i hve lanolised my loveybums ones though, just today, with a divine spray from baby soft landings, oh the scent is lovely!!!!!!!!
i havent ever lanolised a BBH wool cover .. its up to you if you decide :) maybe do it to be on the safe side !
Thanks hon. Nah, no rest for the wicked. He sleeps pretty well during the day, but always stirs just enough to need quickly resettling about an hour into his sleep, and then will stir on and off after that. And you know what it's like being woken up when you've just fallen asleep, it feels worse than if you hadn't had any sleep at all, so I don't bother trying now. But I try to do the bare minimum of work whilst he's asleep, I'll wash and fold the nappies, and do the dishes, but other than that I sit on my bum on the computer or with a book. Otherwise I literally don't have a minute to myself from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed.:
Maaaaaaaaaaz - you're gonna make my life interesting - sooooo many covers i like on your FB page - i want them all! and dammit - i'm in Sydney that weekend. Hope hollybolly (and whoever else is there) doesn't mind me going decidedly quiet while i order some bigger sized bum covers!

Poor Vy bowreguard. Her bum looks burnt from a HB that MIL washed when she was here ages ago. She wash with a hole scoop of washing powder and I put the nappy in the 'to strip wash pile'...well jed found it yesterday and put it on without thinking...now her bum is red like its sunburnt. stupid dame sensitive skin :(
best go and rescue jed from the wii..I have things to do ;)

NaNa and Suse - some mama pads are wider than others. Some come with a choice of two snaps, so you can alter the width of the mama pad. I'll check which ones of mine do that.
brands like NooneeWilga (on theclothpadshop site) do customs, so you can specify stuff like width and length to suit you.
Kitt3n - when bilby was as young as your bub, the only nappies that gave us Absolute Pootainment, were
- fitteds and covers
- prefolds and leg gusset covers
Our few exceptions were a few Malden Mills pockets with the rolled out fleece legs and once she got to 5kg, a Honeyboy AIO (also made of malden mills fleece with rolled out legs).
but all the PUL aio and pockets, i had to wait until she was about six months old, before we got Absolute Pootainment with those. i was not best pleased, but at the time, wotevah gave the Pootainment, got my vote! e.g got used.
Charmlea - bad luck about the avacado seed "chop" - i commiserate.
whoever mentioned the rose hip oil idea - i WILL try that thank you! the skin on that finger is all dry and stretched, the finger sort of curls up, doens't lie flat like all my other fingers, so every day, i've been wondering, "what should i put on it", haven't been sure, so up to now - nothing. Thank you so much for the rosehipoil idea!
For those of you considering different pocket brands e.g the Kanga - babysoftlandings has a pocket package, to enable you to try out differnent OSFA pocket brands, you get to pick which ones you want to try.
Nana, i've read, to clean out the aplix if it's gone all fluffy, another way to do this, is to use a SNAPPI.

about babies just in nappies - i have noticed pale PUL outers get grubby and pill a bit, but the strong coloured minky outers seem to be very hardy to me, i've noticed they do well in the sandpit. bilby is not outdoors alot so i can't say how well they do on concrete paths.
re: the pooing in the night nappy early in the night
my take on this is to lay in a separate microfleece liner (even if night nappy is already lined in staydry fabric).
then if bilby poops early on (e.g teething), then i have a certain chance (not guarantee, but a good chance) that i can LIFT OUT the liner and the poop, and the nappy underneath is still dry and clean.
Or i can take out the trifold (if it's wet) and put in another trifold. So i "rescue" the night nappy and we still get to continue to use it over that night (in most cases). this will obv not work with a child who still has the watery poops.
i've put this down, JIC it helps one of you, esp when you're starting out and have a small Night nappy stash.

wow on the fires .. I used to live out bush and we had some like that . it was so scary and the smoke hung around for days .. everythime i smell smoke it reminds me of summer when i was little !!
Got my WC yesterday and i am soo delighted .. but most of the new nappies i have gotted eg: WC and LouLou have been lined with polar fleece ... do they still work as well ??
yesterday i had Gabbi in a man made nappy and it gave her thebiggest burn type rash ..
I cant remember the nappy i have on her , mostly fitteds but i think an AIO was on her at one time ..

last night was Gabbis 2nd nite in cloth , she wore KKs oh i do love them .. but they are too big on her they are sz M/L ( they dont come in sml ) and they gape a bit at the legs , i fold the booster right up to under her bum and pull the nappy up as high as it can go .. she looks like roly toy , the ones that have round bums and dont knock over when you hit them ...lol kwim ...
I've never had a problem with fleece lined nappies. Most of my stash is WC nappies LOL

Kat I hear you about the poo lol I put Ashton on his mat for tummy time, without a nappy, and his latest thing is pushing himself backwards everywhere... use your imagination... YUCK!

