Question ladies -

how many terry flats, prefolds etc will I 'really' need for newborn??? I have a bizillion (well probably not that many but still around 60+ of all flats, prefolds etc combined) so I think I will figure out how many I will really really need as I know I have lots and probably more than what I will need.

I plan to do something very nice with the surplus stock - so realistically... 60+ is too many... what should I keep for myself and what amount should I do something really nice with??

Unfortunately not yet, but I do have blood streaked mucous and am getting some niggles, they just aren't regular yet. Maybe I should get the frame out and walk a bit.

TK - NB's do go through quite a few changes each day, and prefolds can be used as boosters down the track. If you have heaps of terry flats keep them as spew rags. I only use terry flats as nappies when I am desperate.

CM - this is not the coldest winter I have felt (Ice on my car multiple times last year) so for me to be putting a jumper on up here tells me that this is cold for Townsville. I grew up with a lovely fireplace mesmerising me until I got married.

CM, My OSFM stash and what I think....

GK, you know.

Happy Heiny, cheapest of the lot, fit not bad but the microfleece staydry inner is a bit flimsy (so is the pul TBH) and at the back where you put the insert in, the microfleece is kinda, big? You sort of have to tuck it it when on bubs as it wants to hang out. Comes with big and small micro booster. Aplix is the cheaper type.

Bum G, much nicer pul and inner and has a fold over bit at back of pocket so no tuck-ins
Booster has fold down snaps for small size and is nice thick micro. Comes with 2 boosters (i think??)

Pop In, not really a pocket, has lay in booster system, is prob trimmest of my OSFM, lovely soft outer shell, leg gussets and is the only one that would have fitted lil man from birth (3.9kg), having said that, dont know if it would fit a large toddler, seems to be a smaller nappy than the others.
The only thing I dont like so much is that the booster doesnt have stay dry fabric, is just like a bamboo terry stuff and lil mans nutsticles always look a little soggy when I take it off. But I have faith that it would contain explosions and could also be used as cover ;)

CT couture, nice and trim but a bit harryhighpants even when folded down to nb, has some boosting in shell so is a little longer drying. B better later, I recon.

Ummmmm, I think thats all I have. Oh, SB's too love them as well

Also have OSFM BBB fitteds. Still find them bulky tho and like my AIOs better. Am only keeping them at the moment cause the girls here tell me I will use them. (and I have like 12 of em :rolleyes:)

Shell - thanks for your rundown on the OSFM. I really don't know what to do. I don't like the idea of BumG's simply because so many people have had problems with them and I just don't want to risk it. Plus I'll be buying now and since I'm not PG yet warranty will be out by the time the baby even arrives let alone wears them lol Didn't even think of Happy Heiny or Pop-In's so I will go look into those soon. I like the fit of CT's on DS so even if they don't suit the next baby he can wear them. AHHH why so hard lol


Ali - Great idea to get walking, just don't put too much added pressure on yourself - Leah will come when she wants to :) Hopefully sooner rather than later! Can't wait to meet her. I hope she can work some fertility magic on me!

oh and I think that winter arrived earlier than usual in T'ville this year. It's not usually this cold this soon. Speaking of cold - we're going camping next weekend at Lake Tinaroo and it's going to be FREEZING cold. So cold that I need to go shopping and buy some winter clothes for us all. The most we own is a few pairs of tracksuit pants for DS.

CM, I would look at small itti bitti delish, I recon they are the closest to NB sposie trimness,you can always just use the shaped booster with the micro or bamboo little booster snapped to the back of it. They still fit lil man with tons of room to go.
You can get 6 for 165 or something like that and maybe get extra boosters.
There are also always lot of 2nd hand ones (some on nappy chic now)
Having said that, we NEVER had NB breastmilk poo or pooplosions (tho it may happen today...)

Shell I was trying to avoid buying too many small or NB sizes. I think I will do prefolds and covers in the early weeks but seeing that I will have 2 in cloth (hopefully next bub comes before TTing DS) I wanted more of the OSFM to cover both bums IYKWIM. I will get a few pre-loved smalls though.

