Although AF is MIA but i got a BFN.
Hi Ladies,
NaNa I just wrote in your other thread I'm so glad you are all ok. I can't believe anyone would do that!!! Just awful.
Maz!! I missed you too!! How good will your holiday be..yay!!
CM I hope whatever it is it can be sorted!!
Cream questions can I use the Moogoo excema cream with cloth or do I need a liner? And canaesten cream is that ok or need a liner for that?
We have mega rash too and sposies and sudocream weren;t doing anything so I put her back in cloth and went to to the doc and now we have a steriod cream and canesten.
Did I say I hate being back at work!!!??? I have a huge pile of nappies to wash but the washing machine is to noisy to put on while em is sleeping.
i'm not positive what BFN stand for Kazbah, but i THINK i get the gist, are you pregnant sweetie? CONGRATS!!!!
Charmlea - WHERE are the capris/skirty too big?
the great thing about woolly items, is that they still work (e.g keep baby waterproof) EVEN if they are too big. You just draw in the waist to fit (using drawstring).
if they are too long in the length, use them as longies.
if they are too long as longies, take a hem up.
this is what i did, as bilby was and is such a shrimp. Because fleece and PUL covers, HAVE to fit so exactly, it was a pleasant surprise to find out that woollen items are so "forgiving" in the fit department. Loose woollies STILL stay waterproof. (as long as you lanolise them).
Sweetpea - congrats on reaching your milestone. The first "going out with MCN", the first "night nappy", the first time i used the Little Squirt, the first time i washed a load of used mcn (as opposed to the pre-washing i did whilst pregnant), the first time i used a swim nappy on bilby in a public pool - they're all milestones. All things i DREADED, then made myself do, and then thought "that was easy, what on earth was i worried about?". Stuff you never quite believe will work - until you do it, and discover for yourself, "wow, it works".
Maz - i'm in public housing and i promise i am not a scarey neighbour.
Nana - the aftermath of the fire sounds yuck. I totally get your fear, the "what ifs" about the fire, being so close to your sleeping family.
Gigi BFN is big fat negative so no Kaz isn't pregnant :(
ok ladies i have a question, has anyone had a bad reaction from strangers in regards to mcn's.
I did today and was quite a bit taken back from it, admitingly Lachlan wasn't super stylish but he had on a zebra print monkey doodle and his flame softlegs. He had been wearing a plain black bbh but of course was wet when i got him out the car ,so a quick change in the school carpark....anyhow a table of Mums looked over and i heard one say OMG what has he got on and another one roll her eyes. I have seen this Mum do it before when he has been showing off his mcns.
tan32 - I did have a few comments or snide remarks in regards to MCN. I simply put it down to lack of knowledge. Not my problem really, just ignored it.
Thank-you all for being worried girls. Had an extremely bad day yesterday and wanted to murder someone. Just someone interferring and performing her best attempt to ruin my wedding day. Sorry to bring it here, didn't have anywhere or anyone to vent to.
XX
thank you for the education Ezymay, i am not up with all the terms (not an acronym? not sure what it is, three initials???), so have just embarrassed myself! but thank you for putting me straight, i'll know for next time.
Kazbah - so sorry to say the wrong thing to you! i thought it had something to do with pregnancy tests telling you you are pregnant. I hope your next pregnancy test brings you the result you want.
TAN32 - alot of people come out with negative stuff when they are ignorant about MODERN nappies, they just know about ANCIENT nappies (the napisan, cotton, the pins, the pilchers that leak), and they make their judgements based on OLD INFO.
Sometimes it also demonstrates close minded thinking. I have noticed that people of ALL ages and backgrounds, if they are OPEN minded, will ask and really be interested to discover about MCN. But people who are CLOSE minded, will not be at all interested, they just want to say negative things. it's not a dialogue, it's their monologue (of negativity).
my aim, when using mcn in public, was to just get on with it. i only talked about the mcn if asked, and i coudl tell people were geniunely interested. If all they wanted to do was be negative, i just changed topic. I had PND thru most of that time, didn't have the energy to convert anyone that wasn't really into it. So i put my energy into "modelling the change you want to see". I would love it if more bubs were in mcn, so i just did my thang (in mother's groups etc), showed using mcn was not hard, bilby showed off the cute mcn and her baby legwarmers all by herself, crawling and later walking around.
But i woudln't go into that type of situation (mother's group where i was the only one using MCN) and say "look at bilby's cute new nappy" etc, i just saved all my mcn talk for clothie threads like this one. I chose my battles LOL.
wotbb (what's on the bilby's bot): blueberry trainers and woollen longies
CHeekY MONKEy: last minute wedding dramas heh? aren't you having a birthday party for your son the day before the wedding too? i hope that will distract you from whoever is being a pain to you right now. What a pity they just can't either bite their tongue, or be happy for you.
