oooh custome WW! awesome! they are gorgeous show off nappies - great fit on DD (she wears both her smalls and meds atm cos i don't want to retire the smalls while they still fit lol)
BG I'm so excited. It was pure chance that i was checking emails when she'd just sent through notice that some custom spots were going up. TBH we're stetched for $ right now, but I really need more to make my stash complete and go full time, and I thought, its all meant to be so I MUST buy them! That's my logic & I'm sticking to it anyhoo.
Good to hear they're a nice fit for E. The crotch width is always our problem for DS with MCNs and I know they're quite narrow so I'm really happy.
NOw I just need to decide what I want. OOOOHHH this is going to be hard. I've got some pretty specific things that I'd love embroidered, but I'll have to talk to her about what flexibility she has with designs.

Ladies - I need your help... I got lazy and used the disposables full time rather than alternating with the cloth as I had been and now when I put cloth on DD she screams blue murder... I thought DP was joking that it was the cloth as it had been hot and then other days I was sick - there was always something... until there were days that really there hasn't been anything except the cloth and she is so in distress and usually stops when I take the nappy off.
I have tried different liners, different nappies (itti bitti d'lish, green kids, various material prefolds with covers etc etc) sometimes she will have the nappy on for only 30secs or so and then the screaming and then other times it will be on for about 5-10mins and then she cries/screams... usually at this time though she is wet/dirty
So far as I said I have tried different nappies and liners but if that doesn't work I just pop her back into a sposie and she is fine and placid. I have been good at not getting too stressed about it cause I think DD would pick up on my stress but sometimes I have just cried... cried because she is so upset, at the $$ I have spent on nappies, covers etc etc that she won't even wear... at the amount of washing because on some days she will have the nappy on for 5mins max and it is wet/dirty and requiring a change and in 1 hour I went through 20... yes 20 nappy combos...
Is there something I am missing????? I am tearing my hair out
tk - what are the inners like of the MCN that you are using? are they fleece and or suede cloth?
might need some organic bamboo velour....
way to go lollybaby..I got the same email and managed to grab a couple of those slots so have 6 nappies to custom design...BG was raving about how good their litlle ones are for babies so I thought I should grab them while I could as it is sooo hard to get the newborn sized ones at these stocking for any of the WAHMs....they just dont do enough of them...lol.....
Kitten - how do I tell??? Sorry I am fairly inexperienced in identifying the materials in the nappies - the liners I have used are microfleece, bamboo things (yep technical term!), um not sure what the others are I am currently @ my sisters in Cowra and the nappies are in Sydney

tk - which brands are they? I found laa could only do full velour linings at that early age, slowly she has grown out of it but i still prefer the natural inners!

if you want natural fabric next to her skin, order the cotton velour inner.
Nappy rash can be caused by so many things, hard to isolate EXACTLY what is setting your child off.:
in general
- use ONLY WATER to clean her bottom
- use ONLY WATER to clean her in the bath
- wash the nappies in hot water and very little MILD MILD washing detergent
- while nappy rash is at it's worst, avoid synthetic fabrics e.g PUL. The most breathable mcn option possible is natural fibres (inside and out) nappy, with wool cover. i had to do this, to get my DD over her skin reaction to synthetic inners.
- leghole irritation to me, screams "FOE" reaction.
having a child with nappy rash bad, made me research fabrics heaps, educate myself so i could make more suitable buying choices in the future for my child's nappies.
have you ever handwashed and lanolised a woolly soaker/shorties/longies before? it sounds daunting, but is not as hard as it sounds. Wool was the best cure for my DD, it breathes so well, and nappy rash thrives in dark, moist environments, so if you can keep your dd's bottom as well ventilated as possible, that goes a long way to helping.
i've put down general stuff, as i don't know your individual situation (except that i read you use a PUL cover with FOE for overnight). i did that when my bub woke every two hours, but not for longer sleeps. and not for a heavy wetter.
Do you sew? i sewed up double layer cotton velour liners for all my dd's nappies, it kept the inners of pale nappies looking good, and it allowed my DD to wear synthetic inner nappies ocassinally, so the natural liners were great for us. I made her first ones out of cut up old flanny sheets. Bamboo velour ones would be nice. I found single layer liners just annoyed me, double layer was much better (sat nicely).
you can get raw silk liners for NR too, but that involves handwashing them, i found out i wasn't THAT dedicated to teh cause LOL.
so i've cast a wide net, i hope SOMETHING in my ramble might help you!
anything i've touched on, that you would like to know more about, just yell out.

