    Continue on.

Oh Gigi - you are right - for night times with green kids, they recommend the microfibre booster, the bamboo insert and the bamboo booster. Thats what we use here too.

thanks Mel! i am so forgetful!

yes, greenkids, went to their site (better late than never!!) and this is what they say about Night Use, under the ANytimes listing:
" Just use one insert per nappy during the day, and 2 inserts per nappy at night time!"

i am choosing to interprete the word INSERT as meaning the butterfly bamboo inserts they sell, which mean six layers of bamboo, therefore TWELVE layers of bamboo if you use two.

forgot to say before, the solid colour PUL anytimes last longer than the patterned PUL funtimes, JIC anyone is unsure about that. Happy Heiny say the same thing. (solid colours for anytime, patterns for day wear only).

the exception (to the patterned PUL rule) is the lycra and poly PUL (patterns included) that you can buy (if you are a sewer) at places like wrigglebots - have you seen the FLAMES one Maz!!!

the cotton laminated PUL wicks faster than the poly, lycra PUL. that's my potted very basic understanding of it. Proper sewers will be able to tell you the scientific reason behind it.

and also on the greenkids site:
    "All Green Kids nappies are
designed and made in Australia !"

i read their OSFA bit too. it says the nappies fit until 2.5yrs or 15kg. i happen to know a baby who was 16 kgs at 18 months old. She is 18kgs now and is not yet two. so i guess this 15kgs business must be an average of some kind? not true for EVERY bub. bilbs is 11.6kg at 2 yrs old so it might be true for her. i have a little cousin who looked like he was four (size wise) when he was two, so all bubs are different. but i do think people get confused, when they consider buying all OSFA with the idea that the nappies WILL last until tt-ing. obviously it's not true for ALL bubs. and you won't know, until your bub gets to that weight limit and when. Plus, kids toilet train at differnt ages. I think i like the ONE SIZE FITS MOST tag a bit better.

does anyone know WHAT nappies Falguni lost on her washing line? (to fire)
if the nappies inside her home were smoke damaged? ( i suspect they would have been).
    what size Lu is?
what sort of MCN Falguni likes? all i remember is she loved the mini la la on Luella.
i don't even know what flavour she is having.

any clues people? Looking esp at the VIc girls who have met Falguni IRL.
    c'mon, cough!

You're all just a fountain of knowledge when it comes to MCN's aren't ya ladies!
I'm certainly glad I found this thread.

I'll be taking a look at the sites you've all mentioned - so a big thank-you for your recommendations.

DS is currently just wearing his home made MCN creations as I feel a bit sad putting his IB's on him knowing they weren't made here. I wish I had known before I bought them, I think they will become a gift to his cousins.

I do notice the difference in price between australian made and internationally manufactured. I'm happy to pay it though because I also realise that WAHM's don't have access to the same suppliers and prices as the big wigs do. I know first hand since I have made some for DS.

Oh, and I want to know Arimeh's news but I don't know where her new thread is? I think maybe because I'm only new I'm not allowed to see the "show threads started by Arimeh" thingos? Can someone help me out?

Anyone use flushable liners? Are they worth the $$$, just for when bub is a newbie and doing the yukky tar poo's?

    i was wondering this too!

another question as well - how many times do you all prewash nappies to get them to their ultimate condition? i'm thinking of starting to prewash soon to get them all ready - but kinda need to know how many times to wash them all so that they're ready to go... don't want to wash once and realise i should have washed 5 times kwim?

I was planning to try to wash them 2-3 times each.

Can you throw all the coloured ones in togethere - have you any issues with any of them re coulourfast-ness??

ooh, i was gonna ask that too - had all these thoughts when i was driving and they disappeared when i went to type

another one - i forgot to grab sensitive skin detergent today - is it ok for all the prewashing to be done either with water alone, or with normal washing powder (cept the last one of course - i'll send DH shopping on Wednesday for that...)

BG i wash in Am-o-lin and only use 1/2 what you generally use...

i pre-washed all bubs nappies 3/4 times prior to bub arriving...

Yeah I think I washed everything 3 times at least. I think bamboo needs 10 washes to get to maximum absorbency - or is that hemp? Can't remember off the top of my head..

Of course - they'll still work - just not for a heaps long period of time.

And no issues with colours running together. Only on a dark blue pair of longies that I washed with all my other wool things - went through washing machine fine - it was when I was soaking them in water to lanolise them that they are turned a pretty shade of blue..

    lol

    in love. lots of it.

Anna - The flushable liners would be ok for the NB tar poo, and for later on, when going out they're great. But hardly used them here for the first 4 months.
Prewashing just needs to be done in water. It's mainly to remove any residues from manufacturing, and to build up absorbency depending on the fabric. So bamboo and hemp need up to 7 prewashes, but microfibre and PUL just one. There's more detailed instructions and info on sites like nurture nappies.
I currently don't use detergent to wash DS's nappies and if I do I only use a little bit of Eco Store powder. Hang them in the sun and no smells or stains, except for one BumG booster that's been stained by panadol and is never coming out apparently

Gigi, thank you so much for all the info, I did know that the minkty have PUL as well as the anytimes.
The only reason that I am using the GK atm is because I don't have anything else that is absorbant enough to last her through the night YET lol
I'll be investing in some fitteds and a few other nappies once this bonus comes through.
I'm just at a cross roads between my expensive tastes and my budget

I have a heap of maz covers that I will be using and some wool soakers, I don't know if the soakers will still fit though, i got them as freebies but found that I got alot of compression leaks so I stopped using them. She is a bit more wriggly now so I might give them a try again once I buy some new fitteds, I also have some longies that I want to try out as well.
The more breathable the better especially when it gets humid up here her butt gets all sweaty in PUL.

I know what you mean about the OSFA sizing Abby was 11 kg at 12 mths lol so she might have struggled in them at 2 if I had have known about the wonders of modern cloth back then

ETA BG I only wash in warm water no detergents at all otherwise Elise comes up in a rash, poor bub has sensitive skin like her mumma, I also had to stop using Gaia bath products cause they made her rash up as well, so now we only bathe in water and only every second or third day, then lather up in moo goo, I love that stuff, that and the black tube of paw paw are the only things I can use on her that are okay.

Might just use them for the first few weeks of newborn yukky poop then confine them to outings only. The older boys use the washable fleece liners and they usually poop first thing after waking up so I can expect it lol

Are the eenee liners ok, they seem pretty affordable.

I just realised I need to get cracking on my last min baby things otherwise I'll get too tired and itll never get done. I havent even packed any bags yet.