Gigi - (for some reason I just typed Bilby, then realised and changed it. Hmm sleep deprived anyone?)
We are having a birthday party for DS on the friday yes. Thank-you for your kind words, I too am hoping it distracts me somewhat from the stresses of the following day. A lot to do this week and not beng able to sleep as I have thoughts racing through my mind of things I have to finalize is not helping. I will get there. Deep breaths and in a few days it will be over.
I too wish that "someone" could suck it up for one bloody day and get on with it. Unfortunately that person is rather selfish and will make every day about them.
Oh how I wish I could talk nappies. It used to brighten my mood so much.
Well we have BAD bad top and bottom molar poops going on over here... OMG
The 1 negitive to MCNS... Blerk...
I have had a few snide remarks about my choice of MCN and babyleg combo's... mainly lots of interest though... It never really bothered me all the negitivity... I still cop it from DP and MIL... It just makes me more determined to use them.
I actually dont live in a commision area hon...all the houses around me are privately owned. Its just a bad neighbourhood the stree behind mine
As for SA (smart arse) comments...yep we get them once is a blue moon but then I come back with
Oh do you want me to show you my cloth pad's then?
All the mum's at school support us with them and even ask me about them...doesnt help that my car has a huge Maz-a-licious sticker on the back window lol
I worked out that I have saved around the $4000 mark with both in cloth already.....and then there is me who hasnt bought a disposable pad for 4 years this december. So ive probably saved myself another say $500. Unreal isnt it
 Can I use that one Maz??
I'm yet to get any negative comments or remarks. To my face, anyway! I still get the same old comments from DP (insert whiny voice here) "but the washing takes up so much of your time". That's the quick, easy part! He doesn't know the half of it! If he knew how many hours I have spent trawling the net, putting fluffy things in my cart and taking them out again... searching, window shopping. No idea what he thinks I'm doing...
I'm not sure about the moogoo and liners, or canesten cream and liners. I think moogoo is ok without them. Actually, speaking of moogoo, I got some of the excema cream for DP's freaky feet and he's raving about how brilliant it is now. He has normal-looking feet for the first time ever. And I probably wouldn't have known about it if it wasn't for MCN! I'm loving the anti-aging cream, but I wish they did a "youthful exuberance" cream or something!
Thanks everyone for your comments and concern. I'm trying to convince myself that it was random stupidity, and it's ok to stay here, but DP wants to move now. Again...
WOAB: WCNN and pot of gold
Ah yes the comments. I've had them from a couple of people. But I have come to the conclusion that it is just those people trying to make themselves feel better about a choice they made (to use disposables) by putting someone else down. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with sposies - I don't care if other people use them or judge them based on it - but I don't see any reason why anyone would care that we are using cloth unless it is resentment at us for making them feel like they need to justify not doing so to themselves. (Did that make any sense, I swear these things make sense in my head, but when I try and type them I'm all over the place )
Re: Canesten - It is fine to use without a liner - I often use it so without any problems - Canesten is water soluble so just comes out in the wash.
NaNa - My goodness! That's terrible - I hope that whether you move or not you can feel safe. People are so heartless today.
CM - Weddings are stressful - they shouldn't be but they are. Just try and put whatever (or whoever) at the back of your mind and try and enjoy the day for all the good bits - wedding days go sooo fast. And in the end, it's about who you're marrying, not the surroundings, so even if everything falls apart (and surely everything can't) - the reason for the day will always be joyful
lol you know a few people said that to me and I am the sort of person where if i am told that I can't do something WELL I WILL DAMN WELL SHOW THEM!
and I am proud to say laa has NEVER worn a sposie (lol "up yours baby" to those who said I would fail!)
We hardly use any creams (ran out of paw paw ointment at mothers day and keep forgetting to replace, have on tub of moo goo that DH and I also use and its still more than half full). Another great comeback is "well, why would you want to just throw away your money? I have seen second hand nappies with an original value of $35 ish dollars auctioned off for over $100. Try and get money back for your plastic crap!".
or "as a woman we know how awful it feels to sit on pads for a few days, how on earth could you make your baby sit on that for a FEW YEARS?"
.... then pull out your organic bamboo velour cloth pads as maz said hahahahahah!!
come on postie I want my sugarshots!!!
wohb - cute tooshie AIO
lol @ " let me show you my cloth pads " will be usuing that next time too :)
and who want to buy a 2nd had huggies

Well I've been lurking of late and not had much time to post, feeling a bit mentally drained.
I got some fluffy mail yesterday from fluffy bubs, so that brightened my mood a bit. Ok off to finishing hanging out washing, fun, fun.
