Thanks Ali but I'd feel ashamed showing someone my horrible attempt at knitting lol It's all different tensions etc. and looks very wacky.
Marlene I've sent you a message on FB about the longies chicky :)
Sami - I agree with Ali. Possibly B4B or Nappy Addicts. Just put a short timeframe on it. I hope your overnight MCN concoction holds up ;)
WOPB: Brown sewn-in IB. Going to be changed in a minute for bed.
i think i might fall in love with sewing if i can get the machine to work with me EVERY time. Mebbe i have some sweet talking to do LOL
AP must reap so much profit from us. there should b a delivery service setup esp for fluffy mail! ive got way too much time on my hands...
Eta:
Sami- ive found nappyaddicts & usednappies to b pretty good. Nappyaddicts b better for close to new nappies
Howdy :D
Does anyone have a Swaddlebees microfibre or hemp insert from the OSFA nappy that they can measure for me? I can provide further details if someone can....TIA
nappychic is also good for selling nappies
Marlene;)
FELTING is something very hard to explain quickly. here goes (with my limited understanding of it, i have just dabbled in a few of these, or read a bit about them, as opposed to full on crafty types that know it properly and inside out).
Felt as a verb - something you DO
you can FELT an old wool jumper, by hotwashing it for example. that is, shrinking it on purpose. maybe to make a bumjumper out of it.
you can FELT an old wool blanket, by hotwashing it also. so you shrink it in the wash. for what purpose? to have a waterproof mattress protector on your child's bed.
so that is UPCYCLING an old thing.
felting, as an adjective (describing a type of wool)
in a CRAFT sense, from brand new felting wool, you might make some objects, like a doll, a purse, some baby slippers. (i made a little angel, at a steiner playgroup, it was fun to do). the weewuns on ozebaby, has some felt purses and other items for sale atm, have a look there to see what i mean.
to make things out of felt, it's like modelling clay, but you're modelling with felting wool and some kind of stick. ( i only did it once, so don't remember the technical word for that special stick LOL).
And when i was a kid, i had felt animals and people, that i laid on a board, to make a story. i think that's a different sort of felt. You buy it in squares at spotlight, to sew 3 dimensional fruit and vegetables etc out of. well that's my plan, to make felt food for bilby (my non eating bilby). on the ecotoys website, you'll see 3dimensional fruit and veg there as examples.
and with mcn, say you have a wool soaker that MUST be handwashed, and you accidentally wash it with your nappies, and it shrinks quite a bit. You could say "oops, i've felted the soaker, now it's NB size, and it started out as a LARGE."
so in different contexts, felting means different things.
Charmlea - i didn't know you saw a real bilby at the expo! wow! they are so rare! how fantastic!
oh, and you know how we talk about people friendly products, like moo goo, for our skin/hair etc, well i just worked out, the hand sanitiser we use (was in the nappy bag, now it's in the potty bag), well it's one of the very few on the market that is alcohol free (and no fragrance), so i thought i would mention that one, in case it helps anyone else, who is after a greener, gentler hand sanitiser. you google "hands first hand sanitiser" to find it. maybe it's like moogoo and sold at various distributors around australia.
wotbb: KK AIO and woollen longies
she's wetting her night nappy about two nights out of seven now.
unsure if i should have her in night naps or night trainers
Aliooops - glad for you that you ahve a date! Marvellous Monday!
great news that your dh won't be going away until Feb - hope they "find" his coursework, what a mess on their part!
great news that your mum is keepign the mcn washing up to date too. yeh for helpful visitors!
ANna T - no idea what is up, but thinking of you anyhoo.
