Hun I kow it sounds like a lot of money and it is a lot of money but the ATO cannot claimit from you ...only him...its his debt if its his tax thathasnt been paid. Point two....If he does his tax returns and is owed money it will negate the debt...point three if you make a paymant plan with them to even pay the smallest amount of money each even if it is only a few dollars and takes 15 years to pay back.....they have to accept that .....that is also the law......they will not throw you out on the street for their money if you do the right thing and just communicate with them. It must be a very horrible time for you right now.....I think you need to bite the bullet and see anaccountant hun asap....even if you have to pay them a few hundred dollars to sort it all out, it is better than paying the tax man 20,000.....Good Luck!!!

Maybe on the day that Bilbs is in CC take a trip into the city and go to the ATO on Waymouth St. If DH can get the day off then get him to go in with you. It is his debt hun, you needs to get on his back about it and go with him to make sure it gets fixed.

FJ I'm not sure what type of elastic I used in that nappy. I think it was birch braided swimwear elastic so it shouldn't have gone yet and I've got an identical one I made for Caleb at the same time which is fine. Maybe he needs a bit more chub on him to fill the legs in! Shouldn't be too hard to fix though if you think it needs to be tighter.

PP - that's a hardcore poo-er you have there. Lucky DH caught that one and not you, eh? I do the 'sun maximisation' strategy on the clothes horse too - one horse is for inserts, microfibre down the bottom, bamboo up the top, and the other is for night nappies, fitteds and pockets/covers. But I still try to arrange my pockets according to colour LOL.

Ness - congrats on 8 months BFing hon!

Hasn't the time just flown - Euan will be one next week! Can't believe it's been nearly a year since I popped in to bemoan the poo stains on my lovely new nappies.

Yeah Sammi, pretty sure the elastic needs to be tightened. Its in the wash atm from yesterdays poo lol. I will sit with it & the hundred other things at some point.
Its a good fit other wise.

Another good fit is the klssuluvs which makes me sad. I have one when I coul dhave had 12 but Aus post screwed me over & I never got those. Wish I had now seems the fit so well.

I hope you don't mind me jumping in. I have a few questions.

I started DD on cloth a couple of months back. All went well, I like her big bottilicious bum. She's wearing BBB + wool cover at night (sometimes PUL if the wool is in the wash)
day time, we have some Green Kids pockets, Peapod pockets & Swaddlebees OV pockets (using the hemp inserts in some, bamboo terry trifolds in others). I like them all. I jsut find the washing really hard to deal with. It wasn't so bad in the beginning, but I am pregnant now and have a sensitive nose and weak stomach. And her wee seems really strong. I dry pail and have recently washed every day to combat the smell problem. But when I open the nappy bucket, I find the urine smell sooooo overwhelming (I usually spray the room with orange oil first to "distract my nose". The smell of her morning nappy is also hard to handle. DH does the first nappy change most days as I just can't stomach it right after getting out of bed. But he's really over it and I think he just wishes we'd go back to sposies.
Now with the warm and humid weather, I find my whole laundry smells like a train station underpass. It's really gross. I have to do something about it. Any ideas? is there anything I can add to the nappybucket, to neutrlise the smell a bit? I have tried adding some Baking Soda, but it doesn't do anything. Somebody suggested nappy pail deodorisers, but where do I get something like that?
I'm usually not such a woos when it comes to smells, but I think pregnancy is not helping atm.

My mum is also coming next weekend to stay with us for 6 weeks. She's pretty opposed to cloth as it is, and I really don't want to turn her off even more. If anything, I had hoped to win her over by showing her that it isn't as bad as you'd imagine (she only ever used sposies on us and doesn't know anybody who did or does cloth). But atm, tbh, it is that bad. To me anyway.
I keep persisting, because I jsut spent all that money on my stash, and I kinda like it and am feeling I'm doing the right thing. And I already notice a big change in DD as to her awareness of her bodily functions. I just think I must be doing something wrong. I dry pail, rinse dirty nappies with the LS (DD has pretty creamy poos, that don't just roll off). Wet nappies go straight in the nappy bucket (lined with a bin liner). I don't really want to rinse them, I try to minimise the handling as I find it so hard to stop myself from vomiting...

Oh, I'm just a whimp...

FJ - awww thats a shame mate - I think I have about 8 Kissaluvs and I LURRRVE them.. just such a good fit on her - I never worry bout leaks if she is wearing them (and teamed with a M/E cover!!)

Hi Sasa! Welcome!!

I think a few others can testify to the overpowering nature of early pregnancy combined with toddler nappies. I haven't got there yet, but a couple of things you can try are:

- put a few drops of tea-tree, lavender (or even eucalyptus) oil on a cotton bud and tape it to the lid of the bucket.
- I always LS my wet nappies. It makes a big difference to the state of the nappy bucket, so if you can stomach a few extra seconds of handling, it might really help.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know!

A friend of mine just told me that she doesn't drypail her MCNs. She puts them in a bucket full of water and canesten rinse. Is that alright to do? Does it not affect the PUL or elastic? How about residue causing rashes?