Lea yes they are allowed to sell covers, just not nappies.
Fleece is for staydry. I am actually getting 2 wc bling made with bamboo velour inners. Ashton is allergic to synthetic inners so I have to line almost all of our stash with boosters from either BBH or Bizy Bee (these are better because they are the right size but I only have 4 :( ) You will know because they come out in a horrible rash which clears as soon as you put something else on. Ashton can wear 1 nappy unlined and gets what looks like lots of red dots, if I leave more on him he even bleeds. But when I put on a natural nappy like his BBB/BBH it clears up straight away.
With the nappies that are too big, try taking the boosters out and putting other ones in. When the sandman was too big for Ashton I took the boosters out and put in some bamboo ones from BBH and it stopped the leg gape, otherwise a good cover will help :)
Well I think that's all.. oh baby kangas, who was asking? I have one... it is so good that I have the cover... somewhere, and use the booster for all my other nappies :lol: just didn't like the fit, the velcro... anything but the booster haha but I got it given to me 2nd hand so wasn't out of pocket with it :)
Gigi it's a great theory with the liner, but I can't have stay dry on Ashton, and his poo goes EVERYWHERE lol I have just taken to changing him at about 10pm not earlier, and just dealing with it if I run out of NN :)

speaking of liners.......... anyone use raw silk? I know they are exxy, but if they are well worth the money, i was thinking of asking my mum to go to spotlight to grab a metre to cut up......... would they have to be hemmed?
anyone tried sugar peas hemp fitteds? i like the idea of hemp for its antibacterial properties, i gater they require strip washes more often though from what i have read?

Has anyone washed liners in a wash bag and do they come clean alright? They end up stuck between the glass and the door rubber of my washing machine loose so I'm thinking a washbag would stop this.

I think that the raw silk used in liners is different to the raw silk generally found in spotters - which is partly processed and dyed (which renders it ineffective for NR). The raw silk used for liners is unprocessed and has a much different appearance and texture. It would need to be hemmed, yes.:
I've used the sugarpeas wool in ones (not the fitteds), they are a good nappy but I don't find any hemp nappy absorbent enough now for E. He quickly wets through both the Sugarpeas and the Lotus now. But boosted, the Sugarpeas is great. I've not had to strip wash my hemp yet. Bamboo also has microbial properties.

Kitt3n - i have a sugarpeas Ai2 - which means a sugarpeas cover with a snap in sugarpeas hemp insert. The insert is like a super duper prefold, it's elasticated (hidden) and very clever design, dries fast. At your bub's age, i think it would be fine. As suse says, as baby grows (and therefore wees more), boosting the snap in insert, by lying a bamboo booster INSIDE it, is what we do now.
i have not had to strip wash the sugarpeas snap in insert and we've been using it for 18 months. i esp love it in winter cos it dries so fast.
i noticed them on sale at nurturenappies, dono't know which sizes that applies to though.
UPDATE: there are smalls available Kit.
MM - some people change baby every time they wake/feed during the night (for a nb). all depends how long your bub sleeps for i guess, but there are also "dream changes" - again depending on whether your bub copes with those or not.
my advice about the NN was generalised, cos quite a few people mentioned they had the same problem as you - so i kept it general.
Charmlea - if the KK AIO is too big at this stage, you can either, take up some slack by putting more boosting in, or buy a medium sized one.
Like Suse said, i went to buy raw silk at spotlight - and the raw silk they sell, is for fancy dresses! it looks nothing like the raw silk nappy liners i bought online. Much more processed. i think i saw the nappy raw silk available for sale at nappiescovered. not many stock it, and it goes fast. i would definately hem/overlock it, make it doublelayered, looks like the kind of fabric that would fray heaps if you didn't.
charmlea, many nappies are lined with micropolarfleece, as a stay dry layer.
it's mainly pockets, aio's that have this as their inner (if not suedecloth) but a few fitteds brands use it too.
as others have said, if in doubt about whether synthetic inners irritate your bubba's skin,
- trial one day in nothing BUT natural inners - observe state of cute little bot.
- trial one day in nothing BUT synthetic inners - observe state of cute little bot.
- compare
that will tell you if bub is reacting to synthetic
but there are a host of other things that also make bubs skin irritate, like
- washing powder - is it a full strength one, or a gentle one
- how much washing powder is used to wash the nappies
- what you clean their bottom with, cloth wipes with just water is safest
- alot of supermarket baby products contain parabens, which cause skin irritations in some people.
- medical things like fungal infections