CheekyMonkey - yeh you on teaching yourself to knit - that's fantastic. DOn't worry, practice practice practice, you'll get the hang of the tension thing. i never progressed beyond knitting scarves but you enjoy it!
anyone after a bargain on envirosax, bonitobaby is the place to look right now, special price until mid june.
eej - was it you who was confessing to babylegs addiction? i think, if you use them, they're worth it. i'm finding them great under trackpants, jeans for the gap btwn socks and trouser bottoms. but for some bizarre reason, bilby - who is MAD about monkeys - REFUSES to wear her monkey huggaluggs! her favourite critter!:wall:
Katie Rabbit, I have both types of inserts for my swaddlebees osfm. Hemp and micro. What you wanna know girl?
They are very diff and TBH I havnt tried the hemp one yet cause it is really big and is in 2 pieces (but sewn together at each end-a shaped piece and a straight piece over the top of that) The micro fits perfectly and is much easier to put in.
Lil man wears them as NN at the mo so I have 2 layers of micro ans tho it is SOAKING by they morning, no leaks (ususally 10-11 hrs)
Am happy to measure for you if you want
Back from cold ole Melb. Was good but glad to be home. Travelling with baby but not with DP v hard work. Trying to get seatbelt done up on airplane with bubs in arms is interesting....
Dunno how women with bub and toddler manage...
My baby was Sooo well behaved. But the poor lil man now has a snotty nose, a cough and is sneezing. No temp and is eating and smiling fine.
When do I take him to docs?
Looks like my cuz gunna try cloth. Am going to send her some of my stash. Her mum is the most amazing sew - er and even has an embroidery machine, so they will prob make some after they decide what suits.
Anna, sorry you are having a crappy time
Mel,what a horible dream. I had some awful and very frightening ones when preg. I think its cause your core temp goes up a bit. I always have strange dreams when warm.
To everyone else:hello:
Am off to look at embroidery and do ANOTHER load of washing
WOLB Cee jays fitted (all pockets and pretty ones are on clothes horse from weekend)
Morning Ladies.
Teruteru - is your machine old and you want a new one? Or you just need to sweet talk the machine not DH? lol Good luck with the sewing, I wish I had more time to do it!
Gigi - always a fountain of knowledge. I hope Bilby falls in love with her monkey huggalugs again soon, they're gorgeous! I have some coming for DS in the co-op.
Ok ladies - I know this isn't the place and I'll probably post elsewhere later BUT - I love u guys and know you always give the best advice :)
So! We're going overseas for our honeymoon and taking DS with us. He will have turned 2 just a week before the trip and I have no idea how much he will weigh. My question is - Is there a carrier out there that will hold DS at 2yrs old, but also suitable for a newborn? I don't like big bulky things. Do the sling type ones really help in holding that much weight? I know it won't hold him on it's own but I've seen women wear toddlers on their hips with a sling around their bum?
Nappy news: About to go put a load in the machine while DS and I play outside. Just had to wait for the morning dew to dry up.
WOPB: About to change him - to whatever he chooses.
CM - Ergo Ergo Ergo Ergo Ergo!!! You can get an infant insert when you have another bub, but they are the best. The physio has recommended one for me, but it isn't in the budget so the wrap for the early days is the next best thing. I am no pro knitter either hun, just been doing it since I was little. Some of mine still have holes but I can manage patterns.
Just back from the Ob. Dont think we will make it to Monday, I am 3 cm Dilated. She did a S&S so hoping that has got me going a bit more!! Fluff can be used sooner rather than later hopefully!! I have told DH which nappy I want used first, so even if I dont get to do the first nappy, she will have the one I want on.
WOEB: Mommy's Touch pocket with Mother Ease booster and booster from a dead nappy.
WOSB: Bumble Bee CT Couture.
Ali! Ignore my txt hahaha
Yay how exciting is that! I am getting all gooey waiting for Leahs arrival. I'm glad things are moving along so you can use that NB fluff chicky!
Woooo how exciting, a baby to go gooey over.
Just watching the mother of octuplets on Oprah :) Oh what a handful!
Woohoo I have fluffy news!!!! (one good, one bad so bear with me here!)
