Dollyroux so you got them all I resisted but they are very nice! After chatting to others at an NC meetup about the dampness thing it's probably got a bit to do with the cotton outer and they would work better up north in the warmer climate where evaporation would happen easier (though Arimeh has probably just blew that theory to bits ). I never really had an issue with it though because I prefer breathability and like fleece and wool for that reason over PUL iykwim.

lollybaby I only ever do one prewash! But I'm a little careful about how long to leave the new nappy on for a little while. As long as it's not on too long or for a nap then it should be fine

Yah, the 3 ams kill me, been spoiled with bubs who has slept through since 9 weeks or so (but never past 5am ) Every now and then he deviates from his system and really stuffs with mine, fortunatly he makes up for it by being a stellar day sleeper. This morning I just got up and fed him then started work (while it was peaceful) bit tired now tho...)

Nappy news, none really,am waiting for adam to get back with our tempermental NEW, EXPENSIVE pump, grrrrr, washing is backing up, have had shiat water pressure for days and the washing machine has been taking ages to fill. So he has taken it in today and hopefully they can fix it on the spot or give us a lender till it gets sorted.

WOLB, nada and he just peed everywhere, soon to be BBB, no cover.....

I'm so pleased someone mentioned mini lalas - I was going to pop in yesterday to ask about them - theyre soooo pretty! I'm on a buying ban though

I was feeling all domestic the other day and bought some fleece to make some liners - hope they work ok lol

We're going to melb in a few weeks for MIL's 50th and we'll have to use sposies as I wont be able to wash its funny how fast you gain a dislike for them!

Did anyone win anything in the nappy hunt? Not me, I wasnt a very good hunter lol

WOLB A bamboo Monkey Doodlez, and I gotta say, i rate this nappy right up there. Will be a definate contender as a daycare nappy.

Did you know that if you listen to triple j via austar (we are in tv and radio blackspot-base of Mt tamborine) then now instead of triple j floating around on the tv screen, the name of the song and artist that is currently playing floats around. Pretty handy really....

E has been sleeping really well at night, last night she slept 8 hours!! (i'm not complaining) Problem is her nappy, her clothes and her sheet are soaked in the morning! I've been using prefolds and covers at night because they are more absorbant than ittis but can anyone reccommend a good night nappy I can get that will fit for awhile? Or is there anything I can get to boost my prefolds/covers? I thought about using 2 prefolds in a cover but don't know how to best lay them out for that.

i would expect maximum two hours from a bamboo prefold and cover, from a baby that young.

At that age, i used, as her "night nappy", pocket nappies made with a malden mills windpro outer, so i could insert one or two bamboo trifolds/prefolds into the pocket opening. much easier.

Not many brands still around, making MM fleece pockets, but i know of Drybees fleece pockets (that use MM windpro) at craftncloth website, maybe get one in a small to try out, see if it suits your nb DD.

also bits for bots make fleece pockets (using MM fleece windpro), you could contact that site and ask them to make you one in small?

Gadimals pockets come in a fluffy MM fleece windpro too, and in a small. the only place i see them now is Nature's Cradle, not clear on website what stock they have, probably easier to ring their toll free number and ask.

so that's some POCKET options (only one thing to put on her).

if you want to use a FITTED night nappy, here are some ideas:

- wildchild make a OSFA fitted night nappy
- mandymac made a OSFA fitted "purple" night nappy, fits from 5kg - 25kg. So much of the boosting, you wouldn't put inside for a nb.

and for a night COVER
- bear bottoms mm fleece windpro cover (pullup style, dead easy)
- staccinator deluxe covers
- sugarpeas covers

to choose the size of your COVER, first buy the night nappy. With night nappy ON your bub, get a tape measure and measure her RISE (over the night nappy).

to measure rise: start at her navel
take tape down under her legs and up her back
stop the measurement at the small of her back
this is her NIGHT NAPPY RISE

so when you go to select the SIZE of the night nappy cover, tell the seller your DD's NIGHT NAPPY RISE, so they can advise you which cover size to buy.

