    Hi Everyone,

I've hung out in the newbies thread (thanks Nelle), and jumped on here a couple of times but thought I would officially join the chatter now that I have a baby to put in cloth!!

I have to admit that I have been very slack at putting Jett in cloth cos I didn't have enough NB sized nappies so he only got them occasionally, and now I'm in a bad habit of putting him in sposies! I hang my head in shame! I still don't think I have a full stash as some of the OSFA nappies are still just too big for his little bottom.

But, hopefully by coming in here to chat to you all you can keep me enthused to put him in cloth all the time! And I will just have to get more fluffy mail!

So for my very first post with baby

Suse I need your DH to have a talk to mine. Trev would rather go to work in a wrinkled shirt than iron one if I forget Hope the little one is better today!
I keep telling DP not to bother, his shirts are trashed and wrinkly within about five minutes of getting to work, so what's the point. But he says he's got to at least start the day in an ironed shirt. Pfft. What a waste of time! (Can you tell I'm one of those 'if it needs ironing, I don't buy it' kind of women?)

E is much better/ish, the front tooth is finally through, but he's still chewy and drooly so the one on the other side is still on its way. And he bit my hand tonight, the little bugger! I HATE TEETH.

WOHB: Cute Tooshies with lots of bamboo boosting, and woolly soaker.

ETA - welcome MummyTummy, and welcome to the world little Jett! He is exceptionally adorable!

mummytummy - welcome and congrats on your nb
i didn't get any of our OSFA anywhere NEAR fitting our nb until six weeks old.
Have you bought any pocket nappies or got trifolds? Cos that's one thing you could use earlier. You could get the trifold (for your pocket nappy), fold it in three, lay a microfleece liner on top (for keeping bub's bottom dry) and lay this inside a nb cover.

some of the osfa nappies, you need to fold down the front tummy side, to make it fit the nb. And maybe leave out, the inserts at the beginning.

FALGUNI (aka hyena extraordinairre!) - lost in the cyberspace with only a link to cling to, yep, been there many times moiself, thinking, "how did i get here?" (Talking Heads ref for the old timers).

Sammi - yeh on the sewing! nesting anyone . Love that double side bamboo terry.

Katones - bamboo is not sold at spotlight unfortunately. here are some MCN supply sites that do stock it:
    bubba earth
    snaps australia
    nappies covered
    the bamboo fabric store
    nappyworks
    fairy fabrics

sometimes there are fabric co-ops that sell bamboo fleece too, but they take a fair bit longer to actually get your fabric, so if you're impatient to make something pretty soon, buy from the shops. (cos i know you're excited to sew hon, you may not be able to wait that long!).

Suse, does Mr E manage to wet thru the cute tooshies trifold and booster? Do you extra boost that? do you have to OUTER boost it for it to work? Maybe producing teeth makes extra wee wee too!

i caught bilby "surfing" and giggling up a storm, on the ARMS of the highchair today! OMG, my life flashed before me! Maybe tiny bilby is really tiny monkey!

She has only fallen badly once (back on Anzac Day) from the height of the changetable, i think she must have no memory of that, going on her "NO FEAR" approach!

Maz - how long before you catch those butterflies?

Welcome MummyTummy Jett is very cute BTW!!

Katones I've purchased bamboo from snapsaustralia and bamboofabricstore. Am looking into getting some from greenbeans ATM. It's a NZ store.

Suse yes well I get that totally, especailly when DH brings me home "presents" like the one he did last night. Yes I am now the proud owner of a set of white wall tyres and his shirt was filhy.

Gigi I think their desire to climb totally over rides the fear factor from previous falls. Tiny monkey doens't have the same ring as bibly though

Ange I was thinking it was probably ozebaby when you said beetlebums. I wasn't sure if you got the name mixed up though

Maz I'm counting down with a mixture of excitement and terror. I have seriously too much work to do for her bedroom. It's a disaster!

Woke up at 3 with the hungries. Not happy Jan

WOHB not sure as DH put him to bed!

Kat- for prefolds i wouldnt use bamboo, i would use micro terry or even just flannel.

with a new born they need changing so often tht i think its a waste of precious bamboo!!

in regards to what bamboo to use, most use fleece. some nappies are made out of velvour though, cute tooshies (i think)

Well i did the stupid thing last night, while cleaning my kitchen i shock the toaster over the sink and dropped it in...... while the sink was fulll grrrr. so now today not only do i need a deep fryer but now a toaster...

so no dlish order for me

Gigi- you want to see a monkey? come see annika!!! but that is a cute picture in my head!

Ah yes you do have a point there Nessa BUT you keep them and use them as boosters or pocket stuffers so it's not really a waste then So many stores sell pocket nappies and boosters separate and they are $10 or so on top.

Sam - I forgot to write this before now - your belly looks wonderful!!!

(Oh how I miss being pregnant...)

Have to say - was mighty impressed with the Monkey Doodlez I had on DD last night - gave her a bath and put her in it before 6pm - then gave her a feed and she fell asleep around 7-ish - and then - woke up at 1am!!! STILL IN THE MONKEY DOODLEZ!!!!!!

    And NO LEAKS!!!!

    WOOOHOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well - thats my news. Hopefully get fluffy mail today. Did anyone ever feel the need to shop - like a REAL NEED to shop - but then realise that they don't actually need any more nappies ? its an awful realisation... (must mean I need to have MORE children)

    WOAB: Widdlewuns
WOMB: Err.. thinking thinking... yeah no, don't know. DH changed her at 5.30 when she woke up for another feed. Probably just a fitted and cover I would imagine. (had to laugh the other night - he put a cover on a Monkey Doodlez AIO...hehehehe)

    Katones

I just sewed up 20 prefolds. 30 x 40 cm rectangles with 6 layers of flannel and 1 layer of microfibre in the middle panel. (2 layers of flannel on the outside pannels). If that makes any sense.

I actually tried one out on DD as a pad fold in a PUL cover (bbb) and it lasted well. I was very impressed seeing as what nessa says is true - they are only in each nappy for max 2 hrs as newborns squirt poo and wee all the time! lol

I have some bamboo inserts / tirfolds that i sewed up for pocket nappies but prob wont use them directly as prefolds as would hate to get the poo out of them lol

All i did for my flannel ones was buy 2 x double flannette sheets from the op shop for about $6 and some microfibre cloths and sewed themup! hey pronto - cheap and effective until bub can fit into MCNS

Thanks everyone for your lovely warm welcomes and compliments for Jett. He is a bit of a spunk, but I am completely biased!!

Thanks for the advice on the OSFA nappies. J is 7 weeks old now and although I can get him in to them the absorbency is the issue. I have Haute pockets and the nb booster doesn't hold the monster wees he does, and the large booster doesn't fit well when the shell is at its smallest setting. Maybe I am just doing it wrong?

The itti bittis seem to work well though. And I have tots bots bamboozles as well, which are great, until I have to put a cover on!! then he looks like he can't move!!

Oh well, it is all a bit of trial and error really. Any other nappies you think I should try? Small fitting with big absorbency?
