oh, and I'll pop some Euan/Aiden photos up soon!
Made it out of the spare room alive Ange.
Ooops gotta go, boy is waking up. Will shout when I've put those piccies up,
hi everyone
not much new with us, not waiting on any nappies now, so I think its time I started looking again!
We've almost run out of clean nappies, cause all the nappies are in the washing basket waiting to be hung out but, can you believe its actually raining in Melbourne! Think I might hang them on the clothes horse, but they will take forever to dry inside.
My DH is looking at installing a tap and hose in our toilet so I can rinse the nappies, which I cant wait for, especially after some super stinky teething poos over the last couple of days. He reckons he can get all the stuff he needs for $20 from the hardware store... I just hope it works as well as a LS!
WOHB - peppermint IB
I used to chat in here awhile ago but then I had my second baby and cloth nappying got away from me
BUT come April I will have 2 maybe even 3 () in nappies and have decided that investing in cloth would probably be the cheaper and easier way to go in the long run, esp if my 2yo keeps on with his current here-and-there toilet training.
Sooo I own some peapods and bumGs (os) but I find they have trouble fitting my little chubbers. I need some recommendations on what good brands are out there! I will need a fair few nappies to cover atleast 2 of them sooooooooo they cant be too pricey or Dh will pop his corkIve had a looksie at the BBH magic-alls, are they any good? Im thinking AIO's would be the better way to go, the less I actually have to do the better so Im a whack em on, whack em in the wash, dry them, use them again kinda gal.
Thanks chicks!
Anna - stick with your bum g hon...magicals are alright once their worn in but you'll be cursing them sooner then later. So gald yourve stuck that pg gutt in here again...was miss it
Kellie - I left my clothes horse outside cause the sun was shinning and its been raining since friggen 4...wet nappies...all my night stashWTG with your hubby getting the tap and hose...now why didnt Jed think of that
![]()
kAT - Ive lost my elmo cdso if you can wait...Ive ordered another one
im so peeved at my self!!
ON a different note...MR Rudd bought us tea tonight...we had KFC for the first time in about 3 months get it home to find one piece missing. I thought I shuold ring them and let them know that some 14 year old working there cant count and guess what...they are replacing the whole meal!! ****...hope the voucher doesnt run out for 6 months cause i dont think I could eat it again so quickly. blah..one piece and some chips and I feel![]()
Hey Suse babe.....what size is that camo cover???need to know and when you seeing Jodstar again? I was gonna sneak something in that bag to you so you can give it to her
(sneaky maz)
I love KFC...it's so exy though hey!
WORB: Bubblebubs
WOSB: No idea, Rans did it...
ahhh home now guys
Gigi and i got some great shots!! will come back after witching hr and share some!!
It's a medium hon. He's still only on the second snaps but it's starting to get a bit short in the rise for him. Waaah. Everywhere else it fits him beautifully (actually, his small one still fits him except in the rise too - he's a slender lad). I might be seeing Jodi later this week anyway, but if you put something for her in the post bag to me, it will give us a good excuse to catch up.
ak have upload pic of Mj xmas nappy
Here
will uploads the shots i got of Gigi opening her gifts once i get her permission to post her pic
Anna - Howdy stranger...Like Maz said, magicalls may not be all they are cracked up to be, I don't have any bumgs so I can't help you there, but I do use BBH bamboos boosted overnight & my fav use/wash/dry/use nappy is the sewn in itti. For something cheaper.... hmmm. Stuck. Maybe Gigi can help...? GIGI!!!
Beatrix - Can't wait to see you pics!! I saw your little M in the itti gallery I believe....??
Maz - You know, good on you for ringing up - sooooooo many people wouldn't bother, but there is another $59 you don't have to spend to treat the fam next time!!
The Punk is STILL in sposies.Starting to feel pretty bad about that but everytime she poos, no matter how quick I change her, she gets really red again. Almost out of sposies... don't know if I'll get any more or not.
welcome back Anna and congrats on your 3rd pregnancy!
peapods are front snapping pockets?
bumgeniuses are aplix closing OSFA pockets or do you have the aplix clsoign AIO BG sized nappies?
so i'm taking a guess here, you are a bit over, stuffing pockets and want the AIO's to have less to do.
everything is a tradeoff i think.