if money is tight, i suggest you cut up old flannelette sheets, shirts and make up double layered liners to lay inside her nappies.
Remember to change baby more often, if using NATURAL liners.
if handwashing is unlikely (perfectly understandable if you are about to have newborn twins!), i suggest teh malden mills windpro pullup cover and covers. (sugar peas adn bear bottoms, few other brands like Staccinator deluxe adn Swaddlebees fleece. But bear bottoms is PULLUP and ZERO elastic.
can you knit?
there are free online patterns for knitting handknit woollen soakers at nappycino (under the DIY KNITTING section). Of course you still need to buy the wool (you need merino 8ply minimum, no acryllic).
i can't knit, but can sew with a machine a bit.
there are free online patterns to make BUMJUMPERS.
you get an old merino wool jumper/blanket whatever adn cut it up, sew up a cover shaped woollen soaker.
there is a wool MACHINE WASHABLE pocket nappy called Ecobubs.
i remember coming across a handknit woollie maker, who lives in FNQ and thinking "why would someone in high humidity area, put wool on their baby?" - but the longer i used MCN< i realised, wool was the most breathable thing, so it actually made perfect sense. The soaker is waterproof, once you ahve lanolised it. (you handwash and lanolise once a month, unless there is a poosplosion on the cover). machine washing, you do after every wear.
but i didn't use wool in the "runny poop" stage (e.g newborns). my dd had her synthetic reaction at 14 months old.

Maz - have tried the throw away liners - they work kind of... on average she will keep a nappy on for 15mins before chucking a tanty/screaming blue murder. She has an outy but isn't red and doesn't look irritated - I had thought maybe I was doing the nappy up to tight so loosened them but it doesn't make a difference so that is what makes me think it may be the materials or the feelings of wetness.
I know this sounds silly but how much can a baby pee & poo because in the day I went through a bizillion nappies each one had a decent pee and about every second or third had a poo - not a huge one but a poo all the same. It is like the material just makes her go.
don't be expecting a lot extra for having three kidlets hun - unless you have three or more in one birth, all you get is the same FTB as any other three kidlet family - which is all dependent on income. your ftba will go up, but ftbb won't change at all...
well, itti's are good, but they didn't quite contain nine days worth of trauma last night! oops! poor DD hadn't dirtied for so long, so mummy gave her a big tummy rub (again) and lots of cycling with her little legs, she had a sleep, and then watched us eat. after dinner, daddy got up to take plates out, and she let rip (didn't sound like anything more than wind). next thing she was hollering for HIM - daddeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee daddeeeeeeeeeeeeee, he called back that he'd be back in a sec cos he was busy. i asked if she wanted mummy. nope. daddeeeeeeeeeeeee, daddeeeeeeeeeeee. so he gave up what he was doing, came back to pick her up - and got covered! bwahahahah! i ended up having to change the nappy (he had too much on him to be any help lol) - then he went and washed the nappy, hand washed the clothes that had gotten stuff on them... so sweet!