Gigi- Yep I was very lucky! We weren't meant to be able to do it on our own cause on top of PCOS, DH had just finished chemo 3 months before as well. Hopefully next time round it will happen just as quick and I can get NB fluff!!!!

Hey EEJ - yeah I haven't been around that much. Been working this last week, so I knock off work at 4.30, drive to Maroochy and pick up DH, drive to my mum's house (which takes 45 minutes), have some dinner and a chat, drive home (45 minutes) and get the kids organised for bed, washing on, washing hung up, clothes ironed for next day, kids bags and nappy bags organised... blah blah blah... its 10pm before I even sit down and turn the computer on and check my emails!!!! Ridiculous. then we leave at 7.30am in the morning. crazy stuff, couldn't do this forever. Thank god its my last day filling in - then back to normal Fridays. couldn't put up with this - hard work working full time with two kids and doing cloth!! LOL

ETA - and according to the ring test (which is ever so highly accurate.. bwahaha..).. we're having another girl.

I got two pairs of babylegs today...aqua and orange stripe and flames...soooo cute! That's the only fluff I've had for a while :( I will paying the rest of my fluffybubs layby off on Saturday...so will be getting 5 new OSFM minky flufflybubs next week, yayyyyy!!!

CM- Hubbies card got swipped at an ATM. :( cash with drawls on the visa card and same with the savings accounts. Because they werent transfered to accounts its hard to find who they have gone too... :( They have video fottage just shows a tall mane with hat on so they have no leads and they "dont have to compensate" :( were fighting but so far they have only given back $600 of our money. :( But hey we still have our house and car and DP has a job so were not that bad off... :( we'll just have to do our best to get back on track... :( no holiday for us this yr.

To those of you who have been to the Sydney Baby expo already.... what specials did Itti Bitti have for buying 6 snap-in-one D'lish's??? Is it the same deal as per their website? buy 6 for $165.00 with free postage??
Reason I ask, is that the brissy expo is very soon and i am wondering if it will be even cheaper at the expo or the same deals??? If so, i may aswell just order them on their website if its the same deal iykwim??

back from the paed today. DS is allergic to egg (we knew already but the test confirmed) and cow's milk so no chocolate or icecream for me boohoo :( grr at the paed, she said u shouldnt have elastic on him (he was wearing a SB pocket) or necklace (he was wearing amber). i dont care, they're not where his eczema is so he's keeping them on!

CM- ive found most OSFM didnt fit DS until he was 2mth old. the BG was one of the 1st ones he could fit in followed by Haute. I dont like the HH as the velcro is shonky (comes undone in the machine) and as pointed out the microfleece sticks out the end. the Haute has the best velcro of the lot (i prefer the snap ones than the velcro ones). the velcro on BG is tabbed back onto suedecloth so its a bit fiddly to undo with one hand. u can adjust the thigh on Bumware. as mentioned, GK not the greatest to use on NB as u'll be putting velcro on the suedecloth, but then again NB are small enough so the tabs would cross over?? for the 1st month or so, we used a combination of muslin flats with cover and sposies (we were given heaps when DS was born)

hi all - just popping in to say we had Emerald at the paed today - and he'd NEVER seen an MCN! what the??? he was very sweet, asking questions about what they cost, how they work etc - all the while cleaning up from the VERY dirty nappy our girl had just filled for him! he was rather impressed with the widdlewun she was wearing - but balked at the cost! don't think he let it sink in how often they can be reused...

Bubba is now back to within 80g of her birth weight, so no more paed appts! wooo hoooo! am so happy!

ummm, nappy related - well, nb monkey doodlez and widdlewuns apparently get the Emmy Rose seal of approval - MD was filled within a few minutes of being put on after her bath - hmmmm. we did have a small leak, but i think that was more cos the booster wasn't sitting quite straight and we had a small leg gape. the WW managed to contain everything nicely.

WOEB - she's back in a flat and cover - simple for mummy and daddy for night times at the moment... but only short term - we're slowly testing the MCN's to see what works and what doesnt - and when we're all sorted, we might have minimal time in flats unless mummy has been slack on the washing front!

