Nettie I use curash powder too and it works well as long as the rash isn't really angry like that nasty teething rash. Then I use flushable liners and slap on the barrier cream.

Also I don't think you'd need to use anything else besides the wool longies. Reccon they would be plenty warm enough but if you want to use the hugalugs then leaving a gap should be fine.

Jodi, you could do both Longies and soaker - Soaker when it is hot, longies when it is cold.

I am going Nappy Shopping tomorrow!!! :woot:!!! I have to get DH to sit down with me and help me choose. He wants to see what I am getting so I don't get too much girly stuff. But what he forgets is that we will get a baby bonus for #3 can anyone guess what I will spend that on? I will be in heaven buying nappies tomorrow! and for spending ove $500 I will also get a 10% off voucher!

For those interested, I sit on about 5 to 6 degree MAX during the day, funnily enough though it only drop to 2 or 3 in the nights, occasionally I hit 0 or just below at night.
I learnt today that while my Max day temps don't get much higher then my min, my min temp is actually warmer then down the mountains minimum temps. Apparently Richmond (So willow I am guessing it safe to say Penrith also) actually get colder as your minimum temps at night then I do. Not sure why. Its just that during the day I peek at 5 LOL.

Mel - what does that cream have in it? I've heard that you can't use an oil-based or zinc-based cream with the MCN's - so I wonder what it's made of?

Be curious to know if it's very effective when you get around to using it... after you've had that Rabbit - of course!

P.S - FJ : I live in a valley - we get frost here a lot and our 'cold' is cold!!

Nettie - this is what I got:-

    Baby Bottom Better Balm
This light but protective balm is petroleum free and perfect for use with modern cloth nappies as it will not cause a build up on your nappies. Made with three healing herbs plus Calendula, which is an anti-fungal flower, it has excellent healing properties and helps keep baby's bottom dry by providing a barrier from moisture. Use for urine contact and yeast infected nappy rashes as well as cradle cap. Very effective and this tub will last you ages! Gentle and perfume free

Wow FJ, that sure is cold! I hope you have a good heater, or a fire or something. How do you get your nappies to dry? Thanks goodness it'll be warmer when your new little man arrives! I think I should stop complaining about our cold weather

Willow, I second Sam's idea of using the dettol rinse a couple of times. Between that and some sun (when you get it ) I think it should be alright. Please don't bin it!

Maz, what are talking about, crazy woman, there's no bl00dy sun in Melbourne! PMSL! Well there is ATM I guess, but it won't last long Do you get really cold nights where you are, or is it not too bad?

Nettie - babylegwarmers are worn on the legs. the nappy is worn on the bottom.
    so no wicking problems.
If there is a gape from bottom of longies (or trousers in the daytime) to the socks, i use the baby legwarmers on bilbs from KNEE to ANKLE - so nowhere near the nappy - there is plenty of thigh between the nappy and the baby legwarmers
Does that make it any clearer?

    about nappy rash creams

there are PETROLEUM based nappy rash creams (not reccommended for use with MCN) if you do, some MCN warranties will be invalid for example.

there are NON-PETROLEUM based nappy rash creams

I try the non-petroleum based creams first. If they are not enough, i try the petroleum based creams as a last resort, but WITH a liner, so the cream ends up on the LINER not the NAPPY.

great quick dry ai2's just stocked up at bits for bots (front snappers). Many say hemp as the absorbent fabric but there is an option at the bottom of each entry to say "Bamboo upgrade for $2.50" or something similar.

RE: Babylegs and Longies: Like Gigi I only use the legs up to DD's knees at night under her longies (she gets around in her cot so I dress her at night so she will be warm enough without any blankets) and have no probs with wicking...

Who ever was asking about the front leaking night nappy and longies combo....Just in case nobody mentioned it...when was the last time you lanolised the woolies? Just an idea, dont know it is any use whatsoever ...just ignore me otherwise! lol

Ali - good work on the tax!! enjoy your shopping lucky duck!

Nettie - if you like th calendula, see if you can get a beeswax based one (not petroleum) lik tinderbox, dont know if it will actually make a difference but it is the one I use and it is beeswax based and I dont use liners and have had no ill effects on my nappies works like a charm!

Willow - did you figure out where and how he leaks through everything at night? do you have a night nappy or just use bulked up day nappies?

Well, all good here atm...nothing nappy related to report really....been able to get lots of sewing done though thank god for that, so things should be up ad running really soon!! Sew excited!! (Just for you Suse lol)
Bump lived up to her name today while we were out...took 3 nasty falls , twice on her forehead, now hse has a MASSIVE bruise about the width of her eye covering the whole height of her forehead Was a bit worried, but she is standing and balancing fine adn really ahppy adn energetic tonight, so no concussion!! lol poor little bugger

Mel - Have you got down on your hands and knees and scrubbed the kitchen floor yet?? I swear it works.... Hope you are feeling ok hun

Maz - The midwives loved your covers, they'd never seen one like it before. I refused to use those plastic snib things, they're pathetic & dont cover a nappy properly
