PP using hair peroxide in pregnancy is supposidly NOT agood thing.. they seem to think that bleaching/dyeing hair, the chemicals can seep in through your scalp they reccommend foils etc more because they are not directly in contact with your scalp.

DS is sick with a cold at the moment (as am I!) so I guess I'm in the 'sicky' boat with most of the rest of you!

I've been giving him panadol on and off and I know that it's supposed to make their wee nuclear and bad for the MCN but I haven't really noticed anything - what's it supposed to do again?? Apart from smelling more, there's no other difference that I can see....

I'll be stalking the posty today waiting for fluffy mail...

Nettie - the general wisdom is that giving your baby panadol, results in gray stains on teh MCN inner (or liner). This has not happened to us, and baby panadol is used on bilbs, so we must be "unique" ha ha.

Snoozywuns product specs don't say a hidden layer of PUL Saram, but they do specify MM Fleece outer, so that's why i read it, plus the label "AI2" and thought, this is a stand alone product. But longies for extra waterproof protection and warmth as pj bottoms, i can understand.

maybe widdlewuns make fitteds as well? must go back and re-read that stuff - some time when bilbs is not crying - like right now -

i just changed a nappy where the contents were pastey and lumpy (hope no-one is eating lunch right now) and it was in the fitted nappy, up the jumper (small of back) but NOTHING on the longies! weird that it skipped the longies. I thought only really RUNNY contents would go up the back? must be bilby's "uniqueness" again. oh well, she is unwell.

my $30 maternity bra just arrived from Mother's Direct (ABA shop), $10 off atm (Lovable cotton). first time i've ever ordered lingerie over the net. hope i chose the right size!!!

i woke up with no voice, so we are Colds Central here. Why does it have to be THIS week!!!!

    mwah everybodee!

    Hi All,

Well just after I wrote a few days ago to say I was back in the ranks - I came down with this shocking cold that seems to have grabbed everyone at once! I spent a good portion of Friday through until Sunday in bed (thank goodness my husband was home and could look after DS). Today we skipped Mother's Group and although I was feeling good this morning I'm starting to feel wretched again now. I did spend the afternoon cooking so I pretty much don't have to cook for the rest of the week - or at least until about Friday.
I'm just completely OVER germs and diseases - we have been battling stuff for about 8-10 weeks now!

DS is trying to help me type so I need to log off...

I have nappies on the line, thought I would give the neighbours something to talk about, and yes, you all would be proud of me, I DIDN'T USE FABRIC SOFTNER. Will see if leaving them overnight outside will help get the stains out. Went and saw my boys today and they both have this cold going around. Bring on the warm weather and sun.

    well done RivLas.

here are some ideas to prevent/minimise and deal with poo stains

    - use liners in the nappies
cut up an old flanny sheet, two layers, overlock around, doesn't have stay dry effect but does catch lots of poo

cut up some micropolarfleece from spotlight

    use flushable liners

    - If you can PREDICT when bub is going to poo, e.g i know to expect a big messy one, early morning around 10, put on a nappy with a dark coloured inner

    - once you have a poo=ey nappy to deal with, Little Squirt the nappy, the liner or wherever the poo has gotten

    - if you have just changed the nappy from hell, and gotten all you can get off said nappy, put the nappy to soak in a bucket with water and normal laundry detergent - this is a last resort

    - i don't have anywhere outdoors to hang them up, but heaps of people swear by the ultra violet power of the sun to "sun out" stains.

    - if you wash in cold, try to do a hotwash sometimes, say once a week.

    - Using a pre-wash (to soak), then long slow wash, then rinse, really helps to move the residual poo.

Sometimes you gotta experiment with a few ideas before you work out the one that suits you and your situation.

did you see my answer to your question about aplix closing AIO's? i put a list of suggestions for you.

    Thanks Gigi,
Yes I saw your reply but not sure what I did with it, Nelle will have to put my brain back in when I see her. Its been interesting seeing the many different nappies you girls now have. Must admit it is interesting. When my girls were in nappies we only had I think you call them flats and waterproofs to put on over the nappy. For nights we used two nappies folded as one with a waterproof. For cleaning we rinsed the dirty one then soaked them in nappysan with the others and then washed them.
Am going to get some seconds and give to my SIL to try when she has her baby next year.
I must congratulate all of you for using cloth

Mum, Itti Bitti has small seconds at the moment, about $20ish. I think some of the girls here use them for their little ones.

Maz...I am floored by Sue's generosity...I always knew she was a gem but now I really KNOW! :P Good for her. That's gonna set Chrissy up good.

Went and saw my boys today and they both have this cold going around.
*waves* I'm sick too! Sicker than them now! Honestly...

My mum did the same thing, would use 2 terry flats at night, and used pul covers. So when I had Nina, that's what mum bought for me to use. She is blown away at the cloth nappies now.
As for stains, I swear by the sun. It only takes a day of sunning them, and they're all good again. I don't use liners, but only because I know I have the sun as back up. Living in Cairns, you get endless amount of sun.
I use Itti Bittis on Emily, I think they're fantastic. Them and Magicalls. Great for their tiny little bum.

That is so generous of Sue from Itti Bitti, what a champ!! Chrissy will be stoked.

Nina is going great guns with her tt. Every time she does a wee she inists on taking the nappy off. And everytime she needs to do a poo, she wants to use the toilet

I had a bad day yesterday, so used disposables on the girls as I just couldn't be bothered, and I forgot how many you go through in a day! It was kind of depressing seeing it all go in the bin. Won't be doing that again, at least for a while anyway.

We've had the perfect example of cloth nappy-ism here today.

I washed the nappies yesterday and put them out on the line all day (yay for sun!). Then tumble dried the last bit of dampness out and also to reduce the stiffness from them. I hadn't gotten around to 'folding' and putting away the nappies before bed last night so when DH changed DS this morning (around 5 am) - there was only pre-folds in the drawer which we've been avoiding as they've been leaking (waiting for new covers). So he put on a disposable. First one in about 6 weeks or more...

DS woke again at 6am and I went to him and got him out of his cot. He was soaked - so was the bed... Had to change all his clothes and the bedsheets (thank goodness for mattress cover from Swaddlebees!) and put a blueberry on him. The disposable wasn't even wet! I asked DH, and the nappy was on tight with the 'weapon' facing down, so we can't fathom what went wrong.

However, my DH is now of the strong impression the cloth are far superior to disposables! Can only be a good thing, huh?!

Oh well, the sheets needed changing anyway.

Fluffy Mail!!! Spanks Maz!!! (..well, not literally... ...although....) The inside is soooooooooooooooooooooooo soft, why don't you make nappies woman?!! Again, the news about Sue at IB helping out your friend is just amazing and uplifting, she really is a special person to do that, your friend is going to be blown away.

All this talk of 'back in ye olden days' , I still use the 'ol double terry combo for nights on occasion, works well.

D'oh on your sposie disaster Nettie but as you said, a DH realising the joys of cloth is surely worth it.

So, who ISN'T sick then?! I have to say I am pretty impressed with Punky, she's all boogery & snuffley but still really happy which is more than I can say for myself lol, I was dreading her first cold I thought she'd be awfull but she's dealing with it like a wee little trooper.

Better go put some washing on while the sun is out.

    WOPB: HOT pink bumwear

**Oh also, yes Gigi, do tell re: Maz's question about the cloth pads, or, erm, 'womans nappy' (I can't believe you wrote that Maz pmsl) I am terribly dissappinted that AF has returned (I guess 7 months was a good run.... ) and even more so that it meant a trip to the supermarket.
