know to have a proper look at it. I hope it gets sorted out soon for you, it must be so awful for you to see your baby like that
PP, keep us up to date when you do find out what it is.
Karla, If you need something fast and dont have any liners try opsite flexifix. It is that stuff that they use when you have a drip to create a barrier. it is around $4 per metre but it is worth it, as you only take it off when it is pooey, or it starts peeling off.
Janie - the dr said to put her back onthe formula she was organially on which yes is a dairy based formula... i questioned this and she said that she didnt react on it and so she needed to rule out all the other foods she has had in the past 6 weeks or so. I know it sounds crazy to me too.
I will see if i can get an appointment tomorrow for her.
FJ/Suse - i have her in sposies but i might go buy some microfleece like you said. i have dispoable ones but i dont like the way they bunch inside... not sure how to stop that.
Maz - great stash! lol! and great variety of patterns too!! how funny we have designated shelved for our nappies like a trophy room hehe!
my stash is so pathetic i am ashamed to show it off haha let me get back to you after tax time!!!!!!!
sorry i am so hopeless at keeping up with you all!!
must be the time for rashes dd has an infected nappy rash eeeek shes got some perscribed cream for her atm which seems to be helping but i cant put her in sposies because shes so sensitive it makes her rash bleed.. not fun..
with liners i just use the johnsons disposable.. not as good for the environment but they are pretty cheap and easy for someone looking for some liners to just use whilst bub has nappy rash and u needa use cream..
Ooh Maz, that's what I call a STASH! Ended up watching tv until like midnight which is very unusual for me... usually on the computer!!
God I love my bumwears, really really - we're going out today & last night we had almost no MCN & no way am I lugging wet flats around, so something silly like 10pm last night I hang 4 inserts & pockets near the heater & they are all dry & ready to go!
I need my squirt. I really need my squirt. I really really need my squirt. Just had to scrape off a yucky poo of one of the gorgeous snoozywuns.... not noice at all!!!!!
WOHB: Bum G and a gorgeous pair of longies (ran out of pants for him - cos I do need to wash things OTHER than nappies - and thought I would test them out to see if they are too itchy for him.. he looks cute!!! Hmm.. I should take a pic)
Pics of stashes.. hmmm... no... maybe I won't... can't even see how many I would have of fitted newborn nappies, shelf is far too full... lol
Oh, and did everyone else notice that I HAVEN'T had the baby yet.... dooo dahhh.. doooo dahhhh
Thats it, im gonna try & take a pic of my stash today too. The battery in the carmera is flat though, but maybe if I am fast I will get a shot or two before switches off LOL.
PP, I really feel for your DD.. The rash onher face looks so nsaty. I would be getting a second opinion from another GP.
Seriously the idea of removing Dairy but remaining on the dairy based formula is the most stupid thing I have ever heard. Doesn't matter that she didn't react to it before. If DD has developed an allergy then ALL dairy should be removed in order to rule it out. Also, Just so you know, apparently it can take up to THREE weeks for the cows milk protein to be gone from your system once ALL dairy intake has stoped. So in order to asses that properly she needs to be off dairy completly for at LEAST 3 weeks before making any kind of call on that one.
Vegemite as a preservitive in it that some can react too, so I would maybe cut that out for a little while too.
Also, don't rule out the possiblity of it being a allergy to a food product. But I seriously think (given the history) that its a reaction to the immunisation. It all ties in nicely. I would be seeking a second opnion & also asking for a referal to a dermatoligist or allergiest. POssibly even a natropath may be able to help.
Glenn gets a rash on his face that isn't as nasty looking as your DD & only occours around his mouth, but I have so far seen 3 Drs about it & no one has been able to fix it. 1st Dr just fobbed me off, the 2nd thought it was a staf infection, I treated accordingly with no difference, the 3rd gave me a fungle cream, again with no difference. I am thinking of looking for a natropath.
I would do some research on what reactions to the vaccine could look like.
Off to prewash some bamboo! actually no I lie, I will do that later but now I can't help but go google what I just told PP to look into LOL.
PP, I have to say I agree with FJ. Keeping her off all dairy, but giving her formula that contains dairy........well it just doesn't make sense. If they really think it's an allergy problem then I would be asking to see an allergist to diagnose it properly. In the meantime, try the microfleece liners, they're great at keeping the bum dry!
