I had this wild crazy idea that I would count the amount of nappies I own... hmmm... the task seems toooooooo huge.

OOOh - came up with a brilliant idea (if I do say so myself)

ran out of room on the clothes horse (cos my mum said clothes were more important to be washed than nappies and DH didn't fight her) soooo.... since I don't have a clothes line... and there were about 10 nappies left to hang up - I got metal coathangers and pegged them on there and hung them from the curtain rod... lol

    Hey.. it works!!

Anyone got any reccomendations for MCNs for my older two. Their both over 12kgs and very chubby round the thighs. Im thinking maybe some fitteds/covers but Im cool for AIO's or pockets. Dont want to spend too much, just want something new to try and could do with a few extra's for their stash. Currently we only have Itti's.

Lea - the moogoo site says that Mrs Flannerys stock it.
I might check it out tomoz at wynnum. If there is some there ill let you know, maybe see if you sister can pick you up some if she goes to the plaza?

Anna - i find the ones with the most accomodating in the cubby legs are honeyboys, iishfly and bubblebubs. these seems to be well elasticed so they stretch a bit more than others

We are trying canestan and sposies on DD tonight.. hoping for a morning miracle

    Hi all,

it's been a long time since I visited, but I have the most amazing urge to go back to cloth, so here I am *yippee* Guess the sunshine has helped encourage me.

OK, so when Blake was in MCNs I only bought large cause he was 18mths old. Tyler is a skinny runt of a 13mth old, so I guess I'll have to buy some mediums.

SO, what should I buy. What's been on the market in the last 18mths - apart from Maz's gorgeous stuff.

I usually like pockets, but am open to suggestions.

What should I buy? Was thinking about Happy Heiny's cause I used to love them for Blake. Was also considering BumGeniusV3's, and Itti Bitti D'lish. Tell me if they're any good please cause I want to buy online right now!!! (or as soon as someone can encourage me what to buy.)

Thanks for your help again girls.

I'll try not to be a stranger
Great to see you back Rach!
    how much does Tyler weigh?

    what's changed?
bum genius is now up to version three, improved, now with 12 month warranty

bamboo is more popular than hemp now

more cover brands have incorporated leg gussets into their designs

bamboo prefolds are much easier to buy now

you can now get happy heiny pockets with a small number of snaps on them, normal aplix closure, with the addition of a few snaps in the middle.

greenkids pockets now have a minky version, called minkytimes

not sure if Ecobubs washable wool pockets, were around when you were before, see them at darlingsdownunder and nurture nappies

ditto about Blueberry minky pockets, in OSFA (Aplix) and also sized (side snaps), also blueberry PUL pockets

minky is the big fave for outers

Itti bitti's new thang is the SEWN IN d'lish. so an a true aio. as opposed to the original d'lish, with the snap in boosters and trifold. The itti bitti boos are very absorbent (the fitteds).

baby beehinds now have Magicalls and Minky Magicalls. i think the minky type are pocket style.

Swaddlebees have put out a pocket/aio hybrid OSFA (cotton velour inner)

    Whizz Kidz is on pause
Kidz in Cloth is on pause
    Lotus Nappies is on pause

new brands Mini La La, Twinkle Lily are very popular. Wild Child is now making Baby bling mcn, very fancy embroidery with jewel bits applied to the embroidery.

Possum Pouches has started an offshoot called Ceejaynappies, offering budget packs to help get past the "but mcn is too exxy" excuse.

    so pockets for Tyler . . . . .
do you want front/side snaps or aplix closure?
do you want low, medium or high rise?
do you want natural or synthetic inners?
do you want narrow or wide crotch nappies?
    any pref on plains/prints/colours/themes?
do you want sized or OSFA?

great to have you back Rach!

Anna, side snapping nappies are very accommodating of chubby thighs. cos if legs need a looser fit than tummy, you can do that in a side snapper, cos the tummy and legs can be done up independently. You could have the legs done up on the 2nd biggest setting, and the tummy done up on the smallest setting for example.

i would steer you towards some sidesnappers:

    • Blueberry pockets in large (stuff it with a bamboo trifold) - avail at the weewuns and also baby blossom
    • Swaddlebee pocket in OSFA (stuff it with a bamboo trifold)
    • Ecobubs washable wool pocket in large (stuff with b trifold) on sale at nurture nappies, but i'm not sure if any larges are left

(these brands above are if they need wide crotch nappies)

    • Swaddlebee pockets in large (stuff with swaddlebee hemp insert) these are on sale at the weewuns right now, the older style (microfleece inner) for 20 and the newer style (cotton velour inner) for 25.

