Maz, only 1 of them was for a customer. 25 Cushies arrived, 24 for me, 1 for a customer I have sorted them and put them in the crates. I dont usually do much prewashing, I know that these have been washed a few times before sewing so I know they will take a bit to begin with but they do last for the girls. I always fold and snap the nappies as small as they go, so NB size, and then I was like, well that wont be for at least 10 months

Oh and Maz, please stop making me cry! I know u love me! It is definitely not implantation though. Next month, next month.

I wont be on much tomorrow, if I can help it. I have to make birthday cakes for Em. I picked up the mixes from the health food shop today and have to have at least one done for tomorrow night, and 2 for sunday. i also need to do some knitting sorry Ness

WOSB, Cushie tushie caramel minky with added bamboo booster and Ali soaker
WOEB, Cushie tushie baby blue minky with added bamboo booster and LochNessMadness fleece cover. i NEED to get all my knitting done! I have 1 and a half pairs of longies and a soaker to do for swaps before I can do my own

ETA: My contact at the temp firm couldnt get in contact with her contacts at the CBA due to major meetings today (The job has something to do with home loans, so the meeting were probably about the hype with the interest rates), will find out tomorrow.

    Thanks PinkPalace

I am thinking now abut buying about 6 bumgenius nappies in size 3???
I can get 6 for $160 is that a good price???
Does that mean all I need to buy are the inserts??? $7.00 each
Is there are cheaper way to do the inserts?? Can you just buy that microfleece stuff from spotlight to insert into the nappy???

With these bumgenius nappies do I need to buy a cover???
What age does this size 3 last from (it says 7-35 punds) do you think that this one size fits all compromises how well it fits the younger baby???
I am thinking of going a combo of dispsables/ prefolds and then some of these bumgenius nappies??

What about pocket ones - do you recommend any brands??
So sorry to just ask and ask questions grateful for any firm suggestions.
    Anna
Anna, if you go to the ozclothnappies website (it has dot org but no au on the end) you will find a great link called FAQ (Freq asked questions). Reading that section is a wonderful intro for a newbie.

a fitted nappy needs a waterproof cover
a pocket nappy - majority have a waterproof outer (so no cover)
an all in one or all in two nappy - all have waterproof outer (so no cover)

the peapods are a POCKET nappy (waterproof outer so no cover needed).

the Bumgenius are currently made as
    - sized All in ones (no cover needed)
    - one size fits all pocket nappy (no cover needed, and sold WITH an insert)

Microfleece is a fabric you buy from SPOTLIGHT to make
    - nappy liners (lay inside a fitted nappy to keep bottom dry)
    - as the inner for pocket or aio nappies (to keep bottom dry)
Microfleece is not absorbent, so you don't make inserts/boosters out of it.

For inserts, boosters etc, you need ABSORBENT fabric, e.g bamboo, hemp, which spotlight do not sell (we wish they did!!!).

Go to nappycino website *just google for it* and you'll see a great DIY section, DIY Sewing Nappies, DIY Knitting MCN covers, all sorts of really practical help.

I would recommend you buy a Mixed Package, so you get to try
    - a pocket nappy
    - a fitted and cover
    - a AIO
Nurture Nappies, Darlings Downunder and Baby Blossom are three MCN websites that have these. Until you know what is out there, and what you like to use, what suits your bub, it's a lottery to buy bulk of products you don't know yet. MCN is real "proof is in the pudding" type of stuff. Ya gotta try it out on your bub before you know what end is up. So easy to get carried away with cheap deals and pretty fabrics.

it's alot to get your head around isn't it? don't worry, it's common to feel a bit overwhelmed at the start, you'll get there.

WOTBB: dh did the night nappy ensemble, prolly a whizz kidz nightz and a woolly soaker. i didn't think dh would like the woollies cos of the drawstring (big man hands) but he thinks they are great.

Suse, the ONLY pale coloured woolly bilby has, is a natural coloured DIsana pullup - only cos the coloured ones weren't being sold in Aust when i bought ours! I would LOVE to dye it purple!!! How is Mr Chirpy doing?

Alioops - i don't know all the right abbreviations, but i hope you are able to conceive soon, i know how bad you want this.
Happy birthday on Saturday for Emma!

Maz - so did all the sewing this week help? did it make you feel betterer?

Christy - once i worked out the type of nappies that suit bilby, so much temptation just WENT OUT THE DOOR. cos i would get on this thread, people would mention sales about brands i know don't suit bilbs, so immed - no more temptation. It focussed me (working out what suits her).

i wonder if there is/needs to be a TOILET TRAINING MCN thread? Like when bilby gets into TT and i start being obsessed by MCN trainers, where do i post about that? Or is here the place? At the moment, i just look, really shouldn't buy until she starts, so i know which size to buy.

Pink Palace - what sort of wool did you make your shorties out of? was it 100% or majority wool? which ply? I'm racking my brains to think why your shorties are not waterproof.
Did the lanolin all dissolve? How long did you leave the shorties soaking in the solution?
I actually saw 100% wool on sale for something crazy like $3 tops per skein, big w or kmart, somewehre like that, i was amazed. i thought only acryllic wool was that cheap.

FJ - what's the latest on your LlamaJama longies?

gig i- they are 100% wool 12 ply. I think it is a nappy absorbancy problem... as you could seriously squeeze wee outr if you tried from the nappy - i guess the soaker can only take so much.

itti Bitti (so I know what all the fuss is about!)
Another wool cover (the BB one doesn't fit so well anymore)
Another PUL cover (Motherease rikki probably)
    More minky!!!

    Any suggestions??

Gigi - thank you for your advice - I think I am getting it!!

I guess you just need to find the website that explains it best - then the penny drops a bit !! baby beehinds was quite clear in their explanation of things so i dont feel as dumb as i did before.

    Many thanks

Well i went to talk to CC about Ashley starting next week and had the CLOTH talk!
At first the manager was hesitant and asked me to buy disposables then i spoke to the director and she is Pro-cloth and said it is fine.
    Their policies are though:

Staff do not rinse, scrape or clean solied Cloth nappies - they will be placed in a bag the same way they come off bubs bum.
THey said if the pop will shake off and doesnt need to be touched they will attempt this but any contact is not happening!

Is this the same with most of your cc?

    WOHB one of the above

I would say they dont dispose of the poo they would just roll it up in the nappy and throw itin the bin!

Gigi, LJ are going nicely. I haven't needed to wash or soak anything yet as I bought spray lanolin as well so not sure if the new ones will run but its ok if they do as its a solid colour.
Isla really likes the new ones.

PP, I wouldn't expect, would actually insist that the CC workers just roll up & bag my cloth nappies as is. I would rather deal with it later at home, that way I know it was done right LOL.
I would however ask them how they deal with poo in a sposie, point out that its illegal to toss poo in the bin

lol - you girls want me to be thrown out for arguing befor dd even starts! lol
BUt i would say this is what they are doing. I had a sneak peak and none of the other bubs baskets had cloth so i am happy they will accomodate me! would hate to have to go through the whole search for a day care centre again!