By the way, my nappies don't smell when washed. But they do seem to smell quite strong once they get weed on. I use soapnuts to wash them. I did use Aldi trimat front loader detergent in the beginning, but have since gone off the smell of that. Soapnuts seem to agree with me better as they don't smell. I sometimes add a drop of lavender oil (or rose geranium) to the little bag that you put the nuts in. But mainly for my normal clothes, not nappies. I do line dry nappies, outside if possible, inside on a clothes horse when it rans. I do sometimes have to "finish" them in the drier when we have rain for a few days as they take forever to dry and my stash isn't that big - yet.

By the way, Gigi, your Tax story is absolutely shocking. You poor thing. I hope you can sort it out. You shouldn't be responsible to pay his debt unless he's declaring bankrupt (not that I know the legalities). But I do know that the tax office is usually very cooperative when it comes to paying off your debt over time. They rather get the money eventually than never. So I would do what the others have said: talk to an accountant, definitely give your DH a piece of your mind, and talk to the tax office. As long as you're making an effort to communicate and solve the situation, they should be helpful.

suse - i bought 2 of those hangy things with 20 pegs that you can clip i guess your smalls on then it hangs one the line as one big contraption... am i making sense?

Anyhooo i clip all my inserts on those and they spin around in the wind and rotate in the sun! lol

Sasa - get some fleece about and cut it so its about 10cm in diamater....oh make it 2 layers and put something thats is soakable between them...eg an old face washer..
....them get some ribbon and make it about 40cm long and thread it through one little section of this 'now disc' and double it to allow 2 strands of 20cm IFYKWIM....
.... then get some essential oils...eg I used vanilla and put about 10 - 20 drops on it....
....tie the ribbon that isnt attatched the the disc to the bucket and pop the disc into the bucket.

I use to make these guys..I called them snozies...if they lose their smell or get soiled you can always wash them under the tap.

If you cant get your head around it babe...shoot me your pm...ive still got one or 2 sitting here that i'ld be happy to send ya :)

They really helped me when I was pg...I had exactly the same trouble as you.

Oh Gigi!! Hugs to you sweets... we have a perpetual tax bill too... we pay back $240 a fortnight & it was all supposed to be over & done with in Jan but then we got ANOTHER tax bill.... *hmph* It's just so awful to look at 'that' letter & know that that is where all your bloody money is going to go from now on. :( Definately do what Melbel said & get DH to DO his tax returns, that will hopefully reduce the amount some. Thinking of you hon.

Nappies.... we're almost bloody out!! There are two machine loads soaking wet on the line, & the rest bar two bbh are dirty. :( ...and we've not had to resort to flats in such a long time! D'oh!!

Maz, thanks, you make me feel like less of a woos. At least I'm not alone in this situation. And I'm glad you found something that helped. So, if I understand your description right, could I use and old cloth breastpad??? Sorry, am trying to find the lazy way out... and the immediate one, that doesn't require me going to Spotlight first.
But that's a great idea. Can always chuck it in the wash with my nappies every now and then and refresh with new oil... mmmm...

Okay, if you have one of the new Minky Magicalls, what do you think of it? Our ye olde style Magicalls (which I have been whinging about for ever) are going to go. They're not reliable or absorbent enough, I'm guessing the new style that allow stuffing will be better.
Are the newer Magicalls sized a bit bigger by any chance?

I keep my nappy bucket in the toilet next to the LS all the time, so that I can rinse then dump straight into the bucket. I only take the bucket into the laundry when I'm doing the washing, which I do every second day (although we don't actually have a laundry, we have a cupboard with a washing machine and sink in it). If it's wee, I pull the inserts out, give them a quick rinse, and chuck them in the bucket. I don't worry about the actual pocket most of the time, it's the insert that has all of the wee in it.

PP - that's a good idea. ATM I'm drying inside because it's so humid, and I'm trying to find a way to save space.

WOHB: Berry Plush, and still a bucket load of Sudocream with a liner.

nelle - do you want me to send you the medium one I have here...i have tried and tried but as soon as I put it on Mateauz gets blisters. Bugger ya...I'll jsut send it anyway :lol:

nelle, I have a plain Magicall, I don't mind it for an AIO. I'm not usually a big fan. I don't stuff it, but only use it for short periods. Not sure about the sizing when compared to the older ones,....

hmmm Simon was working today too. My boys have been ok. god I just have to say the word boy, which could mean iain = baby & bam a let down LOL. I haven't resorted to sposie breastpads but I am outsoaking my maz pads LOL. I have resorted to finger pressure during a let down.

My house is a pig sty. Just no motivation to clean it though. Its all bloody toys. From one end to the other. The other week DH opened the cupboard inthe toy room that has more toys in it put away & of course the kids thought it was chirstmas & pulled it all out even after I said to DH not to let them as they wont put it away. So week or so later what do you think is all over the toy room floor? Hmmmm at least its something different to train tracks & mega blocks for a change. Still not impressed. I think I need to stop hording so much & have a garage sale.