e.g over a SIZED nappy, you might need a nb/sm size
over a OSFA nappy, you might need a bigger size, to accomodate a bulkier nappy.

night nappies ARE bulky fullstop, so you might buy a size DIFFERENT to the size you buy for her, for her DAY mcns.

bubs are different. some don't need a dedicated night nappy for ages, some need them just about straight away. a good supply of bamboo trifolds will never go astray. night nappying is all about customising the absorbency that YOUR child needs. (that's why i found the pockets so easy).

i was trying to think of a AIO night nappy, that comes in small.
Kester Kovers no longer make smalls. pity. but if you see one 2nd hand, grab it.
i did try a small Honeyboy AIO when my baby was 5kg, and that worked really well (has windpro fleece outer).
something that wasn't around when we needed it, but the small size Fluffybubs "dream" ai2 night nappy, i've seen them in the larger size, that night nappy is a part pocket/part snap in style. so just use as much of the absorbency as your bub wets thru in 8 hours, add the rest as she gets older.

if your bub continues to sleep 8 hours overnight, i would check her in the middle, until you are sure she DOESN"T poo overnight. cos if she did, and sat in it for hours, the combo of urine and poo causes nappy rash. Some people (i was one of them) are lucky enough to have a baby that will tolerate a "dream change", other bubs wake and it doesn't work for them. Just something to try.

(avoidable nappy rash is something i'm very passionate about).

hope some of that rambling might help, brings back memories of when i had a nb.

oh, i just re-read your post.
especially for night nappying - Aeration really helps keep baby and the bedding keep dry.

try things like:
cotton bed linen (i put a sheepskin rug under her sheets too, to increase breathability - natural fibres)

loose clothing, esp in the crotch region. if she is in a firm fitting onesie, and the crotch snaps press against the nappy outer or cover, you may get compression leaks. Likewise with pj pants.

for long wears (like night), wool outers and windpro outers give good waterproofing PLUS good aeration. i gave up on onesies and pj bottoms, and switched to woollen longies (instead of pj pants) for winter, and woollen shorties (instead of pj bottoms) for summer.

we had trouble with polar fleece sleeping bags, they acted like a sauna for my bub! but switching to all cotton sleeping bags worked great. so if one fabric is not working, think about the fabric, is it synthetic? is it natural? whatever is NOT working for you, try it's opposite.

LEA - i'm so sorry to hear about your DS's bowel problems. Sounds pretty hard for him and you to live with.

BRIGSY - i'm so sad, when i'm depressed, i look at MCN (which i'd love to buy) and then realise, i have no baby to buy it for, no excuse to buy it. i continually plan what i would buy, stashbuilding, if i were pregnant tomorrow.

Gigi - She slept 7 1/2 hours again last night and didn't even wet through her cover so It's not every night that she's wetting through. I've heard some people use BBH magicalls as night nappies because they have a pocket you can stuff, has anyone had success with this?

I'm still new to the cloth nappying thing and all the different styles and brands do my head in! Once I fgure out what works best at night, do you think 3 or 4 night nappies will be enough? I'm generally doing washing every 2 days anyway.

I have 4 new nappies coming this week, 3 of which I haven't tried before! I have a blue spot Itti D'lish, a Baby Chilli, a Blueberry Minky and a Minilala. How sad is it that I get excited about nappies? lol. A couple of these (I can't even remember which) are one sized which I haven't tried before, but if I can get one sized that are still cute and trim i'll invest in a few, a bit cheaper long term. The next I want to try is a Cushie Tushie

What are some stunning nappies I can look at for summer? It gets so hot here i'll prob have her in nappies and a singlet through the day so want some gorgeous ones to show off, any suggestions?

janine - i only use BBH minky magic alls with an extra night booster over night on DD , i have all 13 coulors (plus doubles on a few ) and they make great bay and night nappies !!! its them and ittis is all i use , with a couple of special nappies in the mix , like Genesa forge , if you want special nappies shes a good start !!!!