WOJB blue magicall minky
if you couldnt be bothered making them check out booroi's prefolds - I have half a dozen they are fantastic - and when you dont need them as prefolds they make great pocket nappy stuffings :)

wohb - pookey pocket fitted/maz butterfly cover
Hello all :hello:

Alioops, where are you girl?
Arimeh, if you are lurking, Hello

MissyMel, did you get your BL order from the states, I ordered some last night, how long does it take?
We have had evil evil teething poos so I have ordered a rumparoos and a dream dri pop in (love gussets) had the biggest blow out in an itti the other day  and am very scared of it happening while we are out, so enabled myself ;)
Think that is all for now
Hello everyone else.......:D
Hey Shelley
Yup. Lurking. Busy. I try and post, but always get distracted. At the moment I'm waiting for DH to get off the phone so he can help me carry down boxes downstairs so I can sort out stuff for the garage sale.
oh but FWIW - I quite like my rumparooz that i have here. But I'm a gussets fan too.
Thats about all I have time for - boxes to move, crap to sort
WOAB: GF Super nights & dinosaur longies
WOMB: Ticklefish Tots Night Nappy - & longies.
MLM- would just like to let everyone know how incredible you are!!!!
Shelly went out on a limb and lent me 10 MCN's for the last week and a half to trial them and I am so sold!!!!
Without people like Shelly so many of us wouldn't have switched to MCN's and I just want to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for being so kind and trusting!!!
*another annoying newby question*
What covers/pilchers do you girls use for those using prefolds? ;)
Ella, it little things like that that makes me love this place :)
Arimeh - good luck with the garage sale! Is clothibumz having a garage sale too?? Where you moving to in Taswegia??
MLM - thanks hun. Getting my photo in the paper. That's exciting, isn't it? Too bad it was so cold today or I would've had DS's fluffy bot showing off!
Welcome Ella!
teagz - anything with a gusset! Personally, I used Thirsties x-small and small size PUL when DS was a NB, but with flanno flats. And Bummis super brites. They were the cheaper options, but worked really well for the amount of time I needed them. Otherwise maz-a-licious, and motherease Rikkis get pretty good reviews around here too. I found the Tots Bots to be huge, but the new ones don't have gussets apparently... I sent ours to LimeSlice. I guess they work for some. I haven't looked at PUL covers for a while now, there could well be some other new, better things around.
Is it just me, or does anyone else shudder just a little bit when you hear the word "pilchers"?? No offence, teagz, it just makes me feel a bit weird!
I'm catching up with a pg friend who's down from north Qld tomorrow. Hoping I can make another convert. Not like there's a shortage of cloth-users in Townsville, is there? Plenty of folks to help out if I succeed!
WOAB: GF bumblebee
Thanks - we're moving to Launceston. Can't answer your other question, will have to PM me or message me on facebook ;)
Teagz - Motherease Rikki all the way for me mate. Bout all I have left in my collection of PUL covers and the only ones I trust not to leak. The others just don't sit tight around my kids legs and we get leaks, and because they have super skinny waists (unlike me!) so it never actually sits tight enough on them. The baby beehinds ones irritated their skin too.
Ella - shelley is awesome. we love her.
hi Teagz,
prefolds can go in any sort of cover, but leg gusset covers are SPECIFICALLY designed to hold prefolds really well.
i put prefolds into other covers (when the leg gusset ones were all in the wash)
i put fitteds under the leg gusset covers.
really, whatever fits nicely will get you thru, i just found the leg gusset ones were my first pref, when everything was dry.
nappy + cover = two lines of defense
IMO, nappy + leg gusset cover = even more protection from leaks.
i have a bias - my nb pooed VERY OFTEN and VERY FORCEFULLY, so without the leg gusset covers, i would have been scrubbing sofas, scrubbing carpet, washing carseats daily, changing her clothes EVERY nappy change, changing my OWN clothes very frequently too. (How do i know this? cos i had one week of NOT having the right covers, THEN i got the right covers and NO MORE LEAKS!!!).
i was doing 20 changes per day at nb stage (she woke every two hours for a feed, needed changing before and after her feeds). So it was freq pooping and very explosive. So as far as i can tell, it's a lottery, what kind of pooper you have! you might have a bub who poops once every week! and therefore, not need the amount of covers we did.
here are some brands of covers with leg gussets:
bambino mio
imse vimse
bummibrites
thirsties
motherease rikki
there are a few more, but i can't remember right now.
Happy Birthday Cheeky Monkey!
welcome Ella, that was lovely of SHelley to do that for you. bless her cotton socks
Awww  Shanks
Yes bless her cotton socks indeed.
I even put up a post the other day asking if anyone wanted to get rid of there old MCN's as we have had a total major catastrophe with our car and all my money for MCN's got taken (sobs) and there have been women answer straight away.
