Oh plus another 30 because we are a cohabiting couple.

anyone up for a good poo story? laa had the poo exlplosion of the century a few days ago.

i had no idea that she had done one , just a routine change...... untill......

i blew a raspberry on her belly and then rubbed my forehead on her belly (this makes her crack up).

when i pukked my head back up a piece of hair was in my face. so, i put it back.

and discovered something warm and gooey in my hair.

lots of something warm and gooey! looked down - there it was, now over the top of her nappy at the front (no doubt thanks to the forehead tummy rub).

call DH to help me

we pick her up, and it is alllllll over her back.

it could have filled a small tub of butter eek!!

this was in a cute tooshie AIO - but to give it credit, i am sure there is not a nappy known that could have contained this thing. thank goodnes we were home!

Ali - Do the CT's fit Leah now?? How heavy is she, sounds like she's grown? I am interested because Elly was under 6lb born, no idea why. We were 9, 10 & 11lbs born, my mum was 13lbs and my hubby's family all over 8lbs too - I am hoping to grow a fatter baby next time but just in case I have another scrawnster, am wondering how long it would be before I could reasonably put a newborn into my OSFA CT's and Fitteds?

Yep she fits now. She is 3.59kg. Started fitting around 3.2kg (around 7lb3oz)

Ali - thanks for the tips on storage. I will try to start my strip washing tonight and go get one of those moisture things tomorrow. So glad to hear your princess is putting on weight. Did you get my SMS today?

Yes I did, sorry I forgot to reply!! Should be ok. Em's issues are with Lactose, so usually dairy free, or lactose free. If you want me to make sure there is stuff she can eat I can make something.

Speaking of Em's diet, I think DH has been using the Continental chicken stock in her pasta (we use spag instead of buying noodles, it's cheaper) coz she is reacting again. Continental are crap, there is milk solids in everything!! Why do they have to use it in chicken stock? There is no dairy in chicken!! Blooming using fillers!! Bleurch to her poos!!

Leah is pooing more now. I changed 2 poos and DH changed 1 yesterday, and I have already changed 1 today, I hope she saves the rest for him!! They are soooooooo messy!!

Ali - gabbi is like that with gluten , companies fill everything with wheat/gluten as a thickener ..i cant just give her something , and when i ask "does this have gluten in it " i get looked at like im stupid ... and usually the people have no idea whats in the food they are selling so they say " i dont know " and my poor baby has to eat boring crap because cafes and food shops cant give me a friggen answer !!!!! arrrrggg mankes me angry ..
I got longies today!!! about 2 sizes too big but they are pink and soft so i am happy .... my grandma made them for me an im going to commission her to make a skirty for the summer time

laybyed 2 bitti boos and brought one from the cloth nappy shop . also brought a bits for bots fitted but is still a bit wide in the crotch ..

Thanks Ali, they fit a much smaller baby then I thought they would then. Wasn't sure about pooplosions out the legs on such a teeny bub. Good to know.

Okay, we're going to be starting on our MCNs probably later today (only 3 sposie's left from the one pack we decided to begin with - figured we'd start with focusing on getting feeding right first then the MCNs).

I need to ask a really basic question - how often should he be changed? DS usually poos (very loudly) while feeding on the first side each feed, so about every 3 hours. (still working out how often he wees - don't hear them as clearly )

I usually change DD every 3 hours (unless poo) and it is fine for us. And if I am putting her down for a long nap or going out I always change her into a fresh, dry, leak-proof nappy. It really depends, if you have a heavy wetter or nappies with less absorbency you will need to change more regularly, or if you find bub is prone to nappy rash will want to keep as dry as possible, though that has only ever been a problem here once teeth started. Congrats too!!

Liz - I try to check Leah every 2 hours, but I wont wake her to check. If she is unsettled and not hungry then usually it is a wet nappy issue or gas. She usually chucks a little bit while I change her, so kills 2 birds with 1 stone.

WOTBs has not changed, but Leah is about to wake up for a feed, so she will get changed.

three hours for a newborn is what most people do with disposables. With cloth, it's more often. Nappy rash is caused by poo and urine coming into contact, so my first priority was changing my nb immed there was a poo. Every bub poos differently, i had one that pooed tiny amounts but very frequently, i was doing up to 20 changes a day. Sometimes i would change her and then 15 mins later splurty splurty spurt spurt - yep, new one needed. THe Little Squirt got a very big work out!!!

i came across other bubs who saved up the poo for a week at a time! so every bub is different.