AIO's mean less to do (pro) but can also mean, you need to buy a greater quantity of them, due to drying time (con) - so if money is tight, that is something to consider.
I would suggest you give at least one sidesnapping nappy a try, on your chubby bubs, cos the extra adjustability of sidesnappers, makes them fit skinny and chubby thighs of many bubs, a bit better than frontsnappers can.
so, brainstorming some SIDE SNAPPING AIO's for you
Swaddlebees make a side snapper AIO
You have the option of sized version (narrow in the crotch) or
OSFA version (wider in the crotch).
Bubblebubs make SOME sidesnapping AIO's (aplix closing)
these are sized, i'm not sure of the weight ranges, but maybe look at the mediums and larges.
easier to think of frontsnaps aio
Cushie Tushies make a front snapper OSFA AIO
Parents and Pumpkins make a front snapper OSFA AIO (on wahmania)
the thing about OSFA nappies, is that many of them are great for the mid weight range, but not so great IMMED - e.g the nb phase, or at the other end, esp if you have a late toilet trainer, a very tall toddler etc - they might run out of "rise".
Obviously this is on a "case by case" basis, every kid is different. But i would not assume EVERY kid could wear NOTHING but the OSFA, their entire nappying life.
I would suggest bamboo trifolds with leg gusset covers for the newborn/small phase (when PooTainment from teh runny explosive poos ends up being the goal), and when bubs chub up, get them in medium aio's/pockets. There are also brands that do a size 2, or a "large" where the weight range is from 8 - 16kg. i think that's a mighty generous weight range.
the way to save money, i think, is to buy the workhorse nappies, concentrate on buying nappies made out of fabrics that will be serviceable (very waterproof, very absorbent) and concentrate less on the show off MCN, esp the newborn sizes. Of course, all of that stuff is lots of fun, very cute, but if you want to do it the cheap way, that's what to avoid.
if you sew or knit you can also save money by
- sewing up double layer bamboo trifolds, just overlock two layers of 30 x 30cm bamboo fleece for example (so all you need to buy, is the good covers)
- buy half a metre of microfleece, cut up a gazillion microfleece liners
- look at ozclothnappies, nappycino, new zealand nappy network, zany zebra for free PDF patterns to download
- google "frugal diapering" for heaps of ideas
- knit woollie soakers (covers, shorties, longies). you lanolise these, for them to become waterproof covers for your fitted nappies, esp good for night nappies.
So although you want the AIO's for ease of use, bear in mind, you may need to buy MORE of that type. Some AIO's have microfibre as the soaker pad, this suits some but not all kids. Take note of the AIO's that have bamboo and hemp as the soaker pad, i think this would suit a larger number of children, over the lifespan of a nappy. I don't think it's economical to get SOME OSFA AIO's that suit young bubs, and then realise later on, oops i need a more absorbent type, then have to go buy more absorbent OSFA AIO's later on. Even if bubs doesn't need all that absorbency early on, HUGE CHANCE they WILL need it later on.
some OSFA AIO's are HYBRIDS, that means they look like an AIO (sewn in soaker) PLUS they have a pocket, so you have the option to add extra boosting IF and WHEN you want to.
If you are interested in Magicalls, there are many people on this thread who have the old style, the new style, have ued them for ages and can give you first hand feedback.
the other thing to take into account is whether you buy snaps or aplix. Some bubs get to a stage where they take off their aplix nappies, some bubs even figure out snaps!! (i'm fortunate bilby has only worked out aplix - she loves the noise!!).
When you buy whatever you buy, a few other things to take into account
- check the postage price on the site you're considering, some have FLAT RATES of postage e.g no matter how much you buy, postage stays the same - this can save you heaps - esp if you want to buy one of various brands to try them out, BEFORE committing to a bulk pack of the one you like the best
- there are some major nappy websites (nurture nappies, baby blossom, babysoftlandings, the weewuns, darlingsdownunder) that stock a variety of brands (often the big commercially manufactured brands) and have regular sale links. So look these up, click on AIO's, click on OSFA's, see what's on sale too.
- there are MCN sites like wahmnaps, wahmania, ozebaby, minicuteture, (each have a number of WAHMS work at home mums, selling MCN) which have nice MCN (often hand made) too, but the difference is, you pay postage to EACH seller.