I just keep getting suprised at how very lovely the people here are, I don't mean to carry on, but when you have had no friends and a baby for nine months and been stuck inside all the time it makes you truly appreciate the kindness people show here.
Thank you BB for helping me find lovely girlfriends and baby friends, and thank you anyone who has taken the time to read or reply to anything I've written, makes me feel very loved!
oh Ella - I think at some time we have all felt lost and alone and find BB - and then alot of us just try to pay it forward to others who come along
No real nappy news - I got some fluffy mail yesterday - just 2 x D'Lish seconds in Turquiose and Purple - still nice to pat. :)
SamiH- Yep that's the plan. The lovely ladies that have donated some nappies to me have been so great and I will be passing on anything I receive as soon as we can afford to buy some gorgeous Blueberry's!!!
I can't wait for my first ever fluffy mail to arrive!!!!
WOOB: stinky stupid sposie!!!!
It is nice when bb girls help out even if it is just replying to a post when things are down.
Well dh has come to terms with the cloth nappies now, I went out for dinner with dd#2, as dd#1 is at camp and dd#1 wanted some mum time, well bub filled her nappy for dad, he dealt with that rinsed it to and put her night nappy on, her bottom was red and he even put a liner in as he but sudocream on it (yet to get other cream), so proud of him.
We have not used a sposie in over 2 weeks yeah.
WORB pink ib dlish
No offence taken! I only said it to make sure you guys knew what I was talking about. The only covers I have seen are plastic PVC ones that were called "pilchers" and well... I don't really like the idea of wrapping my baby up in drain pipe.
Thanks for all the advice girls!! I'll go do some sticky beaking now and leave you all in peace hehe
morning girls :)
not been posting much here of late...BUT i have been reading
I am awaiting fluffy mail..... can't wait...
3 Fluffybubs
2 custom embroidereds FB's
1 tester FB (peggy is making new FB's with bamboo velour inners)
1 of the customs is for Jacks Birthday :)
JACK IN THE BOX embroidered minkee OSFM :)
can't wait!!!!!!
Other than that i am going to do a BIG cull of nappies soon as there are afew that are not being used and they are just sitting there
Anyone give me a rough price that BBB fitteds are going for or what to expect to sell them for??
teagz- there are several online fabric stores which sell mcn materials. if you're keen on making your own, there's co-op groups which you can be part of. Co-op is simply discount prices for group buys. for covers i like the imse vimse organic. DS still fits in the Small.
I'm having one of those days where I'm constantly changing nappies. Monsta is on yet another course of antibiotics and it's making him poo like there's no tomorrow...Instead of soft formed ones, its back to watery ones *sigh* It's pretty much every hour and if I dont change him straight away he'll be screaming. Even if i change him straigh away his bum is still going red...Arrgh poor baby...
:hello: to everyone
Question.
Would a BBH wool and PUL cover, a MAZ, a Rikki and a Pookey Pockets covers all in small, fit over a flat nappy?
Ta xxx
probably, if said flat nappy is flannelette or similar, or depending on the fold it might even go over a terry flat.
I have made another convert today! Weeeeeeeee..... :)
ROLF, Thanks Shelly
TeruTeru, I actually stumbled across one of those sites today and went "oooh *insert noise of brain cogs mulling over more possiblities here*" And then promptly left. I can't sew to save my life, and I don't think my brain can take in much more info today ><;
Just a quick pop in (after posting on Facebook) to wish CM a happy wedding day for tomorrow!!!!!!!!! Tho I doubt you'll be in here chook!!! I hope it goes beautifully!!! I'm sure it will!!
Hi All,
So DH is totally on board with the cloth nappies (he really is the BEST) but he still cracks me up!
I have four Bummis Super Brites covers in size small and they are a tad big on DS but they work really well with the cotton prefolds we are using in the newborn, scrawny bum, chicken leg stage.
But they aren't fool proof and Thursday we had a big blow-out poo that required a complete clothing change as well as nappy change.
This prompted DH to ask why I spent heaps of money on all these whizz bang nappy covers if we are still having leaks now and again!
I just laughed and told him that NOTHING is 100% foolproof!
Not much else to report! We have Jeremy's dedication service at church on Sunday and he will be wearing all white so I hope he doesn't have a blow out poo at church and ruin his outfit. The only white nappy covers I have with leg gussets are a couple of pro-wraps so they had better do the job!!
We have had some unsettled nights the past few nights which has me wondering if I should keep a food journal to see if anything I'm eating is affecting him (I have been craving chocolate like MAD since giving birth) but tonight seems MUCH better so far. I wore Jeremy in the Hug-a-Bub from 10am until 5pm (except for feeds and nappy changes) and he was asleep by 8pm and in his cradle by 8:45pm (we both fell asleep in the rocking chair) and it is 10:15pm and he is still asleep!
WOHB: prefold with pro-wrap cover
