well I kinda just forced myself into cleaning up the sewing room. The boys have been sleeping with their beds pushed together so they arelaying across the beds rather then as you nomally would. But they had pulled all the sheets of & rather then making the 2 beds I pulled them out & put the spare double in their room. Giving them more floor space & then putting one of the singles in the spare/sewing room with the other partly pulled apart under it. So now I also have more floor space in my room.
But to swap the beds over, meant I had to tidy all the material on the bed! LOL

So many nappy idea's after seeing what materials I have.

Thank you to Sam & LS for the hints on the crochet patterns. I've found 2 free ones that I'll give a whirl once I get the energy!

Sam - my bad. I think I'm the main culprit for the consecutive posting... I just got sooo excited! Will edit next time - I promise!

WOHB - Orange BBB & Blue wool cover. Can't wait til the weather warms up a bit and I can put him in the longies & bought! They don't have feet and I'm afraid his little legs will get cold in just socks & the longie... he wears about 3 layers at night because we get frosts here (brrrr).

Lol FJ at you rediscovering your materials!

CUTE longies (and kids!) Ness and Mel!

Janie, I have a thang for yellow nappies too, and also wonder why we don't have more! I've always thought the GK Minkytimes Honeysuckle looks nice!

I'm fairly over our Magicalls, not going the distance of Riv, they need to be boosted, and dh often forgets to boost them. Might grab some more ittis or BP's or...hmm what easy large nappies should I go for...

FJ, I need to clean my study/sewing room too, but I dont have any fabric witing to sew

    Maz :woot: on the rolling!

Sal I bet you are already enjoting your bub while I write this though!

Mel (Gudism) hang in there hun, she will come when she is ready. She is playing the watched pot never boils game. Start writing lists of what you want to do before she is born and she will come.

Ness Annika looks so cute in that pic! Sarah pulls the same face in her pics too

Gigi Hun we all have those times. I often take things the wrong way. Dont worry, we love you to bits. Let me know if there is anything I can do.

I so hope our tax cheques arrive tomorrow! I am being so impatient! Must breathe and take it as it comes. I swear I must have a nappy stealer! Either that or I am getting realy good at washing enough for 1 day at a time! I have taken the swaddlebees out of our stash because they just dont work for us and have been washing everything as it is used (I am trying to catch up on the washing) and I only have 10 clean dry nappies and 1 in the nappy bucket. Maybe I need to check the car boot. I think I have a couple in the washing machine atm. maybe no one is stealing my nappies. Maybe I am doing so well with my small rotation that I am only using sposies at night (NEED NIGHT NAPPIES!) and getting them washed and dried in time atm. I am putting them in with the colours and getting a fair bit done.

    Hey girls!

I am only new to MCN, and cloth nappies in general (used the terry squares as spew rags when DD was young, but that was all - bought my first MCNs and covers at the Brissie Expo, so only been using them for a couple of weeks, part-time).

I have been lurking in your thread for a while, and have found it rather informative, but now I have some questions for you, and I hope you can help me!

    1) When making microfleece liners, what size do you make them? I thought I read somewhere that for a large kid (DD is about 10.5-11kg), to make them 10 x 30cm. So I made some this size, but then this afternoon, when I used one for the first time, it didn't seem very wide in her BG AIO - and it wasn't up to the job when she pooed in it later! I later lay the same size on a IB, and it was wide enough for that, but then also didn't seem like it would be wide enough for a BBB....do I need to make some of different widths, or what?

    2) With the BG inserts, with the snaps in them.....do you place the snaps in a certain place? I can't find anything on the internet about it, but to me it would seem that if the insert is unsnapped, then it could be painful for her? I think I come up with different reasons for its position everytime I stuff the pocket, and then they end up in the front, the back, facing her, away from her - I usually put both the liner and the doubler in, and have the doubler closer to her...do you think it even matters? And if it does matter where they go, what do you reckon?

    3) I have been sick for the last 2 weeks, and am extremely tired (but wide awake at this time of night for some reason!), and in all of my brilliance made a bunch of liners from red microfleece, and then threw them in the wash for their first wash with the nappies DD wore today, and when I pulled them out of the wash, the BG inserts were both a lovely shade of pink, and the pocket is a very pale shade of pink. Do you think that it will effect the absorbancy of the nappy at all, or not make any difference? Logic tells me that it shouldn't matter, but then I am very tired, and have had some champagne (Dh finally finished some assignment for work that took forever, and if he didn't do it can lose his job, so celebrating a bit), so thought I would seek the wisdom from you smarty pantses...do you think they will be ok? Or should i do something to them before i use them again?