- take your time, ask your questions of the sellers, make sure of as many things BEFORE you press ADD TO CART. Measuring your kids and making sure items suit your kids measurements, is a good idea. If there is not enough info on the sites, email the seller.
- great Ages and STages forum on Nappycino, so you can read about "nappying the newborn", "nappying the toddler" etc. "sagas of the night nappy" "nappying the heavy wetter" - anything you can think of, other mums have already asked about it!
hope i haven't bamboozled you with too much info, hopefully SOMETHING in there might help you thru the maze of MCN.
i will keep trying to brainstorm side snap AIO's for you, hmm, wondering if Blueberries do one, but my head is full instead of ALL IN TWO side snap brands! which is not what you are after, cos they involve SNAP IN INSERTS. but they dry faster. see what i mean - pros and cons with EVERY nappy.
Us: we had a lovely day with Nessa and MJ in the park, taking photos with Nessa's parent's lovely camera and saving bilby from falling from the boulders around the water. MJ (the new improved CRAWLING version!!) was so good, she stayed on her rug, not too sure about GRASS just yet!!
Nessa surprised me BIGTIME with pressies from all of you! I feel so spoilt! i am wearing the BF necklace and the lovely BF top is in the wash already so i can wear it tomorrow. Bilby is wearing her purple star skirt, looking veyr spunky in that and she WOULD be wearing the hair clips, if she had enough hair for them to go in! Soon!
i have no idea why you did all this, but thank you all so much! i was already OVER THE MOON with the Platinum m'ship, this is all really very overwhelmingly kind. "thank you" is such a little phrase, but i mean it, THANK YOU ALL!
If this is the wrong place for me to say my thank you's please feel free to move this bit mods - i don't even know WHO made this all possible, i'm assuming it's the Clothie Thread Gals, organised by the very sneaky and tricky Beatrix!! The Mistress of Surprises!!
WOTBB: blueberry zebra trainers - we're attempting trainers each evening before the bath. she's practicising putting them up and down (needs my help) but hasn't done anything on the potty yet.
update on the Tax Return Saga, the 06/07 one was lodged with Tax Office on Monday. If the ATO process it and pass info onto the Family assistance office by Friday, then that year's debt (for me) will be cleared. (big relief). But still the 07/08 tax return needs to e lodged too, so i'm not out of the woods just yet with FAO debts (due to nonlodgement of tax returns). DH still has no clue how much this is upsetting me. He doesn't recognise that his irresponsibility has caused these debtrs (in my name).
Well, after a horrid night of more-or-less force-feeding Pip baked beans, the constipation has been cleared out of the system (hehehe) with 3 nappy changes at childcare in their cloth which goes to the nappy service.
Gigi - glad you've enjoyed the gifts, you have an angel looking out for you
And good luck on the getting debt cleared! Boohoo on DH not understanding what impact this is having on you. Grrrr.
WoHB - dreameze with GK fleece pockets as cover.
anna - great to see you in hereI use baby beehinds magicalls, bamboo fitted, and itti bittis. Magicalls and itti bittis during the day, bamboo fitted at night. I only use whta I know and like. I'm not one for showing off, which is why I don't have a huge variety. These nappies work well for us, but I know they're not for everyone. We have both old & new versions of magicalls, and I like them both the same. With the itti bittis, I have snap ins & sewn ins, and I prefer sewn ins. Heath prefers to use the bamboo fitted with a cover, I think he likes to show off the cover
ness/gigi - glad to hear you had a wonderful day together. I saw your photos on facebook ness, they are gorgeous.
I can see in the photos that you and MJ have a very close bond.
I'm glad you like the presents Gigi. You've been through enough lately, you deserve a little something, plus you give an huge amount of advice to all of us in the cloth nappy section.
maz - ooooh, a present for me
suse - are we still on for Thursday? Is Rhyb able to make it?
queenmab - oh no, poor Punk, I hope it clears up soon.
Well Nina is still insisting on putting her undies in the nappy bucket each time she does a wee on the toilet. It's driving me insane.
And I'm very happy to report that I may have converted another to cloth! She loves the look of them (I always make sure Emily is in something pretty when she's around). Fingers crossed she converts.
