PP - pray tell: where do I find Shannon's longies pattern? I'm trying to find a good longies/soaker pattern that is simple and doesn't use 50 types of needles or complicated stitches...

Will also ask in the granny knitting section!

AnnaBelle - from someone who has been a student of MCN for the last few months, here is my advice: Buy a couple of different types (All in One - AIO; Pocket; All in two - AI2; Prefold & cover) to test them out. AIO & AI2's take ages to dry, pockets need inserts (that can take a while to dry - but only half the time of AIO's), prefolds are fiddly but work well on newborns (if you've got a good cover - the secret to prefolds!). You will get the gist for what are good brands by discussions on this thread. Personally I have (and like):

Baby Beehinds
Blueberry
Green Kids
Happy Heiny
BumGenius
Prefolds (all sorts!)
Cushie Tushie Minkee (don't like the other sort very much)

For night nappies: Good Night Sleep Tight (GNST - by Bubblebubs) and Sandmans (by Nappy Chappies) are good with a wool cover (instead of PUL which the normal ones are made of) or longies (woollen pants). You have to 'lanolise' the wool to make it contain the wee which means soaking it in lanolin (available from the nappy suppliers or the chemist as 'Lanisoh' nipple cream). HTH...
