Cloth Nappies #185

I was using cushie tushies for a while but DD's shape seemed to change every time she was about to spurt and i got leaks. Bonnibuns workhorse are good value for money and reliable in the no leak department. Abby Gro are my absolute FAVOURITE now though and I saw one of them on my cousin's 3 week old a while back and they look super comfy. DD prefers the Abby Gro too because they let her crawl better and aren't as stiff. They are very cute and also have a microfleece range which I alternate with the PUL backed ones to get some more air happening.

Katiejase-What liners are you using? The silk ones are supposed to be fantastic so maybe try them if your wee one gets a red bum in cloth? Haven't had to use them with DD. I think it's more a chemical in the gel filling DD reacts to in sposies, especially when teeth are about to bust through. Oh and she can outwet a sposie in 1.5 hours because she drinks so much water. Looks like her rear is encased in a giant marshmallow. :ROFL:

Mine have been in the dryer for almost 30 mins and they still feel damp

Do You throw a dry towel in with them? I've found it seems to disperse the moisture better and they don't take as long.

With the drying in the dryer thing for bamboo, I did some last week pretty much straight from the washing machine with a couple of (wet) towels and my GK inserts were still damp after 24min (4x8min) in the laundymat dryer but my ittis were dry by then. Took the towels out after 16min cause they were dry - normally don't bother with drying towels either (but they feel oh so delightful now :p) Finished drying my GKs on the airer but they were still fluffy and soft!!! YAY! nice for DS's butt again. Might try leaving a towel in longer next time I head off to the laundrymat.

Thinking about doing some pre-washes here..... may be leave it for tomorrow as DS isn't quite up to the larges yet.

Guys I just wanted to warn you, fitteds etc are fine to go in the dryer but I would proceed with extreme caution if you are putting anything with PUL in the dryer as it will kill the lifespan of the nappy!

Thanks Kitt3n. Mine's just to take the last dampness out and I do try to avoid it. My dryer is very low temp too, made sure it was.

Crazylady I might try the towel thing with the next load (if they have to go in the dryer) thanks for that tip ;)

kitt3n I only put the bamboo prefolds in the dryer, the PUL covers & PUL pockets practically come out of the washing machine dry which is at least one good thing, there shouldn't ever be any need to put the PUL into the dryer.

Update on the bamboo washing saga... I took the prefolds out of the dryer after about 40-45 mins and they were still damp :o so I took the other stuff off the clothes airer and dried that off and put the prefolds on there over night and this morning they were dry.

Those are some super absorbant prefolds Cherished! They do smell much better after air drying.

I have a side snapping question. Last night I put a Cute Tushie bamboo delights on Mr I and couldn't snap as tight around the second leg as the first (last snap on one side, second last on the other). Of course he poo'd & it came out that side & all over the wool soaker (which I didn't realise until I'd got my sheets & blanket with it). What do you do when you're between snaps? Do I just have to wait till he chubbs up a bit more?

I'm so glad I'm using cloth 'cause he is a 4 or 5 times a day pooer. I'd cost a fortune in sposies!

i have no idea snowy as we have yet to encounter a problem coz DS doesnt have poo that comes out lol if he is in between snaps u might just have to wait such a shme though i have nappies we cant use yet coz their too big i feel like its such a waste

im so excited my night nappies are supposed to be here today and i won something in the bonnibuns auction for nicola its small for the new baby but i cant see it lasting past 3 months coz thats when jamie was 6kg lol which i scored for $61 which is awesome coz if i bought that stuff separate it would have been around $80

snowy - I found that problem with most commercially available nappies - wahm made nappies tend to have more snaps, closer together, so you get a much better fit. Too many nappies have too much space between snaps, it's very annoying!

Maz - 9 degrees here at the moment too - was 5 when we woke up this morning - little bit chilly!!!

Snowy - we get it here too - out the side of one leg - blerghhh its gross... LOL... happens in our BBH's as well though, so not a side snapping issue for us. I think its a poo issue.. LOL

Totally not nappy related, but DS is doing well for daytime potty training, but still won't stand up against the big toilet to do his wee - or sit on there for poos. He will sit on a big toilet if we go out (but I have to hang on to him cos he's scared of falling in) - should I be pressing him to use the big toilet? Or just leave him as is?

Arimeh, My younger sister was the same. She was PETRIFIED she'd fall in but was okay while out. She eventually got there by herself.

We get leakage on one leg here too regardless of what nappy we use. Charlie tends to use one leg more then the other so nappy shifts slightly as her abdoman twists and one leg is slightly thinner.