(above - if they need narrow crotch nappy)

    Side snap covers:

    • large berry plush (minky)
    • large sugar peas in wool or mm fleece

both of these, can be used as Ai2, if you buy the matching inserts, taking the place of a fitted nappy.

something else very easy to get over chubby legs, is pullup covers

    • large dancing bears mm fleece cover (nurture nappies)
    • XXL disana woollen soaker (the weewuns) buy this larger than you currently need it, great night cover too.
    • handknit woollies with the drawstring waists like at ceejaynappies under budget knits, only 20 for soakers with leg cuffs, 25 for shorties BARGAIN

    side snap fitteds:

    • cute tooshies OSFA (but i would check the rise measurement with the seller first, to make sure it is high enough for your bubs)
    • motherease bamboo OSFA

    hope that helps you Anna
i did heaps of research on "what suits a chubby bub" back when bilbs had three rolls of chub on each thigh and i was struggling with her MCN, all we had were front snappers at the time.

OMG Gigi, you're as gorgeous and as thorough as ever!

so pockets for Tyler . . . . . I'm not set on pockets, and as you might have seen by a later post that I've ordered IB d'lish, HH's and Bumgenius. Oh and yes I've been in touch with Robyn who's doing me a pack
do you want front/side snaps or aplix closure? Front pref, or aplix, not fussed.
do you want low, medium or high rise? not had a lot of experience on this, so can't tell you.
do you want natural or synthetic inners? I'm sure natural are better, but with microfleece liner, does it matter too much?
do you want narrow or wide crotch nappies? Probably a more narrow, but again don't knwo from experience. Ty's a slim baby - a 3% boy on the charts so anything that fits really.
any pref on plains/prints/colours/themes? Not fussed
do you want sized or OSFA? the best fit.

I'm sorry I haven't given you much to go on with my answers. I really only dabbled when Blake was smaller, so its all new to me again.

    Thanks for your support sweetie.
    xx

Rachel, when you go shopping for nappies, some brands just give you a weight range to go on e.g size 1 is birth - 7kg. other brands give you waist, thigh and rise measurements and sometimes you get both.

if you know Tyler's RISE before you buy stuff, you have a better chance of it suiting him. easier and cheaper to do this, rather than wait for it to arrive, try it on him an THEN realise, oops, rise is way too short, now i have to onsell or return product (postage cost).

    you measure rise like this:
    get tape measure
    start from his NAVEL
take tape measure down, under him and up the other side
to the small of his back (approx level with navel on other side)
    that is his RISE

so aim to buy nappies that are his rise and a bit more (like a few cm to allow for growth).

while you've got the tape measure out, measure his waist and hips.

stick these measurements onto a postit, stick on your computer for next purchase time (just an idea). email the seller.maker, state your bub's stats and ask for help choosing the right size.

    • itti bitti is a low rise nappy with a narrow crotch
    • happy heiny is a higher rise nappy with a wide crotch - did you buy a sized or OSFA type?
    • bum genius is a higher rise nappy with a wide crotch (12 month warranty now) - did you get pocket or AIO style?
    • a ceejay pack? are you pregnant? (should i be jumping up and down!!) or is Tyler under 9kg?

i worked lots of this out, after A WHOLE YEAR of buying bilby nappies that did not suit or fit her at all (for the most part). i learn the hard way!!! so i decided, never again. and worked out strategies to stop it happneing again (and it's worked). Prolly everyone else already does this, but i wasn't, so i bought lots of things we coudln't even use! so idiot me found out the expensive way, what NOT to do!

    Re: inners of nappies.
Most pockets and aio's have "stay dry" inners, synthetic fabrics like microfleece or suedecloth e.g your HH, BG adn IB you just bought. Some bubs react to that fabric and the solution for some of those bubs, is to decrease their exposure to synthetic inners, hence when natural fabric inners are very useful.

but if tyler is tolerating synthetics next ot his skin - no worries. bilby did too, until she was 14 months old and then we had to make the change to natural fibres mainly.

Is Blake TT-d? Do you still have his pirate nappy for Tyler to wear one day?

LEA - i also have a petite bub, narrow crotch, side snapper, sized MCN have been the winners for us. If your bub is petite, only get one greenkids to try. they are wide crotch - my petite bub gets the worst camel toe in those.

It took me a long time to work out that she needed narrow crotch nappies, that they even existed adn to figure out who makes them, where to get them. i found heaps of people on Nappycino with the exact same issue, i took note of which nappies they bought to solve the problem for their petite bubs.

you see, i never considered bilby petite, cos from 4 - 11 months, she had 3 rolls of fat on each thigh! so i thought she was chubby, but it turned out, regardless of how her legs were, slim or chub, she has a narrow crotch. something i had never considered.

MAZ - yes, i wear that lovely Nova Maternity top all the time, it's brilliant thank you! its fits me perfectly! i feel very spoilt.

ARIMEH - good to have you back! how did your SIL cope with you using her washing machine? did it send her to drink ha ha?

Twinkle Lily has some lovely heavy wetter AIO, using lycra PUL prints - very nice and great practical as well as very groovy fabrics - if they were SS i would be sorely tempted!!!

Teru - have a look at ceejaynappies - under budget packs - great for a nb!

    where are u alioops?

hi Nessa! hi AngeA! hi Kazbah! hi LilPrecious

my hands are knackered - bye! :collapses:

she does them cheap becasue bless her heart she loves to do things for people and doenst belive MCN should be over priced ..they are not cheap quality !!!