BG - oh don't you just love showing off to those people who have never seen them! Good to hear they are holding up well on your little girl!!!

Cheeky monkey - you are more then welcome to check out our ergo, home made HAB and peanut shell if you want to try them first. Also there is a baby expo happening in T'ville in Sept which will hopefully have a few nappy sellers at it for your newborn nappy hunt! We used BumG - great with little insert, Hautes - smallest min 2.5kg, baby Kanga - liked this one as bub had chunky thighs. My SIL used the abbygro with newborn and loved it, she also liked the Bumware petits (8kg) and swaddlebess (med from 5kg) but these wre both sized.

Her "knickers with insurance" got tested out yesterday at the library. combination of her being distracted, naughty (i will not answer mummy when asked is it wee wee time?) and me taking too long to find nearest loo for bilby. Good not to have to clean up a puddle though, glad we have the trainers.

bonito baby has a sale on envirosax for anyone interested. My state has just banned plastic bags at supermarkets, so very relevant here especially. (but i have been using them for last two years anyhoo). i don't like the quality of the envirosilks, but i love the envirosax. WOuld be nice if they made some PURPLE ones though LOL.

Marlene - i didn't realise fluffybubs MADE osfm, cool, they are a very well made brand, i've seen teh inserts for the Mediums and Larges (night versions), great quick dry design. (and they are NOT side snappers). I would love to know how you scored FIVE!! well done petal!

I think the cut off is 22 weeks up here on the coast - I'm sure I had the one done for Miss M around 22 weeks because I couldn't get in any earlier.

But yes, I'm not further than 22 weeks, and I'm over 10 weeks... so you have around a 3 month window there to guess from... LOL

Well, my CT coutures are still leaking after an hour - I have tried snapping them every which way. Do I put them away for a few months - or sell them now and get some more I know fit well?

I think X is a heavy wetter (at 4 weeks!). She leaked through a BBH bamboo fitted with wool soaker cover in 3 hours. The BBH was used too, so was at max absorbancy. :doh:

Candice, I still can't believe Miss X fits into the medium magicalls! She doesn't even look like she could!!!! she's tiny!!!!
I'm not too happy with my BBH fitteds I find Miss A leaks thru hers very quickly also and they are soaking wet and start smelling :( im not a fan of the fitteds like i thought I would be.....

It was my first proper Hyena win too!! I don't know how I did it...I had three windows open but managed to get them all on one window....luckily I had scored a Layby spot at their previous stocking, although I couldn't get any nappies at that one, LOL. I am paying the final balance tomorrow and can't wait to get them!!:D

Have had a couple very busy days. Mitchell had a school footy gala day on Wednesday where he played 4 games of footy...then had footy training that afternoon, then he had his weekly school footy game today and footy training this afternoon and tomorrow he has his usual Saturday club footy game. I thought he'd be exhausted by now, but he just loves it!! I tried to get him to have this afternoon off from training...but he wanted to go:rolleyes: And, of course, I can't miss a game, LOL, so I'm out all day watching him.

Loving this cold weather...I don't think I would care of it was autumn/winter all year round.:D

*sigh* I am devestated Im going to have to pack away my MCNs in a month for who knows how long because the idea of traipsing around Sydney in the freezing cold to a laundromat to wash 3 lots of MCNs everyday isnt appealing lol Im going to figure out what my quick dry ones are for River and use those to cut down on the sposie usage (I cant believe he'll have to go in sposies part time :( ) until we get a house.

The older boys are in sposies overnight as we've had a bad run of NR and they wet right through by morning even with a cover! Just goes to show sposies arent as absorbent as you think because theyve never wet through night nappies.

Anna :hug: I hope you get a house quickly! Do you know any BB members in the area you are aiming for?

Not much going on here. Just realised today that DF has NEVER put a load of nappies in the machine. Probably wouldn't trust him to either. Oh and I just put a load of nappies on the line, three days worth. Only 6 nappies! DS has been spending too much time in undies lol