So the good stuff first!!!!! If my mailman wasnt so old and kinda creepy I would be totally in love with him right now.....yesterday he delivered my order from Maz and one freaking huuuuuge bag of fluffiness from Clothiebumz! OMG I spread everything out on the lounge room floor and patted everything over and over lol (please tell me Im normal!) So right now I have nappies after nappies madly going thru pre-washes  Seriously how many times should I wash before I can let them loose on Joshie's bum???
Ok now the not so good news (while Im still on a fluffy high) So after my mail yesterday I was still on a high this morning and got brave enough to finally try my CT Coutures on Josh.....two hours later and his crotch is soaked thru...new singlet and pants needed  Same problem I had with some other pockets I tried awhile ago! I have chucked another one on him now.....I wont give up lol (DH will kill me after all the money I spent lol) Ive adjusted the snaps differently this time hoping that will fix the issue! I prewashed them three times...was that maybe not enough?? Oh ladies please tell me these gorgeous nappies are not a write off!!!
WOJB: CT Couture (the brown & green spots one)
Helen - See how you go this time, but if it still has issues, email me (PM box is filling up faster than I can empty at the moment  so sorry to anyone who has been trying to get through).
CM - I only just saw it  Had been on for half an hour before my appointment this morning but didn't have time to reply. Nice to know you are checking in though :) The wait wasn't too long today, showed up 20 minutes late, and was in the consulting room an hour and a half after my scheduled time, so they were running earlier than usual today. And NB cuddles are good for getting the hormones right for TTC
WOTBs: Unchanged. Now finally alseep.
**double post**
just a quicky ladies
kitt3n no longer rep for OBT :(
still cant figure out why we have that hole. i might have to try to find a needle and sew it up!
wohb - swaddlebees OSFM fitted/,maz cover
Ali - is that an invite for NB cuddles? ;) Your wait was quite good today! I remember waiting no less than a few hours every time I had a hospie visit. I tell ya, getting all those pregnant women to sit in one position for that long is bloody uncomfortable. They never had an excuse for running so late either, so why not change their schedule around a bit to accommodate everyone properly?
Kitt3n - I've been thinking about the hole problem, can't think of anything everyone else hasn't already suggested. Could it have lodged in a weird position while sleeping and put strain on the snap? Wait. Is it even near the snap? Probably not lol See I'm no help.
WOPB: Light Blue BBH Magic-all. Hopefully he is going to fall asleep soon.
CM - Of course :D
Kitt3n - I know there is some dodgy bamboo around again (I've got 1 dodgy booster waiting for a replacement to arrive, and I treated it the same as all my other nappies and only 1 has had any problem, and they dont get hung with any weight on the snaps). Maybe take a pic and send it to SHP and ask for a replacement booster.
WOOHOO! Count me in Ali, you name the time and the place and I'll be there. hehehe
Speaking of bamboo boosters girls. Do any of you find that they get kind of blotchy dirty looking marks on them? They're all topped with suedecloth or microfleece but the underside of them looks oddly dirty.
MLM- would love the measurement of the one that fits properly- microfibre? I just wanted the length as well as the width at each end and the middle (four measurements all up!) I would really appreciate it, thanks.
Alioops- I PMed you but as you said your box is full. I will get the foldups another time-no worries. Thanks!
Hi girls,
No fluffy mail today. I thought I might get mt CT basix's today but not yet
Helen did you let them dry between prewashes? If you don't let them dry it doesn't really increase the absorbancy.
CM- yep a ergo would do the job, I have an ergo but Em gets suffocated on my boobs on the front I ahven't tried her on the back. Their new sports model is lighter and not as bulky as the other ones. Also I just bought an Ellaroo mei tei hip carrier. Love it! Not sure if that would be any good for a new bubba tho. A sling is the best for little bubbas. Em hates the sling now she is big tho and so do I!