    Thanks!

    Hi Ali

I cut my liners to suit the nappies we use most regularly, ie, wide crotch. If they are too bug for the nappy I fold them to fit.

BG inserts: I have felt the nappy with the insert in and it really doesn't seem to did in when I am puttingmpressure on it. the snaps are also in a location that wont have pressure on them, as having girls I put the snaps at the back. This way the sanps are over her bum crack and she cant feel them. If I was using the booster folded down to the medium or small size then the girls would need the absorbency at the back anyway. for boys you would put the higher absorbency at the front.

Dye run should not cause absorbency issues.

When buying microfleece for liners it is best to buy a coulour that will show up any irregularities in baby's wee. I personally steer clear of red and pink, and dark colours in general. I prefer to use white or pale blue as as these colours show up any irregularities that need to be noticed IYKWIM. When Em was dehydrated it was easy to see the ketones againt white but if she had a pink liner I wouldn't have seen them.

    Thanks Ali!

Seems I wasn't really thinking at all when I went to spotlight - I was thinking of getting yellow, but it was at the bottom of the pile, and was holding Emy, so just got what was on top....oh well, quess I'll have to just go back and buy some more - I'm sure J will be very impressed!

Thanks for your theory on the BG insert - I kept thinking that if she were to lay down on her back then she would feel it....doesn't seem like it would be very comfortable to me...but she hasn't seemed to mind, so I'll just keep doing it that way!

Oh, and another question - if a pregnatnt friend had mentioned in passing that they were thinking of using cloth, but hadn't heard of MCN, and was just going to use the old fashioned squares, would you give them some MCN for a baby shower (first baby, hasn't ever heard of the MCN before)? Or is that rude? I know people give sposies at baby showers, assuming that mum will use them, but what if mum is set on using cloth? Or even just trying cloth, to see how they like them? I can't afford much, so can't afford a trial pack, so it would just be like maybe 2 BBB and 2 PUL covers...?

Nettie, do you have any babylegs / huggaluggs?

i put bilby in socks, babylegs THEN longies so she is toasty - and buy the longies too long on purpose.

SKITTLEBUB - wishing you well in your labour hon!!

just got email from baby beehinds consultant, the minky aio's are for sale now, but cannae find any product specs on them, and from teh photo, i can't even tell if they are front or side snappers. No detail on what the absorbency layers are made of, how the absorbency is configured, number of layers, if there is hidden PUL layer under those gorgy coloured minky outers. Can't find anything on the BB website - does anyone here have one or seen one, to know? COlours are gorgeous.

Nessa - Annika looks very cute in her pink longies.

    Welcome Allipralli
did you know you can buy Trial Packs and Gift Packs that are made up of LESS than you are already talking? LIke you mentioned 2 Baby beehinds covers and nappies, well you can get Nappy Trial Packs that are ONE nappy and ONE cover for example.

places to look for these: babysoftlandings (e.g the Night Trial Pack), sustainable hemp products (nappy and soaker packages for all sizes), baby blossom (i think they have trio packages) and the one i thing is the best idea (but maybe more of a GROUP present than for a single person cos of the cost, the Nurture Nappy Stash at Nurture Nappies. That one is really good, cos it has ONE of each style of nappy for the new parents to try. eg fitted and cover, pocket, aio etc. A few friends putting in for that one would be a lovely gift.

there are heaps of packages where you buy 12 of one brand, one type, but it's easier to work out what you do and don't like about MCN, if you get the opportunity to try out a few styles first (before committing to 12 of something).

STIFF LINERS; a while back people were mentioning about stiff liners, well i have found (in last few weeks), that washing the liners that are just wet ones, using them again, they are much softer. They disintegrate faster than i realised, but at least they're softer.

MAZ - congrats on Mateauz rolling - that's lovely to hear!

WOTBB: whizz kidz nightz with Gigi-made lavender bumjumper (made using a Nappycino link to a bumjumper making tutorial).

Ali, I would be thrilled to get MCN as a baby shower gift if it was me. I think she would love them. she may find them way more practical then the flats too. Most people that start with flats eventually find MCN. Some that start with sposies find MCN too! We have less issues with MCN that we did with sposies.

Gigi, are you OK hun? that is the second short post from you in 1 week!
