we are home too - thanks so much guys - was nice to be out and about!!! (and talk about other things than elmo, dora, puppies, turtles....)

Some little miss screamed most of the way home - thank god I speed so my trips are short...

She is soooo overtired now - I pity my neighbours for the screaming that will commence once she finishes the bottle!!!

FJ - nice to see we have the same taste

Kat - its such a problem when you want more but don't know what!! I really should go through my stash....

No not thinking early anymore. Had my MW appointment yesterday & she said the U/s report came back with my normal dates I just have a big headed baby LOL. who is also posterior so we can't go early as I need time to convince him to turn around. I mean hell, if your gonna have a big head kid, at least be nice & come out so it moulds right on the way through. Not like Glenn who came out posterior & wasn't nice enough to at least get that giant head out the easist way.

just a quick question.. only coz i know i will get a quick answer in here rather than the nappy making thread....

would these 2 material be ok for a lightweight cover?? outer MINKEE and inner MICRO-TERRY TOWELLING?? and maybe a strip sewn into the terry inside of micro-fleece?

No the terry towelling will absorb not repel.

eta - basically you want a polyester. cottons or anything with a cotton content wont work as a cover. To back minkee you would want to team it with a polar fleece.

Maz going shopping with the kids will do NOTHING for your sanity. Trust me I've just come home and I have big tufts of hair missing!

I impressed a lady in the change room with a beetlebums. I guess if you wanted to show off to someone then that would be one of the nappies of choice ROFL. She had seen baby beehinds at the kids market last time she went and has been thinking about taking the plunge. I think I might have convinced her

WOHB Beeltebums camo minky pocket. He was asleep when we came home and is still.

Just asking as a gentle reminder to keep the sewing related talk to the sewing threads.

    Hi all!
Well Im very happy cz Aiden is in MCN full time!! Im so addicted to them but I have a couple questions...
DS is a long skinny bubba with chubby legs so is their any particular brands I should avoid/ try out?
I want pocket nappies as Im a little intimidated by all the covers and all that and they seem simplest and dry fairly fast.
    Thanks.

I can suggest Blueberry, green kids and BunGenius. Itti bitti are just as simple to use and dry just as quick so it's worth trying them too.

No - Blueberries, Green Kids & BumGenius are all pocket. Just stuff & go. The itti bitti's have 'snap in' inserts which are colour coded so you can't go wrong. Or you can get 'sewn in' so you don't take them out (but they'd take longer to dry). Where are you located? Someone might be near you who can show you some different types...

Ah yes Suse the SLS thing was what got us into the whole change in products. Its scary... I even go to an organic chemical free hairdresser!!! Oh what bigger cities can have
today, i looked at all the washing detergents (suggested on a MCN forum) and read the ingredients.

the purity, amolin and earth choice all had something not desirable (be it some fragrance, optical brighteners, or SLS in earth choice).

the only ones that ticked all the boxes were ecostore (NZ) and planet ark sensitive (Aust).

so i'm changing over from Omo Sensitive (which i know find out has enzymes in it!) to trialing Planet Ark Sensitive.

i was so surprised that Earth Choice had SLS in it.

Christy - do you get frizzy dry flyaway hair? what can you use that is paraben free for that? the only thing i've found that works is Fructis milk smoother or somesuch - and it has PARABENS in it!!!

WOTBB: kester kovers AIO wot iz daddy's fave

what about that new WEN shampoo stuff they are advertising on late night telly...how does that stack up?

ETA: just checked the ingredients list for WEN...the cleansing conditioner, styling creme and intesnive are SLS and paraben free. the texture creme has parabens but hey I odnt use styling products anyways so thst doesnt bother me. It sounds like it might be worth a trial and some of the women in the video with afro flyway hair and fine blonde stuff get awesome results from it.

Katones, everthing MCN i've bought that has a minky outer, has a HIDDEN layer of either Procare or PUL, to make it waterproof.

if you sew everything inside out, then turn and top stitch, no reason why you can't make stuff on a sewing machine. all the messy bits will be INSIDE where no-one will see them!!!

For the covers i have, they all have this in common
    - a waterproof outer (eg PUL or fleece or wool)
    - a stay dry fabric inner (e/g microfleece or suedecloth)
there are links in the DIY sewing thread of Nappycino to photo tutorials about sewing all sorts of MCN, have a look there.

RHYS - if you have a long bubba, some brands do a MEDIUM LONG size - well worth looking out for. Possum Pouches have Medium long, AIO night nappies available right now - that site is rarely stocked, so RUN if you're after a good night nappy! Discount with your Great Downunder Nappy Hunt code too (sign up for the hunt at diaper decisions, it's free).

some lovely shorties on that site too.

if you have a long baby, maybe nappies with a LONG rise would help?
    honeyboys aio (try catnaps store)
happy heiny pockets (on sale at the weewuns)

    The SHELL of a nappy?

the SHELL of a pocket nappy just means the main body piece of the nappy
what you have when you remove the insert (inside the pocket cavity)
    e.g a greenkids pocket nappy

the SHELL of a ALL IN TWO nappy just means the main body piece of the nappy
what you have when you remove the snap in inserts/boosters
    e.g an itti bitti dlish

the SHELL part dries pretty fast, cos all it is, is WATERPROOF OUTER and STAY DRY INNER usually (all synthetic so dries fast), except for the ones that have alternative inners, for babies who cannot tolerate synthetics and need fabrics like cotton velour on the inner, but this is the exception, not the rule. They take a tiny bit longer to dry, but not THAT much (cos i have both).

i know, all the jargon is pretty overwhelming when you're new - you'll get there!

    KATONES
At Spotlight, there is material called TASLON, which is a thin type of waterproofing fabric. Not as sturdy or effective as PUL, but that's the only sort of waterproofing material i can think of, from Spotters, that you might use to waterproof your covers. and is another one RIPSTOP or something like that? my brain is foggy!

the spotlight staff are not familiar with MCN at all, so it's no good asking them "what do i use to make nappies with?" unfortunately.

MAZ - is Vy tt-ing already??? wow!!! great and sad all at once heh???

SUSE aka Miz Pedantic - going back for a fullstop! that was a test surely, to see who reads thoroughly!!!! LOL - do i win the choc frog? make mine a CHOC BILBY!!!

What can I say Gigi? I admit it, I'm a pedant... Comes from being an occasional copywriter/editor. I spent years searching for that missing full stop. But yes, you definitely get a choccy frog. Or even an organic chocolate bilby for being so clever.

Speaking of clever, but speaking quietly because it's a little OT ;-) - check out this thread...

WOHB: FJ special blue dot minky night nappy with woolly soaker ( FJ!!). Just gonna put the little monster back to bed now...

Oh, and ETA, anyone seen Nelle lately? Nelle - you OK out there, haven't seen you in yonks...?