Ali is right about NB cuddles being the best for hormones!!! I had gone 4 months without AF and saw my cousins newborn and she fell asleep on my belly so I had to hold for ages and bam AF came as I was cuddling her! 3 months later I was PG!
Gigi I used her BL under her trackies today! It is so super cold!!!!! I am worried if I ahng the nappie sout they will ice up!!!
Kitt3n yay for Laaaa being 6 months old!!!!
Katie Rabbit, have PMed you
BBBRRRR, cold and windy here too
WOLB Ceejay fitted
Thanks for the Ergo recommendations girls. I will go check out this new sports model. I just like something really easy and relatively small.
I'm having fluff withdrawls. I got so much small fluff for a while there, now nothing :( Still waiting on DS's backpack and juice box holders from a certain Limey store and have a CT layby that I want to pay and receive NOW. If I did that DF would see the large withdrawl from the bank, if I pay little bits he doesn't notice lol
Ladies when you say cold, what temps are we talking? It was cold here this morning and last night, but that was only 9degrees at the lowest and 20degrees at 9am. That's cold for us :D lol
cold down here was minimum 4.4 at midnight last night, max 10.0 at midday.
cold cold cold!
tomorrow we have paed appt - thinking we might try out widdlewuns on our girl... can't remember the exact weight range though - not sure if she's still a bit small-ish - need to go look it up for widdlewuns and itti's to see when it might be worth trying her in them - she seems so little!
had our first "near" poosplosion today - nappy and baby a mess, but the only bit that leaked out of the nappy was caught by the mazaliscious cover - woot!
WOEB - Maz flat nappy (i love mummy/daddy print) and maz cover
Teru - Can you please PM me about your naps you're getting rid of? Thanks :)
Girls GK are OSFM yeah? What would you honestly say the smallest proper fit would be? Weight wise I mean.
i need to sweet-talk the machine. its not that old but for some reason the bottom thread always tend to beard-up...would love to get a machine that can embroider once i get my sewing skills up to scratch so i can bring my plan to life
re: going overseas
im glad i bought the Ergo with us earlier this year. ive never used a ring sling, but i now have a MeiTai which i use at home when DS is clingy but i need to get housework done. I also have a BubbaSling (think thats the name) which is sitting in a corner waiting for a new home. It was good when he was small but now it's too much burden on the shoulder. never got round to trying a ring sling
* how often would DS need to be carried?
* is it just for times when he gets tired?
* will your DH use it as well?
* how many bags/other items will u be carrying at the same time?
* whats your carrying position preference?
* whats your budget?
Ergo
* provides good support
* DH can use as well
* old style: packs down to roughly A4 size but around 2" thick (roughly)
* has pocket at the front
* has the hood to cover baby when sleeping/raining
* min $100
* would love to lend it to you but we use ours quite often
* quite uncomfortable to sit with due to the waist thing (i think anyways)
MeiTai
* packs SMALL
* easy to sew
* handy to have in bag JIC
* cheap-ish
Padded sling
* pretty bulky
* weigh isnt well-proportioned
* u can borrow mine if u want
u can tell my preferences dont u?? i take DS to the footy in the Ergo. Gives him padding to sit on lol. best to find someone with an Ergo to try it, some ppl dont like it but DH fell in love with it when he tried it at the Babys market.
done deal
GK are OSFM. the fit depends on ur bub as GKs r pretty wide (15cm). didnt buy them till monsta was ard 3mths
to make it nappy related...im in love with my microfleece liners once again
how do silk liners retain their antibacterial or healing properties, for nappy rash, when you wash them? Doesnt the detergent strip it off?
rayray- quote frm another forum
"if you want to retain the seracin as much as possible definitely hand wash in lukewarm water with a pea sized amount of wool wash/mild detergent"
"the liner should have a waxy feeling. you get a thin film of it on your fingers if you rub your thumb together with your finger with the silk between them"
hth
Washed my fluff today for the first time - I'd have to say it was very exciting - is that sad? Just to check - three washes with a dry between each is the best way to get them ready isn't it?