Lea - i got fluffy mail today - threw the LS box at DH - he looked, looked again, said "maybe we'll ask your brother!!" hmmmm.
about LS - we have two toilets - one is in the main hallway (far away from nursery but right beside laundry) - other in our ensuite (next to nursery, but fair way from laundry) - which would be better? i'm thinking the one near the laundry, but not sure cos of distance and stuff from the rooms baby will sleep in..
BG...me personally i would have it in the toilet near the laundry..then you can squirt and dump it in a bucket in the laundry ready to be washed....
I am getting more cranky by the minute..i have emailed them 3 times now and NO reply...if i don't get a reply by this afternoon i am going to go to CA.
hmmm maybe i should buy some more nappies now i am cranky?? and hubby has gone out for the afternoon/night to the cricket....members tickets with work....

i was thinking the laundry area was better - i can still have a wet nappy bucket at other end of house.... love living in a big house cept that it's rather long and makes things seem further away than they need to be. can't believe hubby isn't even trying to work out the LS - at least it's a few months before we need it - another job to add to the list of "bro can you help me?" jobs!
think about it logistically.:
every time you change bubs, where will you be?
will you go to where the change table is to do it?
which loo is closest to the spot you will do the changing at?
i would put the LS there, and nappy bucket, cos the amount of times you change bubba is HIGHER, than the amount of times you put a load of nappies on.
so i'm thinking in my head
i go to nursery X times a day, to change the nappy, then LS the nappy, they pile up in the bucket (in the loo)
but i only take the nappy bucket to the laundry ONCE a day
every household is different
depends where you keep your buckets too
e.g in an ensuite, do you have room for a bucket next to the loo?
or i suppose a space compromise, could be a large wetbag, pail liner type wetbag, on a hook on the loo door?
i could not imagine LS-ing the nappy in the loo, and then carrying it to another room where the nappy bucket was (drips everywhere).
i've thought about, if i lived in a place with no room for traditional nappy bucket, i think i would buy a slimline kitchen tidy bin, so rectangular rather than round, to solve the problem.
we're in a tiny place, but the loo room is wide enough to have a trad. nappy bucket by it's side (exactly fits!).
for some people, having the nappy bucket in the laundry is not possible, they need access to that trough.
i've seen other people's laundry, where the laundry is so big and well set out, they have the changetable setup there, a cupboard for the nappies, and very close to laundry sink for washing hands.
BG, I keep nappy bucket in the toilet next to the LS. It gets carried into the laundry when I do the wash. Nappy gets taken from change table to toilet and gets LS'd and dry-pailed immediately, so in my case I have the LS in the bathroom closest to E's room. Different people do what works for them, but in my case, it is much more difficult to carry a dripping rinsed nappy from the toilet to the nappy bucket in the laundry every time I change a nappy, than to just drop the dripping nappy into the bucket next to the LS and then take it into the laundry once every two days.

i think the laundry one might be better - we have a wide laundry with a low shelf right at the door where bucket can live - it is literally right beside the toilet door - i don't think i'd keep nappy bucket in the loo, but it would take nothing to move bucket back and forth to the loo for the LS job.... our ensuite isn't bad size, but bad design at the moment (bring on the shed - shed = start of all the big jobs! new kitchen, new bathroom! woot!). if i forgot to grab it, it would literally be two backward steps and swing sideways to find the bucket. i think it would depend on what was happening at the time as to where bub gets changed - i've always been someone that will change a baby wherever they need to be - lounge room is warmer/cooler during summer, so more likely to be down there (in which case the laundry/loo is closer to ensuite)

We have a massive laundry, which is only a couple of steps away from the main toilet. So our nappy bucket is in the laundry. It's what works for us. We have a tall, slimline kitchen bin type style for a nappy bucket.

It was raining this morning so I hung up all my nappies inside and now I'm too lazy to cart the full clothes horse outside, plus it'll probably rain more later which means I'd have to rush out and bring it back in, or that's my excuse anyway.
Kitt3n, if you want to cut up your own raw silk liners you can go somewhere like Fairy Fabrics and buy it there in 50x50cm (nappy cut) pieces. Or maybe another nappy fabric site will have it in bigger lots.
if you have an overlocker you could make silk likers easy, me I hate hemming and have no overlocker so haven't bothered lol