Any suggestions on a good NB size night nappy LOL this kid can PEE! Would prefer not to need to change him every 2 hours at night but if I don't he is soaked. THATS with boosting. I let him go last night from about 1.30 till 7 & of course he needed a full clothing change & wrap wash etc.
I have some BBB's (only 2) but he isn't big enough yet. Might try again when he is awake though.
I really want to get some mandy mac bamboo nappys.
I have 7 hemp ones here but again they seemed too big bulky at the front once they are folded down for him. But he needs the 2 boosters I think if I was to use them over night.

Fiona, maybe try some Tots Bots Bamboozles in size one? Because they're bamboo terry, they're a bit more flexible than bamboo fleece, and you can fold the front down to snappi it if bub is small.

I h ave some of those. But also didn't think they would stand up to the amount he is peeing. He out wet a WC fitted & thats a lot of boosting in one of those!

eta - ok feeling a bit like a **** LOL I think I just figured out how to make the Mandy macs work. Am I the only one who didn't realise that folding the mandy mac down into itself rather then just folding it over makes for a much trimmer fold?
I want to wake him up now to see if it s a better fit. No way there would be enough in the bamboozals I think.

Everything else just goes on the line as is, but all the inserts, wipes and liners go on a coupla those thingy-me-wotsits PP was telling about.

FJ - your talk of waking up a newborn just makes me crazy! I swear I got a broken one... it's taken me 6 months to get him to sleep more than 20 minutes during the day!
ahh, bless you. It must be a challenge to get a nappy that's absorbent enough without being ginormous! And you'd have to put a wedge under his back so he could sleep flat, and not with his butt way up in the air!

Went to a paediatrician at the Childrens Hospital yesterday, and he'd never seen an MCN before, especially not a black Berry Plush. He was very impressed, but does anyone else find that sad? Of all the kids he's seen in his career, he's never encountered something like that... something other than sposies? bah.

The mandy mac isn't too bad now I figured a better way of folding it too fit. he has one on now & has been in it for about an hour going on 2. So we'll see how it holds up once he wakes. But I will try them tonight. I sleep him on his side so even though the bulk is at the front it shouldn't worry him too much. I hope...

Do you do a prerinse in the washing machine first? I notice mine get a bit wiffy if I don't do that.

Raven, not sure if DD is teething, tbh. I only ever know that in hindsight ;-) She has all her teeth apart from the eye teeth (which could be the culprits as they have been lurking under the surface for a while now) and the 2 year molars. Yes, I do definitely do a prewash, then long (cotton) cycle at 60 degrees, then "intensive rinse". As I said, they don't smell when they've been washed. Well, the hemp inserts do, but that's just the hemp smell. The bamboo has a slightly "earthy" smell to it. Hard to describe, but nothing that smells like wee or poo. The pockets don't smell at all.

Nana, I think the people who built your house also built this one. Our toilet is no bigger than a cubicle in a public toilet. Actually, I have seen cubicles bigger than my toilet.
By the way, I had to laugh at some of you guys being OCD when it comes to colour matching your MCNs. I am guilty of that, too. Mainly, I have to have 2 pegs of a matching colour holding them up. I can't have a red nappy hanging by a pink and a yellow peg. DH always laughs at that cause I'm not exactly a domestic goddess,.... but these details seem to be important to me. Don't get me started on other weird things I do...

NaNa - Happy 1/2 a Birthday to Aadi! (PMSL at the correct rainbow line sequencing too, now that's waaay more anal than I)

FJ - I'd agree that size one Bamboozles make a good newborn night nappy. I used them from day 1, and Euan was a little smaller than Iain. I boosted with a two layer bamboo booster once he started weeing more. They fit up to about 8 or 9 kg I think.

erll after say 2 hours the mandy mac was pretty darn wet. I think im just gona have to change him at each feed at night. I put one of the bbb on him again & it fits ok so i might put that on for his longer stretch of the night. See he goes down about 9.30, then wakes 11.30, then close to 2 then he makes it till about 5. Now that i said that tonight will be different you watch lol. Last night he was up every 2 hours but the poor kid had been in & out of the car 3 days straight so im not surprised he was a little unsettled.

Sounds perfectly sane to me ;) LOL!!! I bet you can't bring yourself to use different coloured pegs per nappy either? We need to start another thread entitled clothes line neurosis's! ETA: oh and yep, that's the correct spectrum order... my Fine Art degree serves me well when it comes to matters such as this.

I don't peg out by colours but I peg by brand and the boosters all have to be in a line :redface: Eg I'll peg out the BBB outers first, then the long boosters and the short boosters rofl.

I put all my IB's on the top row of the clothes horse, I have to put our night nappies in the middle and wipes get hung on one of those 20peg holder things. trifolds and booster go on the bottom row.

nana - we had the same experience with Nuro surgeon at the Royal childrens in Melbourne. He was so ingrossed in them it wasnt funny...even my pead here in shepp loves them...he said its probably helped Mateauz in his muscle control with his legs and hips (his left hip was quiet bad due to his cerabal palsey - not that you can tell now)