Everything but the BBH's seem to be dry already. I think that is because they are hemp - is that right? I should have my first fluffy mail coming by the end of the week and I am looking forward to it.
Eej - you sure are fertile! ahlf your luck!
ALioops - waiting to read your birth announcement! so exciting!
Ry - the drying time is often related to the absorbency
cotton - lowest absorbency, quickest to dry
bamboo - highest absorbency, slowest to dry
also depends on how many layers of a fabric is sewn together.
MARLENE - with the hemp swaddlebee inserts, they need 8 - 10 prewashes to build up absorbency and also TO SHRINK to fit the swaddlebees pockets.
at Jack's age, bilby would have flooded the microfibre sb insert in half an hour, you must have a VERY light wetter, if he can use that for a NN for 11 hours!!! holey moley.
the sb inserts look enormous, until you've done all your prewashes. and don't forget to stretch the nappy out, the entire rise, to get them in. you'll be glad you did.
Cheeky Monkey - when are you getting married? how excitement.
WEATHER REPORT
down to 4.7 overnight
up to 15 today
brrrrr
i used to hang bilby's nappies on the clothes airer, no traisping out in the cold for me, hanging up nappies in the comfort of inside home (still so cold i wear my ugg boots and the thickest woollen jacket i have!).
and we don't even live somewhere that it snows! LOL.
Cheeky MOnkey
my bamboo items look very standard white
it's the hemp items that are a "natural" colour and have little brown specks in them, not blotches, just specks.
my dh has found a cheap way to buy snap presses direct from the manufacturer overseas, he says he will buy me one as a late mother's day pressie, would be nice! i get sus about OS sales, like, i believe it when it happens, but i hope this happens (not just another one of dh's "gunna do's".) i will able to snap bibs and pinnies to my heart's content then.
wotbb: KK AIO and woollen longies, sleeping on brollysheet. 2nd night with electric blanket (my latest strategy to get her to sleep longer). i love her truely! i'd just love her MORE if she slept for a reasonable length of time!!!!
gigi- 3.3 here at 5am brrrrrr too cold !!!
no nappy news , super busy with life atm , hardly get to stop and fart let alone sit on the puter!!
wogb- from the smell of it - a big poo ......shes only had it on 20 mins since the last change ... which was a poo too !! but being held in by a bbh magic all !
GIgi - I'm getting married on the 22nd of August, the day after DS turns 2 and two days after our anniversary of becoming a couple many years ago :)
Oh, and are itti's boosters hemp? because thats what it's happening to. It looks very strange doesn't it, wonder why it happens.
Woohoo on the snap press - hopefully DH comes through for u this time. Do you make pinnies? Oh how I'd love to make one for my niece (and any little girls I might have!). Do you have an online pattern link or a paper one?
Ali - I hope Leah has arrived, or is about to! :) How exciting.
Lea - is Gabs one of those bubs that will only poop in a fresh nappy? DS was like that when he was her age.
Don't reall have much else. I'm housebound n can't even check my PO box for fluff. DF pulled the fuel hose off my car to replace it n can't find a replacement in town... can't put the old one back on as he broke it further. Who knows when I'll be able to use my car again!? MEN!!
WOPB: orange BBH magicall
Well i have been MIA from here fopr a while cos i have NO money to buy... still no luck getting our money back so were stuck with the $4000 added debt to our CC and our $3000 saving have gone for good also... but hey it could be worse... Hmmm *ponders* no it could be worse...
Things have been going well here... few days of sun here was great for getting that extra smell out of the naps... and also a few yukky poop stains... ahhh i love the sun... Wish it wasnt so windy though... The dog almost destroyed some of my flats after they blew off... :( But DS came to the rescue... He yelled out... "muuummm, the dogs got the fluffies... "lol. My heart sank thinking it was my IB's or the WW... lol.