TK, I second Bimboo's suggestion of elimation communication. It sounds a bit complicated trying to watch them for cues to know when they're about to go, but I've had great success just sitting her on the potty every 10-20 mins and making a 'psss' sound. ATM it's so hot she is only wearing nappies to feed and nap. If you are changing nappies every 10min anyway a potty is way easier!
i used EC tips on the site "tribal baby" to help toilet train bilby (at 27 months old). that site is so helpful in all sorts of scenarios. i ignored it for ages, because i wasn't into ec-ing bilby from arrival. I tried part time EC and that didn't work (when she was walking), then i read the site again when it was tt-ing time, and all of a sudden, we got success.
TK - greenkids have an inner layer of suedecloth, some kids react to that, beign against their skin.
could you EC her just at home, and have MCN on her for going out and naps?
i realise the flannelette liners get wet very quickly, any liner or inner made from natural fibres does, that's just the opportunity cost you pay, if you have a child with sensitive skin (more freq changes).
i've never mcn-d a child in the tropics, so i don't know the tricks to help with humidity.
it can be very stressful to have a child with a bad nappy rash outbreak, i remember feeling very distraught, when bilby had her big reaction at 14 months TK, so you have my sympathies, at the time, i thought it was The End Of MCN for us. but we got thru it, thanks to heaps of online suggestions.
are you isolating out any possible triggers?
e.g "resting" the FOE covers and aios?
resting the sudecloth inners?
to see if that helps any?
VERY occassionally, i hear of a baby being reactive to something natural against their skin, e.g hemp or bamboo. it seems to be WAY more common for a child to react against synthetic fabrics against their skin.

need some help regarding online ettiquette at B4B - is that the acronym I am suppose to be using??? Anyway I know a lot of you have purchased from there before but I have never used the site before and not sure what the rules/ettiquette is.
SOmeone has asked how much I want for a few of the nappies I am selling via auction. The nappies are on auction for a week and have 6 days to go. She says she won't be here when the auction finishes so I'm assuming that she means she wants to buy them before the auction finishes??? Is this allowed/polite??? I know on ebay it's a nono but I didn't know if it was different?
I would really prefer to just let them go on auction as I don't know how much to ask for them - thus the whole auction idea appealed to me but I don't want to say no to possibly the only buyer I might get - soooo what's the general ettiquette on this site???
Also why I'm talking about it - I have striped washed all the nappies, line dried in the sun they have no stains or anything but is there anything else I should do to make sure the person receiving them is happy??? I was thinking of putting a little scented paper disc in the bag just so they smell nice and sweet when the package is openned?

Nope, nothing else, just package them up in prepaid bags or if you can be bothered wrapping them yourself, you will bring your post price down to $4.35 for anything under 500gms. Most poeple just use the prepaid satchels. If you can, get you PO to put the post code on the reciept for you so have have proof of postage (at least as much as you can have without registering)
Re, selling before the end of the auction, I am sorry, I have no Idea, but if you wanted to PM me, I can prolly give you a market value on them.
When people do this to me on ebay, I just say thankyou very much, but I will take my chances at auction. :)
Ps I think the "I will be away" story may be a fabrication, I get that one ALL THE TIME on ebay. Methinks people who shop on ebay have way more doh than me, cause they sure do take plenty of holidays.........

I did end up writing back and explained that even if I wanted to I don't think I can end the auction now that it has been bid on and that I wasn't very familiar with how the whole thing worked so would prefer to just leave it. Hopefully I don't annoy anyone :-) I will remember the receipt idea! Good thinking

Points to DP for dealing with a major poosplosion yesterday when I was at work. DS covered his play mat LOL! He just took DS (and everything else near him) outside to give him a quick wash. Then hosed everything down. I think its scarred him for life. What a champ.

I know this questions probably been asked a gazillion times, but how much poo should I realistically be getting off the nappy before I chuck em in the wash? I get as much as I can off in the laundry sink (don't have a little squirt yet). And should I be washing at a particular temp? I think my front loader has a cotton stains cycle that goes up to 90 degrees but I don't want to ruin the nappies either?
I just want to make sure there are no nasties left behind.