Well off to do a fluff wash, stripwashing night nappy inserts and a few others today. They don't seem to be getting SOAKED, prior to nappy leaking.

Yeah I would say about 2 dozen - maybe a few more if you are going to use them when you go out too, incase you go out a few days in a row :)

Anyone know a good place to buy a little squirt online? I've seen them ranging form $60-$90 and I can't remember the sites they were cheaper. So we had a mega poosplosion first thing this morning. It was an awful way to wake up. As I was rinsing it with the shower head attachment we've been using it just exploded..... Crap EVERYWHERE! So on the phone to DP and saying "If you wanna clean this **** up next time it's fine but we're getting a damn little squirt" He was too busy to argue!

I have 8 now from Maz and I'm waiting on some more from hippyshakes and bubblebubs after I went crazy and bought heaps of the wipes solutions and then realized I didnt have any wipes :redface:
Im getting loads of packages atm, I went bazerk and bought loads of stuff from all the diffrent nappy stores online, I have way too many now! But LOTS of different kinds. I am holding myself back now as I have filled a whole bookshelf with nappies. Maz's being the most of one kind. I think I have about 8 of her nappies all up. And then probably about 35 covers in all different sizes, 32 AiO OSFM, and about 15 AIO in differnt sizes. Oh and 30 nb-15kg fitteds and 12, 15-toddler fitteds. too many. yes. I am finally admiting it.

Fluffy mail! Got my fuzzy iishfly's in the post today. DP said they look like Koosh balls and DD loved them so much she tried to put them in her toy box :ROFL: Can't wait for prewashes to be over and check them out. The fit is PERFECT too. no wing droop at all!

BBH nights a sucess woo hoo 2 pre washes and the outer shell was dry on the inside :) im so happy i might have to get a nother one for winter but i know if i have an issue they can go in the dryer thats wat i love about night fitteds and i can get my WC night fixed and get a new insert coz mine is desintegrating none of my other nappies have done it maybe coz it was the one i use the first night when i wash every 2 days or it could be the person i bought it off who knows we now dont have the lid on our bucket im going to use a mini wheelie bin when i have the 2 in nappies and each nappy load will be a whole load where as now its only not even half a load lol
im a bit scared of 2 in nappies

Poopie - iish fly's are ok - I don't personaly like the booster system in them so I don't have any in my stash anymore. Plus they are front snappers, and we only really do side snappers here.

Not that great regarding booster system. DD can outwet them in 1 hour ish with 10 prewashes. I just chuck on around the house mainly.

We had about 7 iishfly for a while - none of them were sewn the same way.

After I discovered other booster systems that one annoyed me so we moved most of them on (I kept one small cos it was just too cute and a custom, it has Laa's D.O.B on it).

Crazy - pm me with your addy, I have some iishfly fizall boosters that are more like a trifold but long and folded over.... probably making no sense but they are yours if you want them, they are thirstier (might need some sun though!)

Anyone used GF smalls on a newborn?

ooooo Kitt3n, that'd be wicked. the contoured ones seem to be too small for miss piddles' endless urine supply. Did you want me to pay postage? I think I know what you mean by the fold up thingo. Would they suit the fuzzy petite nappies as you said they're long? All the Cushie Tushies that busted on me have a second life from the boosters being tucked into nappies as added soak power now. Oh and I have a nice spot for the sunning :P Have a clothes airer set aside just for nappy inserts now. They get plenty of sun but no rain if I happen to miss a freak shower.

How do you know if your child needs to go up a size? Using IB's here at home - currently med. DS is borderline on going up in disposables for CC from crawler to toddler.

WOCB: Nudie, Daddy's bathing her so mummy can sit down with her sprained ankle for 5 minutes. DD hid my flat shoes and I wore wedges on our arvo walk yesterday.

Okay - so don't need to go up yet - no bum crack showing, although we do get seepage - sometimes a lot :p DH had to clean up DS and his sleeping bag yesterday as the poop had leaked all inside the sleeping bag while DS was playing in his playpen - DS should have been going to sleep soon apparently - DH was glad he was still in his sleeping bag as it was everywhere! Glad I was at school at didn't need to clean it:D

hmmmm, a few on here know how to deal with issues on leg seepage. I found some nappies suit DD better then others as she has mega chubby thighs and a really scrawny bum. only certain ones fit her properly without either slacking at the top or being seemingly tight around her legs. I can only use BBH at certain stages of her growth because she seems to change shape just prior to a growth spurt and bonnibuns at another stage because she slims down other areas and others get wing droop. The Abby Gro seem to be good on her no matter what though.

OOOOOOOO, Heard today my order of Abby Gro is done so expecting fluff soon too :D