Have a BB meet up next week but might not be able to go... just depends on money... ( gawd it sucks having to stress bout having a lowsey $40 to take the kids out...
Some one cheer me up show me some new fluff
Good Morning :hello:
GIGI- I think the post you directed at Marlene was for me. Tis me who leaves Lachy in swaddlebees micro fiber all night, but I have 2 inserts in the pocket so I think that is like 4 layers? I find the SB micro to be dense-er and fluffier than say, Happy Heinys. Bum G's micro is fluffy too but I recon SB are the best. Do they have something inside of them, or maybe just are of a better quality?
Am thinking SB are going to be best on my cuz kid as at the moment she looks like a little marshmallow :D Chubby doesnt do her justice.
CM- I have found the GK to be the bulkiest of th OSFM that I have purchased. The fold down at the front for NB size isnt a true fold down, there is no aplix on the inside so they kinda dont stick well, and you cant really use the GK boosters when folded down. You would have to put clothes over the top to hold it on JMO of course..
Also a bit wide in the crotch for lil chicken legs at the mo :)
BUT, I can see how when he is bigger, they will be great (pocket really neat, no fabric overhang out the back) and with the bamboo boosters will prob be the most absorbent of the pockets.
Also, the minkee is different to other minkees, not as nice as itti or maz, its shorter and the backing fabric is not as soft. However everyone raves about the longevity of the GK so maybe the diff fabric is the reason. However, in the future I will just get the pul ones.
morning ladies! guess what arrived today? my knitsperations woolies and OHHHHHHH!!! These will be handed down for generations I am sure (i actually have a lovely NB cardigan that was a hand-me-down to my granmother to use on my mum when she was born, still in perfect nic, used for all my autns and uncles, me, DD1, and laa its over 60 years old! so yes we take care of woolens i guess LOL). I'll put pics on FB sooner or later
I scored a beetlebum last night. DH agreed to it as it looked a little like fractals, gotta love that he put nerdism into a nappy
hgl - thank goodness it wasnt the WW! which reminds me, i have been meaning to ask if my insurance co covers fluff n stuff
rayray - i wash my silk liners in the machine, warm water, on woolens cycle with just a tiny drop of woolwash, BUT i take them out before they spin and they are fine. HTH
eej don't tell me that - one of my besties had her baby last week and when i held him i got that "gaaaaa" rush.... no no no i dont want my period back!!
but speaking of nookie i must admit i would really like to have a nice relaxing nookie session with hubby, not a "quick lets go before the kids wake up!!". **sigh**
ali - sending you my wishes :) and i think i will email shp with a pic, its just so strange.
off to the city for the day.
wohb - pookey pocket fitted/maz butterfly cover (need to get pics of my maz butterfly cover collection on fb for the butterfly lovers!)
Kitt3n - I had to reply to you first because you cracked me up. Nookie? The only person I know that calls it that is my MOTHER. hehehe I'm jealous of your knitted goodness too.
Shell - thanks for your opinion on the GK's. I have tons of nappies for DS but wanted some more OSFM that suit smaller babies well also. I've never seen a GK on a little bub with the fold down so had no idea what it would be like. I think I'll pass on buying any.
So that brings me to the question - what is everyones favourite OSFM/OSFA that they find really DOES fit small bubs properly? I have some CT's on layby already.
Jess - what a right ole PITA to be in debt but not have anything to show for it. How did the scam happen to you if you don't mind me asking? I don't have any exciting fluff to share with you, but I'm sure some of the other ladies do. Keep your chin up chicky.
ETA: I'm doing housework and every time I hear my e-mail "ping" to tell me there's a new reply I race over to read it. HOW SAD.
PING...........
Ha ha, did you come running?
See I am as sad as you
aww Shell the one I ignored and it was funny lol
Well I didn't ignore it, I was downstairs putting washing on ;)
