Does anyone think it would be bad for me to soak my boosters (so nothing with elastic or PUL) in nappy sand for abit?
I have no way of doing a real strip wash as I don't have hot water inthe laundry & when I tried filling the machine with hot myself it just didn't seem to do the job. Isla nappies stink really bad as soon as she does a little wee.
I think they need a good freshing up. None have seen sunlight for awhile now as I simply don't get enough sun over the washing line to be worth hanging it there at the moment. They don't dry outside as the air is just too cold so I don't bother any more. I just hang them inside.

So will I be nutts to do a "traditional" nappy soak?

I would go for it FJ, but I'm no expert, so don't trust me! I semi-regularly soak my flats in Napisan, because really, nothing else does the job as well. They come up sooooo fresh! I particularly do it when DS has had bad nappy rash. But I haven't tried it with my boosters (yet!) so I don't know how they go.

FJ I'd do it if it's a one off or not regular thing. I wouldn't do it on the coloured stuff.
Make sure you give the load an extra rinse as I believe that a cause of nappy rash in traditional flats is a chemical reaction with the urine and napisan/washing powder residue in the fabric.

C's nappies are starting to get a bit pongy too lately. Our hot water only goes up to 50deg and that doesn't really cut it sometimes so I have done a soak in the trough topped up with boiling water from the kettle and it makes a difference. Takes a bit of time though!

The other thing I was thinking of thinking of doing LOL Ok don't laugh to hard, or at least swallow what's in your mouth & put down your coffee......

I wouldn't put any soap in, simple go for the hot water as the dishwasher heats the water itself so gets bloody hot. Maybe even if I did do a drop of dish liquid then a good go int eh washing machine LOL.

But I think I am safer to just soak them.

I'm having a poo problem here... the newborn poo won't come off the damn nappies!! arghh.. I put some through the wash and there was still poo on them!!!! Removes all of DS's little "remains" though.... ARGHHH.. I think I need stronger detergent, none of this earth choice liquid stuff...

What does everyone else use?!!?! (in a top loading machine)

Now there's an ideas girl if ever I saw one! Dishwasher hey...it could work I guess!

Mel I never had any probs but I did rinse to poos off first so they were only going in the machine with the po that had soaked into the fabric.

Oh why oh why is it that as soon as I put the boy into a bamboo boosted bum so that it will last through a nap, he poos? How do they know? Is it just the silky softness of bamboo velour that makes them think, oooh yeah, I'd like to poo in that? WHY???????

Poor little guy has canines coming through (he's decided to skip the top front teeth apparently), so we are not a happy house. After a night of waking every two hours on Friday, I gave him panadol last night, he woke at four after going down at midnight and woke screaming every time I tried to put him into the cot. I don't think anyone within a vicinity of five hundred metres got any sleep last night...

FJ - I've heard of people putting boosters in the dishwasher. I've got to do my BumG ones - they are grey from panadol. But I don't care because once they're stuffed, no-one can see them.

Gudi - is it actual poo or just stains? Do they go white when dried in the sun?

FJ - i remember reading on US sites, that that's exactly what American mums do, do the stripwash in the dishwasher - i thought i had misread, it gave me a big laugh - but it's what they do.

I reckon if that's YOUR way of hotwashing the nappies, do it.

Every nappy wash for us is at 60 degrees and i havne't needed to napisan any MCN in 21 months. I feel very fortunate to have access to hot water in our laundry.

i read of people who do their regular nappy wash in cold, but hotwash once a week, or fortnight.

i'm a bit spooked about Napisan (it gives me migraines), but "sometimes ya gotta do, what works for you".

WOTBB: bits for bots bamboo terry fitted with a trifold, only fits cos the nappy is a size too big for bilbs, woolly soaker, baby legwarmers and booties. We're off to show a newbie our night nappy stash tomorrow, so i can't put them on bilbs tonight, they're in the showntell bag instead!

Gigi - do you wash everything at 60 degrees? Minky & PUL too? I do mine at 40 because I've not been game to do 60. How are you and beautiful Bilby? Last I checked in properly she had that tummy thing, is she all better now?

Maz - Vy is gorgeous!!! You've got a supermodel in the making there - the camera loves her and she obviously loves it!! And Euan sends a super drooly kiss back, I tell you, the kid could enter a wet tee-shirt contest and they wouldn't need a hose.

QM - hope Punky's bum is soft and sweet soon. Euan's is a bit red tonight too, he's been bepanthened for the night. But not weepy thank goodness.

Christy - Euan would argue (if he could) that it's just my sense of rubbish timing, it's nothing to do with the bamboo. After all, if I didn't change him ten minutes before he needed to poo, then he wouldn't poo in the nice clean nappy.

Not one sposie used in this house all weekend!!! Dh put a sposie on Em at mum and dads, but I didn't pay for it so it doesn't count

I need to wash Sarah's soaker. It has started leaking. I guess we will have a couple of nights of someone in sposies until that dries MIL is going to make some more as birthday pressies for Em though.