Hi, I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I am not using cloth nappies, but we intend to and I've done heaps of reading and these threads are great but decided to buy some MCN's so that I could touch and feel what I was finding difficult to picture in my head. So bought some Babybeehinds - 4 different types and they all seem great! It's just one thing.........is it hard to find clothes to fit over them? We are due quite close to winter and I am wondering whether the MCN is going to fit under normal newborn clothes? I think I read that Ittibitti's have a more "disposable" style thickness - is this right? Anyway, any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

to put clothes OVER mcn, just size up.
if you have firm fitting clothing over an mcn, you'll get compression leaks.
better to have the clothing slightly loose (on the bottom half of baby).
Bonds clothing is notorious for being on the small side.
I swaddled my newborn too.
the best hint i got about buying baby clothing, is to buy stuff that is easy to undo and do up. Many nbs require VERY FREQ changes, so clothing that is a pest to undo and do up, will give you the irrits real fast.
if i had my time over again, i would get bamboo baby clothing, that fabric breathes so well, i keep seeing baby sites with bamboo baby stuff on sale, makes me wish i had a reason to buy it myself.
mcn IS bulkier than sposies, but not as bulky as terry flats.
people LOVE giving a new baby lots of 0000 clothing, so if you buy bigger stuff, you'll be fine (cos you'll still get given tiny stuff regardless).

i found the LIttle Squirt invaluable, after using it, i woudln't want to use MCN without one.
Only wash nappies at 90 degrees IF
- you're washing very basic nappies like terry flats, contours, trifolds, prefolds (all the stuff WITHOUT elastic, WITHOUT PUL etc
- your bub has gastro and you need to kill the gastro bugs
otherwise, you will ruin your nappies.
the usual mcn, wash at 60 degrees, but no hotter.
check with the brand warranty to be on the safe side, read what they recommend.
but chooky, i'd be asking Santa for a little squirt, ti makes life with a baby in nappies SO much easier.

I think your suggestion about a LS from Santa is a very good idea!
I put the nappies through a basic rinse cycle first, then put on a normal intensive wash cycle which doesn't go over 60 degrees and they came out clean as a whistle so I think I'll stick with that. We've got a fairly new front loader so it does the job nicely.
StarangelK - exactly what Gigi said. Just size up in any clothes you buy. Yes, the itti bittis are one of the trimmer MCNs but its so hard to know before bubs arrives which nappies will suit their shape, weight, and the absorbency they need. For us the ittis are a good fit, but they are just not absorbent enough for my heaving wetting boy. Its trial & error really sweets.
oh Lolly, i am so tired, i just realise, your question was HOW MUCH POO DO YOU GET OFF THE NAPPIES BY RINSING, not WHAT to rinse the nappies with?

so to get back to your original question
the little squirt gets ALL of the poo off
it stops the poo staining the nappy, cos it's not there long enough TO stain the nappy
so it's a great stain PREVENTER
the pre-wash cycle, then LONG wash cycle, then rinse - yep, worked for us too.
But until you get your LS, i would be using stand alone LINERS in every nappy, so THEY cop the poo, not the inners of the nappies. well mainly anyhoo.
(i had to live WITHOUT a LS for THREE WHOLE DAYS [out of 27 months], when we visited Melbourne for a weekend. i did it with pocket nappies, cotton velour liners AND flushable liners in them. this was at two years old. just before she tt-d actually. i coudln't believe it, she only did NEAT poos for the three days, after all my fear of "how will i cope without LS in da house - or the motel room in this case, LOL".) we did 100% mcn on the two plane rides and driving around melb. all a learning experience for me.
so, back to you, living without a LS (for now) -
if the poo is formed, or at least pastey - disposable liners help heaps.
if the poo is totally watery, it WILL go everywhere regardless.
liners are so cheap, easy to cut up newies. i'd rather wreck liners than inners of nappies if it was me (wihtout a LS).
i had a epic poo-ing child (many times per day) so i think it taught me very quickly, how to deal with poo! i'm very happy with how nice our mcn inners stayed, so it did work (for us). Yep, i must be OCD about washing nappies, something i would no doubt be cured of, if i had more than one child ha ha. APparently, you relax with your parenting when 2nd child comes along, lose all the hangups you had with your first child.

Also - does anyone else compulsively buy cute nappies when they know they're meant to buying stuff for them? DH keeps telling me off. Widdlewuns I find really hard to keep away from. We've got four already of hers and I caved and bought another one this week. They're just too cute.
I really hope I'm not the only one haha.