How long your child sleeps is another variable. PUL is good for short wears, MM fleece windpro is good for longer wears, some bubs who sleep long, need night nappies earlier than others. Some bubs tolerate a DREAM change, it will wake other bubs. So much is "try it and see". My bub coudl tolerate a dream change as long as i didn't put a aplix nappy on her, it was the SOUND of the aplix opening (rip rip) that woke her up.

the baby pooing LOUDLY is actually a good thing, you can use your EARS to let you know when to change, instead of just your NOSE! ha ha.

nb's wee so often (i was told) cos their bladder is the size of a marble, so they have no-where to store it.

so with my child, she needed alot of changes, we did them and avoided nappy rash. Some parents believe nappy rash is a normal thing and choose to leave the nappies on longer and put lots of nappy rash cream on their bub at every change. so it's a personal choice. Sometime it's just the situation (stuck in traffic, run out of clean mcn whilst out) and you just have to "wear it".

another way to help avoid the nappy rash is to give them "nappy free time" on a mat. You can buy mats specifically made for that purpose, you lie them on it, no nappy, in winter, i would put baby leg warmers on their legs, let them kick about naked (with heater on) - of course they will piddle on the mat (which is waterproof), so then you clean bub up, put fresh nappy on, and chuck nappyfree time mat in the wash.

if you are a sewer, the mats basically are:

• waterproof fabric on bottom layer e.g PUL
• absorbent fabric in the middle e.g sherpa, bamboo, hemp, or many layers of cotton
• staydry fabric on the top layer e.g microfleece

(mcn fabrics mainly, specific to mcn supply sites, but you can get microfleece at spotlight).

How often you change a nb:
it also depends on what sort of nappies you are using. i had three dozen, simple, quick drying options, so was not fussed. (prefolds, fitteds, contours and covers with leg gussets).
If i had a smaller number of slow drying options, maybe i would have been fussed. (with having something clean and dry to put on her, next change).

and how often you wash the nappies, also comes into it. My strategy was to do a nappy wash, when the nappy bucket was full, when i was doign 20x a day, that didn't take long! the sooner you wash them, the sooner they dry. And with things like nb covers, they are pricey and i coudln't have dozens of them! (i think i had six). they dry really fast, but i couldn't have them sitting in a nappy bucket for long - not with runny explosive poos happening constantly! those covers were so good, i NEEDED them as available as possible.

being an older, first time parent, i was so freaked out by the responsibility of suddenly caring for this tiny little person, i didn't mind the frequent changes, it allowed me to monitor her health, and i found it reassuring that she was having enough wet and dry nappies per day. my midwife said the opposite was the worry, if they didn't wet enough and got dehydrated.

Well we did our second and final "Preparation for Marriage" session today and it really was as I thought -a piece of poop. I don't know why the church insists you do it. Our final part was having to tell each other three reasons why we are getting married - and it couldn't be "because I love you" and couldn't have anything to do with children. We tell each other these things every day so no idea why we had to pay $150 to do it lol

I had a thought about my nappy storage, and do you think it would be acceptable to put them into vacuum seal bags? The type you use for storage of clothes/blankets etc. Was too busy to start it today so tomorrow it is.

Ali - I've got no idea how to cook anything dairy or lactose free. If you can give me a recipe I can make some cupcakes or something - I just have no idea where to find a recipe or which ones are ok. I'm happy to do it though.

So DS's birthday and birtday party is the day before my wedding - what a bloody hectic month August will be. The marquee for the wedding is being put up the day before the wedding so we're taking advantage of it and using it for the birthday party as well.

Gigi - Don't rule out all hope of another NB. You never know what the big man has planned for you

Kitt3n - I remember doing something similar with DS when he was a wee one. I was bouncing him up and down on my knees and didn't realise with every bounce I was pushing poop out the sides of his disposable lol Bet you washed your hair today

ETA: My sister wants to borrow all of my MCN for use on her daughter until we have another bub. I REALLY don't want to give it to her, but I feel so selfish for saying no. She gave me a heap of baby clothes etc. when she had a girl after two boys so she has helped me lots. I just feel so protective over my MCN. I'm afraid she wouldn't wash them properly etc. and they're worth too much to destroy. All fairly new because I only put DS in them from January this year.

Its more about the ingredients than the recipe, I use dairy free marj instead of butter (not all marj is dairy free) and lactose free milk instead of normal milk. I just follow a normal recipe and read labels on ready made.

I just put the washing on and there were 6 poos in there. 4 Leah poos and 2 Emma poos, in 24 hours!!! bleurgh!!

cm- i wouldnt lend them to her, even if its only going to be in storage. clothes, ok fine. MCN, stay RIGHT AWAY FROM THEM!!! alot of what-ifs, mainly due to care. its too personally for them to get wrecked...

monsta was a poo squirter too, when they say bf babies dont poo everyday itsa LIE!!!! he shiat everyday. lucky he doesn hv a habit of doin it at night though. i use to change him every feed so every 2-3hrs. still am now @ 9mths!

just a quick thought on storing MCN - I vacuum-packed some when I took them on holidays in January, and after just a day and a half they smelled like toxic plastic! The bags left a horrible stink. I have had the same problem with some clothes I stored too. Had to air everything out and still had to wash stuff to get rid of the stink. But it depends on the brand of vac bags you use. I have some older bags that don't make stuff smell bad. Be cautious of the ones with green twist-close valves and green printing on them! I think they were from Kmart.

CM - I would be very hesitant about lending my stash too. I think I'd be more comfortable enabling and buying gift vouchers for online MCN stores, and letting your sister discover the addiction for herself, and the thrill of finding a nappy that fits just right!

Right, off to find the non-stinky vacuum bags. Going to QLD for two weeks, and I have to take the necessary stash plus the BumGs to be repaired. And still only 1 suitcase/20kg limit.

DH is annoying me , the footy is on and he keeps making man noises at the tv , woke up dd , he then looked at me as if to say go settle her , it was an ovbious case of - you woke her you settle her .. so he chucked a strop and now is grumpy ... we have iq so atleast he could pause the game ... geez

oh .. i do give away the dodgy nappies that arent right for us to my sister ... but i would never lend anyone my stash ..im not going to lie . i am very selfish

Ooh good thanks girls now I don't feel so bad. I thought I was just a paranoid selfish idiot lol No nappy lending for me. Couldn't bare the thought of having them mistreated. Plus I don't trust my sister with poops - she can't stand yucky things like poop or vomit so I can't imagine her handling a poopy MCN.

Went to sizzler for dinner tonight - feel like such a pig.

DS has a snotty nose poor munchkin, needed eukybear rub on his chest and feet before bed.

Oh and thanks for the info on the vacuum bags. I can't remember the brand but ours have white vacuum parts and no writing on them. From Target I think?

that's reassuring to hear abou the cooking - not as scary as i imagined.

as a nb, bilby could poop easily ten times a day, six poops for two kids in 24 hours,sounds good to me.

by the time i put the nappy bucket of used nappies in the washing machine (when bilby was a newborn), there was no poo on the nappies, it had all been Little Squirted down the loo, we got excellent value out of the little squirt, still not ready to let it go. it was very useful at the start of toilet training. i worry the day i sell it, is the day she regresses and then i will regret having sold it!

and Teru, whoever said that bf bubs don't poop much, never met bilby! she could poop as a Olympic sport! gold medal style! and she was (and still is) breastfed.

the difference i heard, about nb poop, is that breastfed babies' poo smells sweeter than formula nb poops. and that formula takes longer to digest than bm, so i assume that means, longer between voids?

wotbb: she now fits in the small (at the end) and the medium (at the beginning) blueberry trainers. my non eating bilby MUST be putting on weight SOMEHOW! (by osmosis!!!).

god she is funny, trying to pull up her own knickers after a loo visit, she pulls them SO high that i cringe! (hipster knickers that are meant to be low on the body).

blimey midnight and i still didn't get to facebook tonight, so much to catch up on.

Cheeky Monkey - what is your sister's attitude re learnign how to wash and care for MCN? If she is interested and willing to learn, even practise with you around, i might consider the lend. If she is arrogant, "nothing to it, dont' hassle me", then i wouldn't. you know her best, if you think she would be lazy and not look fter them, listen to your gut instinct. i would want to know WAY IN ADVANCE, that she would buy you new, any she stuffed up. Does she normally keep her promises?

lending anything worth so much money, really worth being cautious. if in doubt, don't. esp special ones you hyenaed.

i was lent some nb fitteds, but i think my friend knew how fussy (anal retentive) i would be about caring for them! She wanted to use them for her next child, so i was very conscious of that, when i used them on the frequently pooping bilby. without the little squirt, i would have not felt so confident.

i typed all that wearing gloves, brrr it's cold here! (and bilby still insists on sleeping ON TOP of her bedding!) she's too mobile for a sleeping bag thingy now.
